AIBU to think violently rattling an occupied toilet door at work is rude?

I was in the toilet cubicle at work. The door was locked, so from the outside it clearly shows that it is 'engaged'. Regardless, someone outside came along looking for a free cubicle, rattled the cubicle door really violently (to the extent I was worried it would break the lock) before moving on to another one.

AIBU to think this is really rude? It is not the first time this has happened, once I was just in the cubicle about to lock the door and a male colleague burst in nearly pushing the door. These are unisex closed cubicles which is all there are; It has to be said that when we had old fashioned dedicated female toilets this rarely happened....perhaps the men are resentful about the time women take & aren't used to queuing?

You may have overreacted - it may have seemed more violent when really it was just assertive

As an aside, I bloody hate the staff toilets at work. They are now unisex, whereas they used to be one for women and one for men. I hate going in after male colleagues because they always leave the bloody seat up, and drips on the floor. Yuk. It's bad enough at home with males I'm related to, but coworkers - just no.

Happened to me a couple of time in the past in female only toilets. I shouted "Occupied! Have a bit of patience". Whoever it was went away - probably embarressed.

I can't speak for others, but I have IBS, and when younger horrible heavy periods.
Dealing with one or the other was bad enough, but together was horrific, took time, and all the while I was so embarrassed as it was a public toilet.
Anyone who wonders what women are doing in there, do you think they're having a great time?

This happened to me once in a railway station lounge, and it was really intimidating (also mixed sex toilets, with doors that opened onto the wide lounge seating area, so lots of people).

The guy just kept shaking the door, probably for about 5 seconds only, but it felt like forever. I was so worried the door lock would be rattled loose and I'd be visible to the whole lounge, including my (male) colleagues. I had intended to also change my tampon but decided I would just risk a leak on the long train journey instead .

There is an additional layer of privacy in female only cubicles in a separate room (so there are two doors between you and men when you're sitting with your pants around your knees), than unisex single occupancy rooms which men can get right to the doors of. I really, really dislike unisex toilets as I feel very vulnerable, to the point I now just don't use them.

Yeah that’s horrible. I’ve known one person to do this (on a night out when she wanted to get in the cubicle to snort coke) and she was an absolute bitch. Insane behaviour in the workplace. I would set up camp in that cubicle rather than let them have it after that aggression.

It's really not worth more than a second's irritation, just say "occupied" and forget about it. I'm sure we've all experienced it, I have more important things to daydream think about than if it's rude or not.
