Completely unreasonable things that really piss you off when you’re driving

It can’t just be me surely! I get so angry when:

1. I am in a rush or just want to be home after a long day and people just won’t stop needing to turn right
2. I realise I need to turn around and all of a sudden the world and his uncle are up my arse or trying to leave every junction it would have been good to do a U-ey in.

Traffic lights on red at a junction when it’s super early in the morning and no one else is on the road. Surely they should have censors so that they know where there’s a car and turn green for them to avoid me just sitting at a red light for no reason.

Those are for the ghosts. Thought everyone knew that.

Hate bloody cyclists that ride abreast (sometimes in 3’s) and will not get into single file to let you past. They are entitled and think they own the bloody road!!

They shouldn’t be doing that obviously it’s very dangerous but I do hate cyclists

i don’t mind so much if it’s a teenager who obviously doesn’t have a driving licence yet, or someone in an old parka and battered trainers in the rain who clearly has no other option than to cycle but anyone with a carbon fibre bike in Lycra can fuck the fuck off and go and cycle on a track away from the road - we get it all the time on the windy road between our town and the next and it’s just extremely dangerous for them to be there and they seem to enjoy holding everyone up.

People who think they are too special to wait, so go up the wrong lane at lights and then indicate to cut into the lane with a long queue at the last minute, often doing lots of hand signals at you which involve pointing and a thumbs up.

Tailgating- tends to make me slow down rather than speed up

Some more enlightened countries turn off some traffic lights at night or they change to flashing amber all directions turning into a give way junction which prevents people having to stop for nothing.

My father-in-law is absolutely dreadful for phantom braking. Never mind if there's traffic coming the other way, even if there's a mile of dead straight, wide, dry, flat, well sighted road with no junctions or obstacles and no other traffic in sight, I can guarantee he'll brake at least three times in that mile. He basically can't keep a constant speed, his speed creeps up, he looks at the speedo, notices he's going a bit faster than he thought, brakes, repeat ad nauseum. Every time I get in a car with him I think 'right, just be chill and zen about this', but after 10 minutes I'm chewing the interior fittings with frustration.

And going slightly OT, but people who write 'break' when they mean 'brake'. It is the mark of the imbecile, so stop it.

Middle lane hoggers, who are unfit to hold a licence.
The complete lack of action against crime committed when behind the wheel, or taking months/years.

If we had adequate driving standards and enforcement, then part time signals would be worth having.

People giving way when they don’t need to.

People who flash other motorists to warn them of speed traps. When I’m in charge that will be an offence . You are aiding and abetting a “crime” in my eyes.

Roundabout edition:

1. (my most hated offenders) People who don’t indicate when they’re getting on a busy roundabout to show that they’re getting off at the first exit. The fury as I sit there shouting “I COULD HAVE GONE” as they sail down it giving no fucks while I continue to wait.
2. When you’re on one of those roundabouts with the multiple lanes that you follow round to bring you out at your exit (like the lines on an insole that you have to cut around) and someone realises they’re in the wrong lane and swaps lanes in front of you without indicating OR beeps at me when I come off to inform me that I’m in the wrong lane (when I absolutely am not and they’re wrong).
3. When it’s a really big roundabout so people think it’s actually a racetrack and they should go around it as fast as humanly possible, meaning that nobody can actually get on the fucker.

Driving too close to someone to not be able to react is also fucking dangerous.
I don't do either because I am not a twat.

People who sit in the outside lane doing 65mph when the inside lane is empty and there is nothing in front of them.

Groups of cyclists who think they own country lanes, and are actively dangerous (cornering on blind bends right over the wrong side) or rude to motorists who are being considerate (have slowed right down and pulled right over).

I'm not an arse, I've cycled 100s of miles in my life (including along the lanes where I meet the rude gits), so I do know what it's like to be a small and vulnerable road user.

Oh, and people who drive along country lanes but don't understand passing-places or can't reverse.

ETA, tailgaters. I've been rear-ended by one in the past, and I find them incredibly distracting.

Because we don’t have adequate standards of enforcement, jumping and ignoring red lights is becoming more commonplace. But having flashing ambers it turning off at night would help the law abiding drivers.

People driving too slowly on lanes and not using their rear view mirror to see a car behind them. I always let a faster car overtake. Kind me.

Undertaking on the motorway. When did this start being a thing? It's rife these days and never used to be.

Conversely people (often in jags) sitting in the fast lane doing 60 with a big queue behind.

IKR? They give me a sore arm.

Impatient drivers who hate on any road user more vulnerable than themselves

Undertaking is on the rise because of ever increasing numbers of people hogging the middle and even the third lane.

The Undertakers seem to be youths though in those sorts of fast youth cars. Not very good on makes. They weave their way through the lanes. Quite dangerous if someone is pulling in from the fast lane and didnt catch sight of some nutter screaming up the middle lane undertaking away.

I thought the police have outlawed the CLOGs now and you can get a penalty for hogging the middle lane.

Undertaking is illegal but you actually need police on the road to stop and fine them, which is a rarity, and even the very few police on the road see to turn a blind eye unless it’s a really stupidly dangerous move or they’re particularly bored.

People who are constantly lane changing and very close to the vehicles in front or behind them

Agreed. But its got a lot worse in the last few years (that I've noticed). Quite a few people on the road don't seem to understand the Highway Code.

I have noticed how prevalent undertaking on the motorway is now too, it’s dangerous. Middle lane hoggers do my head in and I can understand why people end up almost having to undertake them, but I was on the motorway the other day and I saw so many people basically just choosing to undertake when they easily could have overtaken properly. It’s like people don’t know how to drive anymore
