Completely unreasonable things that really piss you off when you’re driving

It can’t just be me surely! I get so angry when:

  1. I am in a rush or just want to be home after a long day and people just won’t stop needing to turn right
  2. I realise I need to turn around and all of a sudden the world and his uncle are up my arse or trying to leave every junction it would have been good to do a U-ey in.

People who don’t understand merge in turn and think everyone needs to form a queue

it’s fashionable for drivers in my area to not fully use a right turn lane and to only put their nose in so they are at a diagonal to turn right, blocking the lane that goes straight ahead

cyclists - when the council have spent millions on tarmacking and maintaining a cycle path and the cyclists cycle alongside it on the road.

horse riders - I live near an equestrian centre on a winding, narrow B-road. They regularly go out 12 plus horses making them impossible to pass safely. 4/5 yes but a row of double that and more, is crazy.

people that cannot work roundabouts and wait until there’s nothing coming at all.

ilovepixie · 11/09/2026 00:49

People stopping to let people out of side roads.

Roads are for cars. There are plenty of other places you can practice cycling as a hobby without causing a nuisance or presenting a danger to yourself and others.

Your comment about skiing makes no sense and has no bearing on anything.

No. Much as peletons of arrogant lycra lovelies irritate me, roads are for everyone. I drive on country lanes most days and encounter cyclists, horses and riders, farm machinery, massive grain lorries, dog walkers, joggers and even the occasional pony and trap.

I do my best to be considerate to all of them, though the peletons have strained my patience this summer. They can be so bloody rude - the polite ones stand out as exceptions.

overnightangel · 11/09/2026 06:48

This is the literal opposite of keeping the traffic flowing 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😂you’re stopping to introduce more traffic from elsewhere

Newstartplease24 · 11/09/2026 07:28

Men who use one finger above the steering wheel to slot you into where they think you can go, but they can’t see what you can see and it isn’t safe. Just don’t get involved.

btw: cycle lanes are often useless as they just stop or offer no way to turn right. For instance. They aren’t an equivalent set of roads that cyclists could just use. They’re individual stretches of tarmac that may or may not help you go where you’re going

These threads just highlight how many irate drivers there are on the roads

OrsolaRosso · 11/09/2026 07:40

Cyclists who think that the usual rules of the road don't apply to them and pull out in front of you.
Cyclists who think it is ok to cycle at night with no lights and dressed in dark clothing.
Drivers who say thank you to you by flashing very bright headlights in your eyes 👀 🫩

CheshireSplat · 11/09/2026 07:46

This is quite specific. It makes me so angry and I think I really need to be told for the sake of my blood pressure to chill out, so please do.

When you're joining a 2 lane dual carriageway from a slip road. You join fine and pretty much immediately need to pull into the lane to your right to overtake car in front of you. You can't pull over immediately because there is a car to your right. You indicate.

There is a car joining, just like you, immediately behind you. It doesn't have a car to its right, so it immediately moves into the right hand lane, speeds up and stops you overtaking.

This happens all the time at a junction near me and it makes me furious.

I think I need to get a grip because that isn't good for me. I think it feels really unfair. I was ahead of you and you're now, deliberately or not, blocking me in so you can get ahead of me. If I were behind, I'd let the car in front of me out.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Please help!

BCBird · 11/09/2026 07:53

People not having a clue about what to do at roundabouts. Someone shooed me on the other day. It was priority to him. If I give way to someone and they don't say thanks it gives me the rage.

Yes very annoying I agree! Although I probably also do it to people

I'm getting ragey just thinking about this, but people who leave huge unnecessary gaps between them and the car in front when there's a traffic jam, or just a wait for lights to turn green. It means the traffic is backed up even more. The spaces don't need to be big enough so two fucking cars could easily fit into them. It's completely ridiculous

Yes I know that, but simple answer is to wait yourself a few seconds more until there’s no cars in either lane so you can go straight into the right hand lane like the car behind you would have done if you’d have gone a few seconds earlier. Obviously only if your certain you have to overtake straight away, ie you’ve been waiting for a slow moving vehicle to pass.

I agree, advanced motorists are taught to stop so they can still see the road under the back wheels of the car in front which gives just enough room to pull out on full wheel lock if the car in front doesn’t move, ie stalls or breaks down etc. That’s usually something like 4/5 feet, not two sodding car lengths!

To the left, to the left
Keep your motherfucking car to the left.

Stay in the left hand lane argh 😤 😤

Not sure if it was your intention @Popstarrrrrbut I read this to the tune of Beyoncé’s Irreplaceable 😂

Username7258 · 11/09/2026 08:50

People who lurk near zebra crossings so you don't know if they'll jump out at the last minute.

It's not unreasonable at all but people who are fully on their phone whilst driving gives me the RAGE. At least pretend to concentrate on where you're shoving over a tonne of metal...

Auburngal · 11/09/2026 08:51

Where I live there some crossroads. One of roads if you want to go straight ahead, you go on the right hand lane. The left lane is for turning left only and has its on filter on the traffic lights. One day I counted 6 cars going straight on a left lane and those wanting to turn right from the opposite side had to weave through the traffic.

If there was an accident, it would have gridlocked most of the area

People stopping to let people out of side roads.

Although if people don't let me out of a side road in a 30mph zone and continue along the main road, this can (unreasonably, I admit) enrage me. I stare menacingly at the drivers for not being polite enough to stop and let me out. Obviously in those situations I also have an issue with the Highway Code. This doesn't apply when it's me on the main road not letting people in off side roads as its one rule for me and one rule for everyone else

BirdLandedonmyHead · 11/09/2026 09:26

We have a crossroads in our village. It has sign on approach saying "right turners give way to oncoming traffic"... you know, the logical and legal thing that hapens at crossroads throught the UK.

There is enough idiots that make thus sign necessary as they cannot see the cars emerging from the road directly ahead of them on their own green light.

My pet hates - when turning right, you’re supposed to position your car so that other drivers can pass on your left. However, many drivers just stop in the middle of the lane waiting to turn thereby holding up all of the traffic behind them.
Also - other drivers don’t let you finish a three point turn, they just have to drive past you on the second point before you’ve finished the manoeuvre.
Finally, drivers who are scared to drive in bus lanes because they don’t read the signs saying when it’s not a bus lane.
I agree with a PP, you’re always supposed to help keep the traffic flowing safely.

THIS !!!! Gives me the absolute rage!

Angry people doing anything/anywhere is a bad thing. Angry pedestrians, shoppers and cyclists can also do stupid/dangerous things. Far better to help people not get angry in the first place, i.e. deal with all the irritations.
