Rise of far right

Sillyme1 · Today 07:00

Any one else worried about the rise of the far right in Europe. Churchill once said ‘those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’. Obviously social conditions are different from the 1930s, but there are similarities such as using immigrants as scapegoats (not Jews this time). Things can so easily escalate and I admit to being worried

Mark Zuckerberg has a great deal to answer for. Facebook opened the door to people's timelines being flooded with mischief and exaggeration, so you get posters saying "enough is enough" and assuming their facebook/GB News/X - informed world view is a shared reality, rather than a weaponised distortion.

It's worrying that posters assume we all share the same enough as an incontrovertible reality. If I were to declare "enough is enough" (which I wouldn't becaise its an intellectual dodge to leap from "I don't like this" straight to "wildly inappropriate and dangerous reaponse" without building a case to justify it)..

..but, if I were to say "enough is enough" it would most probably be about the underfunding of public services, or greenhouse gas emissions.

You know Nazism was never just about Jews right? It was also about Roma, Slavs, black people, disabled people, Communists, socialists.

You're reinforcing acceptance of a similar ideology by pretending it's ok because it's not about the Jews this time.

It was initially mostly about Jews, though GH. Hitler had always loathed them - taking some of his ‘inspiration from his favourite composer, Wagner - a noted anti-Semite. A bit later on he found it convenient to get rid of anyone else who didn’t conform to his ideas of Aryan purity.

Exactly!

We care about our country just as much as these men apparently do.

This is our country and we want to feel safe and not have our resources depleted entirely, so conversations about are immigration are important.

But I do not feel safe around these men.
These men are more of a danger to me and other women and children than immigrants are.
We know that this group of men are more likely to have criminal records against women and children.
We know that any time these men ‘protest’ it comes with attacks on our police force and health care workers.

These men don’t care about women or children.
They are far right - they want the same things as those who support Sharia Law.

There is a reason why 99% of the people ‘protesting’ at Dover are men (I’m guessing there must be a few women but I’ve not seen any yet).

Yes the men in balaclavas are very scary. How people can pretend they are protecting women and children are beyond me. They look like very scary thugs.
I am going by ferry in a few weeks and them being there has made me anxious about going. I will be by myself.

You are not worried about how rigid and authoritarian the left have become?
I was a union rep, paid up Labour member and I have never felt so let down
It never fails to surprise me how communism managed to kill so many yet is not feared in the same way as fascism is
I see no difference

Quite agree. The blindness of the left in failing to acknowledge what death and destruction communism has caused is worrying.

But mass immigration has halved. And they're still banging the black shirt drum.

This is news to me, when did immigration halve?

Blondiebeachbabe · Today 10:14

We have had thousands of undocumented men breaking into this country every day. They come from cultures where women get stoned, and where rape isn't a crime. The Government have not stopped this from happening, in fact they have given these men accommodation and money, and leaflets saying that if they rape they "may" not get to stay.

OF COURSE eventually the young men of this country will take matters into their own hands. That doesn't make them far right - they have little choice now as the Government aren't handling it.

I predicted this years ago.

Anyone who didn't see this coming, has been living under a rock.

I will be voting Reform.

Yes.
Read the AfD's manifesto and weep: segregation in schools for children of refugees, removal of refugee status for Ukrainians (claiming they're safe enough in Western Ukraine), closer ties with Russia, promoting AI as an alternative to immigration (Musk supports the AfD so that may not be entirely neutral as a point), 'special schools' for disabled children (!!!!!!)*, discouraging, quote, 'sexual deviations and non-reproductive lifestyles' and 'aggressively' promoting traditional gender roles within the nuclear family structure, setting up online portals to allow AfD supporters to 'denounce' teachers openly critical of the AfD. And so on... It's a really, really bad déjà vu.
*To be clear, those special schools for disabled children are not a proposal to enhance SEND provisions in Germany but well and truly to segregate. They are also planning to scrap mental health support (cause, you know, Siegfried doesn't need to open up like a weak gamma male, now does he? much better he drowns his issues in bad beer and batters his wife when he gets home)

The accepted definition of "far right extremism" (to quote you verbatim) is, and has always been, groups that advocate violence/societal overthrow. Which specific "far right extremist" political party/parties do you have in mind, when you reference a concerted effort to "frame themselves as mainstream"?

The accepted definition of "far right extremism" (to quote you verbatim) is, and has always been, groups that advocate violence/societal overthrow

Accepted by whom? "is and always has been";* *how on earth do you know what has 'always been accepted'

Just Google far right extremism and you'll get a different answer, both from AI and from other sources, such as the gov.uk site.

It's such a straw man argument to put words in somebody's mouth and then argue against an argument that was never put forward

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 10:19

@Blondiebeachbabe what country are you referring to? I have no idea from what you say as it makes zero sense and just sounds like an inaccurate sound it'd?
Or do you mean Britain where the rape conviction rate is so tiny campaigners say rape is in practice decriminalised in Britain?

