Completely unreasonable things that really piss you off when you’re driving

It can’t just be me surely! I get so angry when:

1. I am in a rush or just want to be home after a long day and people just won’t stop needing to turn right
2. I realise I need to turn around and all of a sudden the world and his uncle are up my arse or trying to leave every junction it would have been good to do a U-ey in.

People that can’t turn a corner without cutting it
i will be waiting to turn right onto the main road and someone turns right off the main road into my road and nearly takes the front end of my car off
it’s an angle, steer properly!

when I come to a stop behind a stationary car (usually at traffic lights) leaving what I consider a perfectly decent gap

and the previously-stopped car then moves a couple of feet closer to the car in front of them

so they've obviously deliberately left a huge gap - whyyyyyyy?

I don’t think it’s particularly unreasonable but people usually Men, often driving Mini Coopers that refuse to reverse. We live rurally with a lot of local roads that are either entirely or in part not wide enough to pass. I am so tired of having to reverse for 10s of metres to a passing place because they refuse to reverse just a car length or so back to a passing place, and often aggressively keep pushing forward while I’m reversing, sometimes to the degree that if I need to pull forward a tad to readjust my line I don’t have space to. The width of the road isn’t my fault mate! A fella a couple of weeks back was pushing me to reverse back out of a lane on to a main road, despite there being a big field entrance he could have pulled into just feet behind him!

Also people who don’t say thanks for a courtesy, although DH is sometimes guilty of this, so I’ll often wave for him if I’m in the passenger seat.

The road to my work! It has a cycle path all the way along, separated from the road by a grass verge, and is a bendy road so little opportunity to overtake. I used to have a modicum of sympathy because it was a dirt track and not great for road bikes, but it was made tarmac a couple of years ago so no excuse now. GET ON THE BLOODY TRACK YOU LYCRA CLAD IMBECILE.

People who can’t use the zipper merge. I’m not queuing for half a mile because you’re an idiot and will absolutely go down the empty lane and merge in.

People who cause queues by not using all the lanes. There’s some lights near us where 2 lanes open out into 3, I’m using that 3rd lane.

People who trundle along in the middle lane on the motorway.

People who can’t read the enormous signs and road markings telling you which lane to be in.

Essentially, other road users.

People who swing their car left before taking a right into a side street (or vice versa) so they pretty much go into the opposite lane of traffic. Your car ain't that big and the side road ain't that tight

At least there's some rules to driving... Try walking! It's a complete free for all to be a rage biting, street blocking arsehole 😁
It's the last 3 minutes into work - 1 across the car park, 1 up an escalator, 1 minute busy walk - that finish my nervous system for the day before it's even started!

People who don’t wave thank you when I’ve stopped to let them through on a narrow lane. Also miserable drivers who just barge through the village way too fast for pedestrians with no pavements. Basically people without manners who are in their bubble of one.A smile and a wave makes the day go much better thank you all the thoughtful drivers.

People who indicate to go round parked cars. There’s no need!
People who drive 10+mph under the speed limit.
People who brake constantly when there is just no need.

I am however guilty of slingshotting around roundabouts. Why queue if there is an alternative route!?

People who stop to let you through when they have right of way and you’ve already stopped for them. It’s so unnecessary and slows everyone down.

when waiting to turn right out of a t junction, in heavy traffic, having the person in the left lane flash to let me out, then get annoyed that I don’t go. No I won’t go, because there is a stream of cars coming the other way and I don’t think it’s a good idea to pull out into oncoming traffic! It’s the dramatic gesturing, trying to wave me out that pisses me off.

Drivers who hit the accelerator on an amber when they can see a queue of cars in the opposite direction wanting to turn right on the same amber light (who have all queued for longer).

Drivers who live in cities but choose to own unreasonably massive cars and proceed to drive down the middle of two way roads and take up two parking bays every time they go shopping

Drivers who take a thousand years to turn left (where there are no hazards, traffic or any cause to drive under 15 mph)

When drivers don't thank you for letting them through (when you had right of way)

Overly loud sirens - I can hear an ambulance from approximately 2 miles away but can't tell what direction it's coming from or if it will even head towards my road. They're too damn loud.

Overtaking a really wobbly and slow cyclist only for the red lights to betray you and let them overtake you again. Then have to try and safely overtake them again while they work out what the minimum speed for staying upright is.

Cyclists on e-bikes who refuse to pedal when you're waiting for the junction they're passing to clear

Pedestrians who pass in front of your car at a crossing just when the traffic clears

LED laser beams

People who drive for pleasure and just waft around causing nuisance to everyone else

Are you sure they are not jsut telling you to back the fuck up (as my dad would say!l)?

More a parking one. When you have a parking bay for a number of cars and someone parks at one end but leaves a big gap between their car and the end of the bay, but not big enough for a car to park in. So they are basically taking up two car parking spaces. It makes me irrationally mad.

People who brake every time something goes past them in the opposite direction.
Happens a lot round here.
People who sneak through as the lights change to red and then block the junction so no one else can get out from other parts.

This one isn’t really unreasonable I don’t think but people at the front of a queue who take forever to get moving when the lights change annoy me. If you’re at the front of a queue of traffic lights, you should get moving as quickly (and obviously safely) as possible. I get so frustrated having to sit through another traffic light cycle because the person at the front took their time moving off.

People stopping to let others out when if they checked their mirrors they would see that there was no traffic behind us.

Unnecessary braking.

People not driving through a gap that is more than big enough because they think they’re driving a lorry rather than a small hatchback.

People in massive cars who can’t drive them properly.

People who park so far from the kerb that they’ve basically parked up in the middle of the road.

This is totally unreasonable I know but it really bugs me when people pull in to let me pass but the road is actually wide enough for 2 cars! I know they’re being nice but it irritates me - yes thank you very much (muttering: but that was totally unnecessary!)

Drivers who hate cyclists. Especially those who use punishment passes (overtaking v closely). Two people killed in Kent recently. Someone else last week near me. I should be able to ride my bike a few miles and not die.

(And if I get any bullshit bingo about taxes, cycle lanes etc on this, reread and ask if you really think those things are wirth people dying over).

But if your not slowing the traffic on the main road your nor actually letting them out because there was space for the car to turn? Your just randomly flashing?

Sorry but my pet peeve is people that insist on letting cars out of side roads all the bloody time. If we're in traffic fair cop gov, if the roads flowing like normal stop impeding the flow of the main road and let them find a gap

I far more frequently see drivers doing the opposite, dangerously pulling out onto the roundabout when there isn't time to go and hoping that the oncoming car already on the roundabout will see them and brake in time.

Constantly braking simply for no other reason than you don't like the way the person behind you is driving is called Brake Testing (or Checking). It's really fucking dangerous and can be illegal in the UK under the 1988 Road Traffic Act

Families who park in the parent and child bays, but the kids stay in the car and one of the adults go into the supermarket.

People who use the parent and child bays with 'tween' children upwards. I.e. no buggy/car seat/child can safely get in and out independently without swinging the door open.
