Rise of far right

Sillyme1 · Today 07:00

Any one else worried about the rise of the far right in Europe. Churchill once said ‘those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’. Obviously social conditions are different from the 1930s, but there are similarities such as using immigrants as scapegoats (not Jews this time). Things can so easily escalate and I admit to being worried

Near where I live, there is an HMO. Migrants hang around outside drinking until it's time for them to pop over to the chemist opposite for their shot of methadone.

And I don't support Reform before it is suggested.

It wouldn't matter if you did vote Reform! X

Immigration has been reduced, so arguably, they are delivering. However, perceptions don't match the reality and research shows that people perceive immigration to be increasing even when it is decreasing.

Presumably because of all of the shit that they read on social media.

Yes, the number of people migrating to the UK is down, but it's still 813,000 people (2025) that need, housing, healthcare and education and understandably a concern for some people.

(2026 migration figures not available yet)

Had this where I used to live.

The fact that almost 50% of the people voted think you are being unreasonable just shows how large the problem has become and how mainstream extreme views are getting.

Take a look at any news article about migrants drowning off a small boat, the number of laughing emojis will way outstrip the others. And the comments.

Also, people these days use the term “immigrants” to specifically mean brown people.

Not to mention the idea of Islam as a religion “incompatible with British life” as a viewpoint commonly held.

The far right is rising. They are getting bolder. And something needs to happen.

You are absolutely correct. When they say immigrants/illegals/boat people etc they mean brown people

Moominhug · Today 09:43

I feel deeply uncomfortable about you comparing law abiding Jewish citizens who had lived peacefully in their countries and been part of their communities with violent criminals being shipped in on small boats

No but I don't agree with the Reform ideas, the total tossers down at Kent, Farage and the brain dead that voted for them.

Well, unfettered immigration and a failure to stop the boats will lead to this. Should’ve done something sooner IMO. These men with ideals and a culture incompatible should be stopped.

I travel alot in Central and Eastern Europe and using the term 'far right' for the policies of the parties currently being elected is an insult to those that died and suffered under truely 'far right' regimes. The continually use of the term for Conservative policies devalues the term. If you think Reform is 'far right' you need to go and stand on the edge of the Danube in Budapest where the shoes of women and children are created as art to remember those thrown in to drown because of their family political support, or go to Lithuanian villages that all, with little exception, have mass graves on their outskirts. Or maybe the mobile gas chambers in Solvenia and Slovakia to remove political opponents.
Closing down the genuine debate about issues around immigration and sustainability of communities and distribution of resources in society, by labeling everyone as a common enemy and extreme is exactly what creates the situations where extreme agendas can develop. But the left never see this because they believe their ideology is the only ideology that should be tolerated. Every report of centre right wing views is now started with 'the far right'. It's an attempt to embedded the idea that not conferring with the liberal left wing ideology is a threat to society. It's working too. Labelling reform as 'far right' and even facist is now completely mainstream.
It's not a 'far right' those turning in their watery grave in the Danube would recognise, that's for sure.

It's not a crime to vote Reform, although you would think so on MN.

Define far right. Because at the moment it’s deemed anyone who wants strong borders, to stop the Islamification of Europe and to stop the illegal invasion of single fighting age men leading to increased crime and sexual attacks on women.,,,,

so far right. And much much more concerned about the Increasing damage inflicted in our society by the far left and it’s allegiance to pacifying Islamists

we are creeping towards the sane outcome as Iran

Define far right - these days, increasingly ‘anyone who disagrees with me’ it seems

Its not helped when the police refuse to release information on whether asylum seekers are more or less likely to perpetrate sexual assault, leaving people to bake their own assumptions.

Even if the police did release such data there's no chance the right would believe it. Their minds were made up long ago and no amount of evidence to the contrary will change it.

For example, Henry Fudge did a deep dive into the data and found that, once you normalise for age, sex and socio-economic factors, the arrest and conviction rates for asylum seekers is no higher than for Brits.

Hell, you still regularly get posters on here citing the centre for migration control, even though it was proven they'd deliberately falsified the data in their reports.

YABVU. And what is described as the “far right” now was centralist not that long ago.

Eh? When were thugs in black balaclavas blockading ports in England centrist? I don’t remember David Cameron advocating street violence.

5MinuteArgument · Today 09:46

Yes, anti-immigration parties are on the rise throughout Europe. Germany's AFD are similar to the Sweden Democrats, National Rally in France, Vox in Spain, Freedom Party in Austria, Party for Freedom in the Netherlands and Reform in the UK (which is pretty mild compared to some of the others). Italy has already elected the anti-immigration Georgia Meloni and her 'Brothers of Italy'. Eastern Europe has seen a similar pattern.

They are a reaction to governments failing to protect borders and allowing millons of people often from incompatible cultures to enter and settle in these countries, stretching our resources and impacting most heavily on the poorest communities who have the least ability to cope. It was completely predictable that this would happen.

If 'far right' means not wanting boat loads of undocumented men from cultures that are usually misogynistic and hostile (a pamphlet telling them rape is 'not the done thing' in the UK, ffs.) then I guess I'm far right.

Frankly, I've had enough of my fellow women with their suicidal empathy.

'Suicidal Empathy' is a term used to express a misplaced empathy for others outside that group that destroys the group that person is in as the 'others' take advantage of the kindness to the group's detriment.

I agree with this. Having to tell people it's not ok to have sex with children and you must gain consent. If people need to be told this they should not be here.

Surely that would suggest that there has been a political shift to the left, whereas the opposite is true.

@Goatsarebest they are far right policies. Read the nazi election policies before the first election.
Of course all far right parties try and have some uncontroversial policies in amongst the far right stuff. But reform are open about abolishing the NHS and having an insurance scheme like the US. Getting rid of most welfare benefits. Cutting back maternity leave. Basically majorly rolling back the welfare state and big tax cuts to the better off.
Plus demonisation of anyone not white and British.

Look at trump. That is what the far right looks like in practice. They are not devils you know.

“Far right” doesn’t mean “literally Nazis throwing people into the Danube”.
And since you mention the Shoes on the Danube, those people were largely Jews murdered by Hungary’s fascist Arrow Cross not people thrown in because of their family’s “political support”.

Of course the term “far right” can be thrown around too casually. But the idea that you can’t call a party far right unless it’s comparable to an actual fascist dictatorship is just silly. There’s a reason political scientists distinguish between the radical right and the extreme right. You don’t have to wait for mass graves before a political movement qualifies.