WingnutSOS · Today 10:19

It’s the failure of the main parties to keep policy acceptable to the centre ground - which is where the majority of the electorate are comfortable, that lead to this.

There will always be a pushback if we veer too left or right, it drives those in the centre to a more extreme position 😳

There are worries and is a serious conversation to be had about illegal immigration but the solution is most definitely not to turn to the far right. Haven’t we learnt anything from history?

The problem is that the time to question immigration was in the year 2000 before we granted free movement of people throughout the eu

Even questioning immigration 3 years ago immediately had you branded a racist.

Therefore, the people who hate the far right to a large extent have only themselves to blame.

By refusing to have a reasoned debate prior to Brexit did affect the referendum and has lead to a swing to the right. By not addressing issues that more impacts the people at the lower end of society, lead to a swing to the right.
By ignoring justified concerns about the future of British culture, the very different cultures we were importing and the perceived favouritism because of DEI, it led to the right

The traditional parties have had 30 years to look at this issue and have done nothing tangible to address it.

So are you surprised that there's this lurch to the right

But even the numbers arriving are down too.

Also isn’t the “net drain” argument a little reductive. It focuses solely on money instead of the actual jobs many do. I don’t think, for example, carers are a drain on a society even if they are low paid.

Edited

We have over a million NEETS in the UK. Why do the left consign these to an economic scrapheap while insisting we need to import thousands of people to do the work? It's completely unsustainable.

Having large scale unemployment while importing thousands of people every year leads to pressure on housing and all our services and is terrible for our natural environment.

Why then are the UK government taking legal action to stop the release of crime stats broken down by nationality / immigration status? If the stats show that asylum seekers are no more likely to commit crime, especially sexual crime, surely the Labour government would be very keen to release them?

They're not. The MoJ rejected an FOI from the Centre for Migration Control for conviction data by nationality, citing cost, privacy concerns and the fact they already publish conviction data by factors including sex, ethnicity, age, etc.

Tbh given the CMC's track record of falsifying data to push a particular narrative, I'd question their motivations for such a raequest, especially since nationality ≠ immigration status.

angelos02 · Today 10:22

Apparently mass immigration is a major concern for many people. The government are there to represent the people of this country - they are there to serve us. If most people want borders to be controlled, then that is what the government must do. If they don't, what happened at the weekend is going to happen more and more.

Yes they are anti abortion. Women should be at home with their families cooking and looking after the kids. And it amazes me when I see lesbians support the adf because of the trans issue. The adf are anti gay and lesbian, don't want you to have kids, get married or be out. It would be like pre mid eighties when lesbians routinely lost their kids in custody battles because of the idea a lesbian could not be a good mother.

Many high earning Brits are leaving.
But many of the people leaving were high earners with assets and skills.

The ONS does not gather this data because I've looked, so where do you get your information from, @5MinuteArgument ?

The biggest issue we have is the internet algorithms.

It is literally creating monsters.

There was a study that said for the first time in HISTORY, it is now the younger generation of males who have the most misogynistic views.
This has never happened before and it’s always been the older generations that have the outdated views and with each generation comes more equality and acceptance.

If this carries on, in another 20 years women will have no rights at all.

Just look at America - child marriage is still prevalent, abortions are illegal in multiple states and now they’re trying to legalise AI child porn.

I went onto Facebook the other day for the first time in 10 years and I thought I was on an extremist page - but it was literally just a normal local one.

I can’t get over how angry people were and it was so irrational - blaming immigrants for her lack of benefits, people openly being racist, moaning that he couldn’t get a job because he’s a straight white male - but scarily how many people were agreeing with these batshit views.

So much this

In which cultures are women stoned and is rape not a crime and how many men come from those places? I know of stoning in Afghanistan but am not aware of any cultures on the planet where “rape is not a crime”.

I know different countries have different categories of what is an is not rape, (e.g stealthing, marital rape, false representations are viewed differently dependent on country) but can you list the countries where what they recognise as rape is not illegal?

We don't have thousands per day. Last year we had fewer than 1000 per week, and it's down 40% this year. That's still too many, granted, but it was less than one seventh of the amount you claim last year, and is now down to around one twelfth.

You talk of 'the young men of this country'. I saw a few hundred such men, dressed all in black. They do not represent me, not do they represent any of the young men I know. They certainly do not constitute 'the young men of this country'.

Of course you are free to vote Reform. But if your vote is based on immigration matters alone then it's a fairly clear sign that you have been radicalised, when the problems of our country are to do with many of the things Reform openly boast about (links to Russia, Elon Musk etc) or try to hide (financial corruption etc). They have no actual answers to our problems. They just seek power for their owne enrichment, using division to obtain it.
