Where do you think Jewish people come from?

Antisemitism is at full volume at the moment and I caveat this post with saying that I have absolutely no wish to make Jewish MNers feel uncomfortable but as an an atheist with no connection to Israel this really makes my blood boil.

I see so many SM posts about the Jews having 'colonized' Israel and Judea & Samaria, not having any claim to the land, not being indigenous and of course being 'Europeans settlers'.

They can't answer where they actually come from though so I thought anyone on here who shares their views might be able to give an answer and how they came to that conclusion.

I understand that Jews are an ethnicity with Judaism as their religion. Being Jewish is not a religion. Jews are still today spread out all over the world with the majority living in Israel and the US.

This has come into focus since the UK Government sanctions on Jewish businesses in Judea & Samaria recently with Jewish communities living there classed as 'illegal settlers'.

It's almost as if Jews and Judea have no connection at all.

So AIBU to ask where the Jews originated from if not from there?

I don't feel this belongs on the CITME board as although the war in Gaza has amplified beliefs, this not directly about that.

And ne’er the twain will meet!

I find this thread really depressing as you can see both ‘sides’ entrenched in their hatred with no interest in even beginning to understand the alternative perspective.

The discussion of Israel’s right to exist or exist as a Jewish state shouldn’t really be up for discussion. Does anyone question America’s or Australia’s right to exist? I don’t hear it much. So, I do think that is antisemitism, even if its ’accidental’.

Equally, though, the idea that the Palestinians brought it all on themselves and should just suck it up is wrong too. I hear so much that Hamas were elected and that the Palestinians support them as an excuse for killing civilians and ethnic cleansing. Firstly, they were elected 20 years ago and the average age in Gaza is 19. Secondly, they were voted in because they were good at running civil society (supported by Iranian money) and not because they wanted to destroy Israel and us Jews. The poor Palestinian civilians have been traduced by Hamas time and time again, and radicalised enough to support them.

Many Israeli senior leaders have admitted the Palestinians have a legitimate grievance including Rabin, Olmert,Peres and Sharon. And I think that they know more than most on this thread.

Both the Jewish population and the Palestinian population need to work towards a two state solution and avoid maximalist demands, which are not realistic. They need to start serving their populations rather than perpetuating a war which is not pleasant for either side.

Israel has offered a two-state solution several times since 1948, it has always been rejected by the other side. And not because they had a different proposal for a two state solution. They do not want a two state solution, full stop.

The Arabs/Palestinians have been offered a two-state solution 5 times and have turned it down each time.
Maybe someone should have a word in their ear?

I agree.
As as I have said before, they want a one-state solution and that state isn't Israel.

Whoa, that was a mass exodus! Disunited nations ...

I've only read summaries of his speech. It seems to have been something of a war cry, more geared to rally electoral support at home than to enlighten UN members.

He was right to bite back at Erdogan's vicious (and deluded) remarks, though. Apparently Turkey hopes to win leadership of the Muslim world, in opposition to Saudi Arabia. Another dangerously over-ambitious nutcase.

FYI. If you look at the ga hall during most speeches, it's half empty. The delegation that are planning a performative walk out will intentionally arrive with a massive delegation - basically anyone they can get in the room - in order to performatively walk out. The room will be practically empty when the leader of guinea bissau or Bhutan is speaking but no one needs to perform for the camera that they're leaving 😅

They were pushed out because of Zionism and formation of Israel. Read Prof Avi Shlaim's account of this/watch on YouTube. He is an Iraqi-Israeli Jew and professor of history at Oxford so quite a relevant expert and one never invited onto mainstream media for some reason. See also - prof Ilan Pappe, Prof Neve Gordon.
He also reports evidence that shows direct involvement of Zionist terrorist gangs in false flag attacks on Jewish communities in Iraq and Yemen, to terrify those Jews into fleeing their homes and going to Israel, to bulk up the numbers. Of course they were treated badly by the European/Ashkenazi Jews when they got there.

