Live abroad, very hot, still in shorts and flip flops.
Visiting England in a week. Dm tells me we can all wear shorts as still warm, but pack jumpers and hooded raincoats too

I'm so confused

I’d pack linen trousers if you have them. It’s not cold enough for jeans at 18-19 degrees. Also I’d be thinking layers.

SW here and I'm finding jeans a bit sweaty. Light trousers are good and a cardigan as pps have said though I usually end up taking it off. Anorak in bag always if out walking all day😄

She’s wrong.

Well this depends on where you are in England! Its been 25 degrees in East Anglia this past week - very definitely summer clothes here.

sashh · 28/09/2026 10:48

You will probably find it colder than the locals.

Layers are always good and don't need to be bulky e.g. a pair of tights to put on under jeans if it is chilly or leggings.

You can bet if you pack shorts it will rain all week, if you don't the weather will be fabulous.

Layers - this is always the answer 😀

It's pretty cold, I'm in the south and it's thirteen at night, I have washed my woolen jumper to wear in the evening and morning.

I'd suggest jeans, ankle boots, light layers (cardigan/jumper/fleece etc), and a waterproof jacket. You definitely won't need shorts - I'm not wearing shorts in the current weather and I'm used to the cold here!

I'n in the South an i'm still in shorts and a tshirt when i'm not riding or at work.... ankle boots and jeans are depth of winter wear!

you can absolutely still wear shorts in SE England - its going to be 26 tomorrow here in London and im currently sat in my garden in shorts and a tshirt. its very mild still but evenings are chilly

Katemax82 · 28/09/2026 13:04

I'm wearing a dress made of thick fabric I wouldn't have dreamed of wearing a few weeks ago

Yes but London is always the hottest part of the SE, I'm in the SE and it's 19, it is certainly autumn here and I'm wearing jeans.. depends where ok England the OP is going and whether you feel the cold, 19 down to 13 here and cold enough for a jumper.

We’re going in a couple of weeks. I probably won’t be taking shorts but light trousers, light walking boots and trainers (possibly walking sandals), strappy tops under t-shirts with a hoody and a rain jacket, and a casual dress and cardigan with thick tights and shawl and a crossbody bag for the evenings. Take a light smartish rucksack so you can take layers off and put them on when you’re out during the day. Look at shops like Fat Face and Seasalt for ideas. In Bristol and it’s mid-20s here atm.

redjaffacake · 28/09/2026 15:39

It’s really warm and I’m in the north. But the mornings are noticibly colder and evenings are chilly. So it’s not baking hot all day but shirts would not be out of the question at lunch time. I’d take jeans, joggers, shorts, t shirts and jumpers.
