Or is it too early?

It does make me laugh how everyone has handmade decorations that are years old, someone is buying the tat that is in the shops.

Yeah, the people that can't be wanked with the nasty people threads like this attract!

@Hessuchaseeyounextthursday

I put all my autumn bits out & gradually add bits I gather from nature on my walks.

other than the leaves and things I gather, I have had everything probably longer than most of you have been alive! Some of them I bought, some of them I was given and some of them I made.

I am now unable to crochet or sew, so if I see something I like, I might buy it, I might buy another autumn colored duvet cover as well.

Not giving a single crap what any of the misery guts say. My home my choice, my business.!

@Hessuchaseeyounextthursday do what you want when you want in your own home don't worry about whether it's the right thing to do with too early to do it you're the one that lives there!! 🍁 🍂

EDIT: oh and ignore my username I name changed a few weeks ago! Really need to change it again now!!!

I picked up some conkers on a walk the other day and have stuck them in a bowl in the kitchen. Does that count?

It is a start and a good one at that!!

I love all the 'but what is autumn decorating?' comments that inevitably appear on these threads!

I'm a sucker for an autumn candle and a bowl of conkers, I might even make a wreath for the door as I've got lots of berries and dried bits in my garden that I think would look nice. It doesn't feel like time to light the fire or get the throws out as it's still quite warm here but anything that makes the dark nights a bit cheerier is OK by me. I'm not a fan of plastic pumpkins and all that but I can see why other people might buy them.

Autumnal wreath on the front door. Pumpkin scented jar candle out but won’t be lit just yet. Changed my plug-in to a pumpkin spice one, yes a plug-in. House smells lovely.

No, but I have moved out of my “summer” knickers and into my “winter” knickers, if that counts for anything.

Intrigued. I they woolly?

cantsitdown · 28/09/2026 16:29

Yes, we made some decorations on the weekend. I love decorating my house for the seasons

Sartre · 28/09/2026 16:29

Read a thread on this a month ago. It never goes down well. You’ll always get the moaners who think an autumn wreath is consumerist garbage destined for landfill. Personally had the same beautiful autumn wreath for about 5 years and love seeing it on the door. I don’t have other autumn specific decor but have lots of Halloween stuff which is coming out this weekend - I can’t wait!

I used to make a wreath with fresh leaves and berries and things each year, but I'm unable to do that anymore. I would like to buy a nice one that I can use each year, but I'm not sure where to buy it from. Do you have any suggestions??

I still have a pair of knickers I bought in the late 90s and I am not dead yet. In fact, I am often quite surprised I haven't spontaneously combusted given how many things we are not meant to wear, use, and eat.

But to answer your question, OP, the only decorating that is happening in my house is the actual...decorating. Upstairs is gutted out and I am hoping to finish one room next week. Though I toyed with an idea of making a wreath, I honestly don't think I have it in me. I am still negotiating with my cat about upcoming Christmas to see if he feels like leaving the tree alone this year.

You've had knickers since when ? be careful because the knicker knockers might see that and arrest you under the rules for extended and extreme use of undies, regulations 675, sub-section 56.

I'm the same as you really ..Don't get your knickers in a twist. (Sozzles, couldn't resist)

Fiddy1964 · 28/09/2026 19:46

I've switched the log effect on, on my fake log burner. Does that count?.

DangerousThingsILove · 28/09/2026 19:51

I have put throws out, plus candles and fairy lights… and changed some ornaments around so ones in more autumn colours are out - is that autumn decorating?!

DangerousThingsILove · 28/09/2026 19:53

BirchOakHawthorn · 27/09/2026 22:57

September 1st is when I start putting my Autumn decorations up. Mine are mostly handmade by me whilst watching TV in the evening. I don't see the harm.

What kind of things do you make? Could you add some pics?

DangerousThingsILove · 28/09/2026 19:54

Whynottryagain · 27/09/2026 23:22

Why?!?!! I truly want to know the reasoning.

I have a few pairs that are decades old! They seem to be lasting forever, unlike the new ones I bought last year which fell apart and had holes in them very quickly.

Ditto socks.

So do I!

i bet it’s knicker manufacturers coming up with these ‘rules’…

RosesAndHellebores · 28/09/2026 20:10

My garden does the autumn decorating for me. Holly berries, rose hips, dark berries and yellow berries on plants I've forgotten the names of. Conkers abound and every time I see a squirrel it has a conker in its mouth. The leaves are turning, the geraniums and petunias won't bud again, the cyclamen are flowering along with the Michaelmas daisies. There are more apples than I know what to do with. We'll bring in the last of the apple wood (spitty) tomorrow.

This thread has just made me light the couple of "spicier" candles I bought a few weeks ago and fresh flowers will be autumnal.

We are lucky to have nature on our doorstep and don't need to decorate the house to appreciate it. Some mean spirited gits on this thread, but my candles look lovely!

Wiseplumnet · 28/09/2026 20:16

Parabendum · 27/09/2026 22:10

Was that based on research by the Association of Knicker Retailers?

I’ve got knickers that are older than DD.

😂

DeedlessIndeed · 28/09/2026 20:22

I bought a paper autumn garland from East End Press - lovely company in Glasgow.

Hung it on my spindles up my stairs, it makes me smile! I do have some of their garlands which I get out for Birthday parties, so I'll just store it with those.

Oh I love a bowl of conkers.

Or a bowl of different pine cones and the odd acorn/hazelnut/beechnut - always come back from a walk with something.

Would have been a great squirrel hunter/gatherer in a previous life.

Lilypad34 · 28/09/2026 20:31

I’ve had to put the big light on once, does that count?!

bannabead · 28/09/2026 20:34

I have finished, is it too much?

SharyBobbins · 28/09/2026 20:39

I'd like to see people's conker bowls! The kids have collected loads and I don't know what to do with them! Are they in nice autumnal bowls are just cereal bowls or something?!

SumptuousPecanNougat · 28/09/2026 20:51

It's late September. Of course it's fine to start decorating for autumn, if you like. I usually would, but with a new puppy I feel less interested in it this year. Furniture's in the wrong place, things have to be kept out of reach of a curious puppy, and it's just generally more work than it's worth. I may work up the enthusiasm sometime in October.

Clydebuilt · 28/09/2026 20:56

Yes, I have! Autumn/Winter are my favourite seasons
