To be disappointed Dolly Parton supported biological men using women's toilets?

I really liked her music and she seemed like a nice person: her Imagination Library came to my borough recently. I was very sad to hear she'd died.
But was very disappointed to read this. The statements she made about trans people deserving respect, no issue with those.
But minimising the reasonable concerns women have about being forced to let men in their toilets was wrong.
I'm not saying she should have spoken out for GC issues. It might have been best just not to comment.
Parton had connections with drag queens and I wonder if that's the lens she saw transwomen through : not an excuse but might partially explain.

How is it transphobic to call trans women what they are ? Sex is immutable. A man simply can’t become a woman, just as a woman can’t become a man. Putting on a dress doesn’t make you a woman.

Make it make sense. You seem to claim that it is a matter of agreement or disagreement that men change into women, if they say they are women.

I suppose we had belief/ ideological ‘disagreement’ before when Galileo defended heliocentrism; that the earth orbited the sun. But Galileo was right on that, irrespective of disagreement, because it is a fact. Forced to recant because of ideological dogma. However, that was somewhat removed from most people’s daily experience, and knowledge.

Everyone (and all the dogs in the street) know that men aren’t women, and never become women. No matter what mimicry, costume, or surgery is employed to give some smoke and mirrors, cosmetic idea that they have.

Well I think a TRA is someone who can explain what rights trans people are fighting for that they do not possess but everyone else has. I mean TIM have all the same rights as a non TI male and a TIF has all the same rights as a non TI female so what exactly are they upset about. Sex and gender are different as we have been told, so they should have no problem using the mixed gender single sex facilities of their sex should they? So far I’ve not met one TRA, just a lot of misogynistic woman hating people.

Whilst true that not all males are paedophiles and sex offenders, the vast majority of paedophiles and sex offenders are male. Irrespective of how these male paedophiles, and male sex offenders say they ‘identify’.

Again, true that male paedophiles and male sex offenders are human, just like their victims are human. I don’t remember the exact statistics, but the vast majority of victims of male sex offenders are female.

Dolly Parton was an amazing woman who did a whole lot for women, girls, humanity and me.

I don't want anyone to be perfect. I still like and admire Dolly, I just disagree with one thing she said.

How is criticising one thing a 'purity spiral'? It's not. Purity spiral would be saying that this one thing made me change my views on her totally & no longer listen to her, denigrate her charity work etc. I haven't said anything like that.

Perhaps she was just concerned that North Carolina lost $400 million in investments, thanks to that Bill. It lost jobs and opportunities. Part of the Bill was allowing the state to decide the minimum wage. The problem was that without full gender reassignment, a person couldn't reapply for a birth certificate. But those that had the surgery could and there wasn't consistent record keeping to what the person's original name was, so the supposed safety aspect went out of the window. I think that she did like to keep out of politics and was caught by only half of the issue being asked. There was a lot of legislation sneaked in, under cover and a lot of the residents wasn't aware of the withdrawal of investors. It was only when they were told they couldn't host the athletics in 2022. The current, 'Women's Safety and Protection Act', is more protective.

Honestly, I loved Dolly, was fortunate to see her live lots of times and was sad when she died. But she wasn’t a family member so I have a sense of perspective about her death, I hope. Some people are talking about her like she was a deity or a religious figure which seems a bit unhealthy to me.

I’m finding it especially embarrassing the way everyone seems to want to co-opt her to their cause - I do wonder if some of them could even name more than 3 of her songs..

I liked Dolly a lot (and still do, no matter what some pps choose to think) but I do find it, frankly, unhealthy, when there's such anger and desire to shut down even mild criticism of a figure, any figure.

I'm not saying she was horrible. I'm not denigrating her achievements or generosity. I'm saying I'm disappointed she said ONE specific thing.

I wonder if part of it is that so many celebrities seem awful now, especially when we see more of them in the media than before, and they also often overstate and get into messy private life situations. Dolly didn't do any of that, so that, among other things, has created a kind of beacon effect where any criticism is treated as taboo.

She was generous and wrote great music : one of the most attractive things about her was that she had a sense of perspective and didn't make herself into a prophet-style leader as some celebrities have done.

I think Dolly was great but I'm not quite sure why there's this attitude. Maybe a parallel with David Attenborough : I've seen criticism of him treated as taboo on here though I don't think to quite the same degree.

I agree. It looks like crabs in a bucket mentality. Some women can't help themselves, they have to drag other eomen down.

However, it maybe the OP has done much better for women than Dolly did and that's why she's disappointed and critical.