Avi Shlaim is one voice (who has built his career off of this) versus hundreds of thousands who give a different narrative and explanation.
But you cherry pick the one who says what you want ro hear.
I mean the Jews of Yemen???? How about you read exactly how they were treated over the years. Read historical accounts. What ignorance youre showing.

Indeed. Imagine where we'd be now had they accepted one of them.

Same situation different front lines, is my guess. They'd always be bickering over demarcation and property rights, firing explosives at one another and yelling that the other is the more belligerent.

Don’t have time to read through 27 pages of posts but I don’t see what’s so hard to see where Jews come from. Jews originate from Judea and after the destruction of the second temple were sent to exile. To keep it as short as possible , the Jewish diaspora were spread all over and that’s why today there are Ashkenazi , sefardi and mizrachi Jews. Iraqi/bukharian Jews can trace their lineage back to the temple times. While customs vary, it’s all the same religion and the land of Israel is central to it. It’s mentioned constantly in prayers, Jews pray towards Jerusalem , smashing a glass at a wedding is to commemorate the destruction of the temple etc. There has been continued Jewish presence in Israel for hundred of years. And just to clarify , the Palestinians today are descended from tribes, they were never a nation so to speak. Some have Jordanian or Egyptian roots.
just as an aside the idea that Jews are colonising Israel when there are mosques on the Temple Mount built above the ruins of the Jewish temples is truly absurd.

Or there could have been a Palestinian state, moving ahead. Maybe not best pals but no war like with Jordan and Egypt.

Come on, you said it was a response to Oct 7.

Israel has its Iron Dome, which seems pretty effective. I wished long ago that Palestine - or Gaza at least - could have one, too. If they won't stop having a go at each other, it'd be better to be equally well defended.

While repeating that I think Hamas is awful, it's difficult to buy the portrayal of Israel as victim. This is a very unbalanced conflict in which Palestinians are, yet again, suffering greatly.

As I also keep saying, though, I don't think it will ever stop completely.

You don't need to go as far as Iron Dome. How about building bomb shelters? They're very effective and don't cost much. Did Hamas build any bomb shelters for the civliian population int he 20 years they ruled Gaza? (answer is no) Did they have the ability and resources to do so (answer is yes, as evidenced by the many tunnels they built for the exclusive use of Hamaas)

You are correct that the pwoer is assymetric now but it wasn't previously. The Palestinian problem is and has always been a refusal to compromise and accept reality.

As Bibi said 'if there any more moral cowards in the hall, please leave now'.

They'd already left though, to rush to find a TV to watch his speech on, after their juvenile, performative walk out.

They didn't walk out on Iran, Qatar, Syria (former Al Qaeda), or Turkey who all finance and organise the terrorists Israel is having to fight against.

Particularly enjoyed him bringing a Starlink hub for the Iranian delegation if they wish to defect and him calling out the weak governments in the West.

Also Hamdani 😂

An amazing speech from an amazing leader, especially defending the brave soldiers of the IDF who have been disgustingly smeared.

'We will win, we have no other choice'.

Am Israel Chai!

The only moral coward in that room was Netanyahu.

I have no hesitation whatsoever to support Israel, to support Israel's right to exist, and I abhor anti semitism.

However, two wrongs will never make a right. No state has the right to perpetuate genocide.

A siege mentality is never going to lead anywhere but toward violence.
We will win. We have no other choice is a recipe for disaster.

Netanyahu is the epitome of moral cowardice!

Not that I think the delegations which walked out are any better, hardly warriors of justice and human rights.

Ed Miliband cosying up to the Iranian Foreign Minister is sickening although not at all surprising, surprisingly.

This country is fucked, totally.

Politics is the art of the possible.

It involves talking. It involves listening.

Hundreds of years of plantations, evictions, political and economic oppression, intense sectarian hatred, massacres, apartheid, and dogged determination to wipe each other off the face of the earth gave way to a fairly peaceful settlement in Northern Ireland, produced after several years of talking, of realism, and some significant compromises on both sides.

Politicians talking to each other and to demagogues and hard liners achieved that.
