I really liked her music and she seemed like a nice person: her Imagination Library came to my borough recently. I was very sad to hear she'd died.
But was very disappointed to read this. The statements she made about trans people deserving respect, no issue with those.
But minimising the reasonable concerns women have about being forced to let men in their toilets was wrong.
I'm not saying she should have spoken out for GC issues. It might have been best just not to comment.
Parton had connections with drag queens and I wonder if that's the lens she saw transwomen through : not an excuse but might partially explain.

It's not "writing off any disagreement as right wing." It's pointing out that right wing views are actually right wing, and thus it's strange to expect a public figure who wasn't right wing in any way, to align with the right wing on your particular pet issue.

I've already given you the actual reasons. It's very simple. The loudest anti-trans voices and sources of funding globally are the right wing, conservative politicians and religious figures whose other projects involve dismantling women's rights on all fronts.
Thus, it is not a left wing, pro-women's-rights movement. If being aligned with the right wing bothers you, perhaps you need to actually do some thinking.

I'm not right wing in any way. But I suppose you'd consider me to be GC. And that is fueled by trauma from violence inflicted on me by men and me desperately wanting to keep single sex spaces. I have no problem with how anyone wants to live their life, doesn't bother me at all. But I cannot agree with single sex spaces being compromised for any reason whatsoever.

I don’t want biological men in the ladies bathroom. At the same time I wouldn’t deny a trans woman the opportunity to have a pee.
You will always find perverse men trying to access vulnerable spaces for women.
I find it risky and uncomfortable allowing DS use the men’s bathroom, more than I fear a trans women using the ladies.
