Completely unreasonable things that really piss you off when you’re driving

It can’t just be me surely! I get so angry when:

  1. I am in a rush or just want to be home after a long day and people just won’t stop needing to turn right
  2. I realise I need to turn around and all of a sudden the world and his uncle are up my arse or trying to leave every junction it would have been good to do a U-ey in.

Drivers braking when another vehicle, on its own side of a two-lane road, comes towards them. Not single track, not narrow, not dark, not speeding. Just why?

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 09/09/2026 19:51

When there are parked cars on the other side of the road and someone on that side pulls out around them forcing me to stop when I have priority.

Yeah I actually find it really annoying if I am behind someone who keeps doing this. Fair enough if in traffic but the other day there was no one behind me and someone kept letting people out and it was really quite dangerous

Yes!!
look in your mirrors before you stop, could be gap behind you.

Cyclists

blackscreens · 09/09/2026 19:54

Random brakers - when the car in front on the motorway keeps touching their brakes (even though there’s no obvious obstruction in front of them). That causes me to brake and no doubt the person behind me too - all of that combined slows the flow of traffic right down.

People not letting others turn out of Junctions

my dad always told me to ‘keep the traffic flowing’ so if I’m driving down a road and a car is wanting to turn onto the road I’m on (if it’s safe to do so) let them go.

I think people should be predictable rather than kind, yes it’s lovely to let every Tom dick and Harry out, but it’s unpredictable, unpredictability can cause accidents imo

Cyclists

Especially when theres a cycle lane but they still drive on the road. Impossible to pass on a busy 40 mph road so long queues of traffic doing 15 mph unnecessarily.

thisfilmisboring123 · 09/09/2026 19:56

The jogger by my house who comes around a blind corner into oncoming traffic when there’s perfectly suitable pavement 😡

Badbadbunny · 09/09/2026 19:57

When you've been in a long queue of stationery or slow moving traffic for a while and prats in front keep letting traffic in out of side roads who've been waiting a fraction of the time that everyone behind them in the queue has been waiting, causing everyone else to be delayed further when the amount of cars having been let in causes everyone else to wait longer as they get through the junction/roadworks/traffic lights etc before you. If I've been stuck in a 20 minute queue, I don't want to wait even longer when people who've not waited at all on side streets get let in without any wait/delay.

Lane management drives me bonkers. I know there is a lorry visible in the far distance but you won’t be overtaking it for at least 5 minutes. Stay left until you need to overtake it.

Also driving too close. That’s whats causing the phantom stopping. Amplification breaking - the driver behind has to stop more quickly, repeated until the later drivers end up not moving .

Agree, and also people who come speeding up right up your back side and then go to over take you right at the last minute. I haven’t just suddenly appeared here in front of you, I have been here for some time, an over take shouldn’t be at the last minute (though I agree it also shouldn’t be done too far in advance lol)

Itsdarkateight · 09/09/2026 19:58

When you’re waiting at a red traffic light behind a few other cars and when the light changes to green, the cars in front take about 7 working days to actually get in gear and start to move! Whyyyyyyy!

CapeMylar · 09/09/2026 20:00

Learners using our road to do manoeuvres. I know I’m being unreasonable because obviously they need to learn, but there have been occasions when I encounter three on the trot as I’m going to work in the morning!

FWIW I don’t stop 😂 I’ve not explained myself well!

Loveofeclairs · 09/09/2026 20:04

My most unreasonable driving rage is people letting others into a queue when I’m in a rush. I know they’re doing nothing wrong, but when I’ve already waited 2–3 light cycles, it drives me insane.

Today the car in front let 3 cars out, the lights went red and I lost another 4 minutes of my life. Completely unreasonable, but still fuming 😂

It’s a good job I only let Tom out and not dick and Harry. And only do so if it’s safe!

They are on their phone

TheBers · 09/09/2026 20:09

Conversely…
Theres a big roundabout with traffic lights on my way to work. Road works further on mean traffic frequently can’t get through quick enough and block the road.
I am eternally grateful those stuck halfway round roundabout who leave a gap for traffic going across in the other direction- rather than going bumper to bumper and blocking everything.

hotmumshit · 09/09/2026 20:10

I hit every red light possible today when running late for pick up

And i hit them by seconds because people were being so bloody slow about moving

Thecows · 09/09/2026 19:36

Surely everyone knows you could do that in theory but wouldn't be such an arse as to actually do it?

I do this all of the time 😳

Toastietoastie · 09/09/2026 20:10

I made it through about 3 posts and could feel my blood boiling 😂 time to leave the thread

Halloumiqueen · 09/09/2026 20:10

to hopefully ease any fury my post about letting people out of junctions has caused 😅
I do so when traffic is flowing and it can keep moving I.e plenty of distance so that no one is stopping behind me, it’s when traffic is trundling along rather than on a 40 mph road and just slamming on to let a car out.

on the contrary my driving instructor told me I should not be causing cars to break behind me unless I’m able to signal why such as turning in a road for which I’ve started indicating for before braking

and in line with the OP - it’s because I get unreasonably annoyed when I’ve been sat waiting several minutes to turn onto a road and unreasonably feel that after a few minutes of me being at that junction, the people now not letting me go are jumping in front of me!

whatdoidonowffs · 09/09/2026 20:12

Drivers who don’t know which lane to be in even when it’s written on the road for them
drivers who can’t go at a reasonable speed in a tunnel it’s a 50mph tunnel why are you doing 20 !!!!
drivers who bypass a line of traffic and just expect to force their way in at the last minute, it’s not a zip merge your lane is going straight ahead mine is turning left !!!!

I agreed with your post.

After reading some of the replies, now I know why I’m sitting there forever trying to turn out of my road on the school run.
No fucker let’s me go! Lol

HappiestSleeping · 09/09/2026 20:14

Every other road user. I'd be fine if I were the only one on the road. 🤣

I don’t think you’re unreasonable at all! Letting one car out is nice - letting several cars out is bloody annoying for people behind. Ditto people in side roads who try to tailgate as you let the car in front of them out. I don’t think so!

I was driving behind a bloke who was letting every single car emerging from a supermarket carpark out in front of him a few weeks ago. It took some time for there to be a ‘gap’ so we could get down the short road. The lights at the end had changed several times in the meantime.
