Completely unreasonable things that really piss you off when you’re driving

It can’t just be me surely! I get so angry when:

  1. I am in a rush or just want to be home after a long day and people just won’t stop needing to turn right
  2. I realise I need to turn around and all of a sudden the world and his uncle are up my arse or trying to leave every junction it would have been good to do a U-ey in.

Catching every. Single. Red. Light.

JaceLancs · 09/09/2026 20:17

People who pull away so slowly that only a couple of cars get through a set of lights

Rubyfw5 · 09/09/2026 20:17

@BakersKitchen YADNBU to be very annoyed. Poor fuckers in your way can't help it though 🤣.
Mine is the buggers on a roundabout who don't bother to indicate their left turn when I'm indicating a right and, position their car so that they could be going in any direction so I'm sitting there like a lemon.

Mosaic80 · 09/09/2026 20:20

When you move into the middle (or fast if you’re on a 2 lane motorway or dual carriageway) lane to let someone on from a slip road and they sit at an awkward speed making it harder for you to get back into the left lane. Just speed past (assuming it’s not an undertaking situation) or go slow enough to let me back in!

people who don’t realise the “done thing” in my village - where there’s a longish stretch of mostly single lane (as people park on one side), it’s the done thing for people going in one direction (who technically have right of way) to just give way to people coming the other direction who are past the point where it becomes a single lane. As there may or may not be space for them to pull in. But the “I technically have right of way” lot just merrily plough on leading to all sorts of issues. In fact the same happens on the other direction too where they don’t have right of way. It just needs a bit of care and checking that people no longer seem to have!

BakersKitchen · 09/09/2026 20:20

Other cars daring to use the roads when I wish to drive on them unimpeded

I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all. Drivers who don’t indicate at roundabouts are at best holding up traffic and at worst putting others in danger.

BorgQueen · 09/09/2026 20:23

People coming towards you who won’t slow down to facilitate an easier passing for you or themselves.
Eg: parked cars on both sides with the odd gap a passing car can get into, car comes barrelling towards you in the middle of the road when you are already there with nowhere to go then has to slam brakes on instead of slowing down 100 yards away, enabling you to get through without them having to stop.
Why the hell do they do it?

Cyclists

Yes! And horses! And really any road user that isn’t a car - I particularly hate getting stuck behind a lorry in traffic and not being able to see what’s going on ahead

If the car has started its manoeuvre and cannot move over than it does, in fact, have right of way over someone who has not yet begun the manoeuvre, despite them being on the ‘wrong’ side of the road.

I failed my first driving test because I reversed and pulled in to let a car pass me, because I was on the wrong side and so thought they had right of way and I hate to move. But because I’d started driving and couldn’t pull over without reversing, it was my right of way.

Therainbowqueen · 09/09/2026 20:33

Middle lane drivers . Also people who won’t overtake the police when they are sitting under the speed limit on the motorway so they are driving along at the same speed as them but won’t pull over

HollyMcDolly · 09/09/2026 20:36

Indicating right to go straight over a roundabout. Using wrong lane to go straight over a roundabout. Not indicating at all to go first left off a roundabout. Why don’t people know how roundabout’s work ffs

Piglet89 · 09/09/2026 20:36

Halloumiqueen · 09/09/2026 19:25

People not letting others turn out of Junctions

my dad always told me to ‘keep the traffic flowing’ so if I’m driving down a road and a car is wanting to turn onto the road I’m on (if it’s safe to do so) let them go.

A hundred times this (which hardly ever happens in east London).

Popstarrrrr · 09/09/2026 20:39

To the left, to the left
Keep your motherfucking car to the left.

Stay in the left hand lane argh 😤 😤

RedFaerieBoots · 09/09/2026 20:46

Not indicating at busy roundabouts especially those with two lanes because you can still be going right around or off. I swear we need bloody mind reading skills.

People not letting people merge from slip roads. Summer is the worst for that but the collective nope not letting people in front of me as its busy 🙄

luckylavender · 09/09/2026 20:46

moggerhanger · 09/09/2026 19:31

People not knowing how to do a zipper merge.

Though I recently learned a trick that will no doubt have other drivers hating my guts if I ever have the nerve to deploy it. Say you're coming up to a roundabout, the left hand lane is queuing but the right hand lane is clear. You want to go left or straight over. You can turn right at the roundabout, and slingshot round. Entirely legal but likely entirely infuriating to everyone else.

I have no idea what this means. Slingshot?

Auburngal · 09/09/2026 20:47

We should not be seeing ANY food or drink packaging on the side of roads. The outside isn't one great big bin.

Finished that bottle of water? Leave it in the car until you get to your destination or stop enroute - such filling up with fuel. Many people drive in cars resembling tips so one bottle isn't going to be the end.

One thing I see on A and B roads are the high amount of alcohol drink cans and bottles tossed on the drivers side. There is a serious drink n driving issue.

Auburngal · 09/09/2026 20:51

Vehicles that don't move when emergency vehicles on their blues n twos are approaching.

NonComm · 09/09/2026 20:54

My pet hates - when turning right, you’re supposed to position your car so that other drivers can pass on your left. However, many drivers just stop in the middle of the lane waiting to turn thereby holding up all of the traffic behind them.
Also - other drivers don’t let you finish a three point turn, they just have to drive past you on the second point before you’ve finished the manoeuvre.
Finally, drivers who are scared to drive in bus lanes because they don’t read the signs saying when it’s not a bus lane.
I agree with a PP, you’re always supposed to help keep the traffic flowing safely.

Every other road user. I'd be fine if I were the only one on the road. 🤣

Working in the office during Covid was bliss!

Fatandknowit · 09/09/2026 20:59

Flashing to let people out of junctions or into junctions when there's plenty of time for me to cruise to it without having to slow down, and there'll unlikely be another chance for them due to the line of traffic behind me... but they're too busy looking at their dashboard/phone/sat nav paying no attention whatsoever. Winds me up SO much! My DH goes mad "why do you bother?!"

Haha of course this is fine - I used to do it regularly and more people should as would keep traffic moving while you swing round.

When you are trying to turn right into your place of work and the lights on the other side of the road turn to red yet there is always one dickhead that would rather come to a stop and not let you turn right rather than holding back and letting you go through’ grinds my bloody gears (no pun intended)
