Rise of far right

Sillyme1 · Today 07:00

Any one else worried about the rise of the far right in Europe. Churchill once said ‘those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’. Obviously social conditions are different from the 1930s, but there are similarities such as using immigrants as scapegoats (not Jews this time). Things can so easily escalate and I admit to being worried

So 300 men in balaclavas is now a cosy sight of a group of hard working, married, family men?

Hilarious.

Their actions were non threatening. Sadly with social media people get doxxed and outed. Trolls stalk and harass. We've seen here the 'far right' crap get parroted so I can understand why they covered their faces.

Again, no looting no violence, no arrests. That is the actual relevant bit.

I once told a good friend, in passing, that I was not liberal and liked Kemi Badendoch and since then we are no longer close friends. Years of relatively close friendship.

I live in a liberal area and admitting to not been keen on Islam or the boats is akin to dressing in white robes.

These men cover their faces as they have jobs I’d imagine. I’d be a lot less scared of them than a MTF transsexual at a march with a banner saying ‘die terfs!’.

Where I live everyone clutches their pearls when our actual own flag is hung up. Our national flag is a sign of racism.

You live in an area of high support for the libdems you mean? Or are you using the US terminology for left wing?

NoDrums · Today 15:54

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · Today 07:29

That simply isn't true.

It absolutely is. Wanting lower immigration, deportation of foreign born criminals, concepts of national identity and integration were very much part of mainstream centrist politics. With the advancing of far more left ideologies, these concepts are now what’s called “far right”.

Are you being racist?

Why are you pulling the racism card?

Can we not have a discussion without you accusing someone of being racist

I disagree. Blocking access to ports disrupts public order. I've also seen pics of smashed windshields. Those things can definitely be considered threatening.

newstartforjune26 · Today 15:56

No, I’m not saying that they are here but I trust the centre right more than the left, as they actual think for themselves. There was a wave of people on twitter celebrating her death and you never see the reverse.

I remember this MtF in a thong reading for trans story time at a library during Covid times and these utterly dense mums of toddlers smiling and clapping at he waved his very male parts under flimsy lace.

What the Hell was that about?
Where and why ?
That's awful.

The left's reaction to the political murder of Ann Widdecombe. Truly awful.

'Blocking access' 🙄. You have seen other 'peaceful protests' with looting, rampaging and hate filled placards, yes?

No- because I wouldn't describe those as peaceful!

StandFirm · Today 15:59

Also, I think a distinction must be made between disruptive idiots who tag on to actual peaceful protests just to sow chaos and a whole group whose main purpose is to disrupt.

It was as was the celebrating by some lefty weirdos after Charlie Kirk's murder. Just appalling. Oh but they had different views it's karma!

Exactly! I forgot about Charlie Kirk.

I cannot think of a single leftie dying where it’s been openly celebrated by those who disagree with them.

Lemonraider · Today 15:51

No.

You don't care about the demographics of the native population either.

My daughter was born here, so she is part of the "native population".

What exactly is it that you think I should care about? How does my daughter's skin colour affect you?

Gloriia · Today 16:02

StandFirm · Today 15:58

No- because I wouldn't describe those as peaceful!

Well exactly! Yet we don't see quite as many hand wingers over other protests. Selective froth.

I don't think CK is a good example: the vast majority of left-leaning politicians and public figures in general condemned the violence. As with anything, there are always specimen who choose to be disgusting but they're not a reflection on the rest.

Are you being racist?

Yes.

Yes I'm being racist when I support the point that folk that are performatively petrified of immigrants are seemingly chill with groups of masked men.

I'm racist, and to the bone.

The lefts reaction was it? Who reacted this way? Starmer? Burnham? The 23% of the electorate who the polls suggest support Labour? Or are you talking about one lunatic TRA bloke who made the disgusting remarks? I don't know how he votes.

Contain4 · Today 16:05

Ask that lady referenced earlier who was gang raped on Brighton Beach and filmed by the smiling, non-mask wearing attackers.

Disgusting comment and completely unnecessary.

We are not going to pit victims of rape against each other to figure out ‘which is worse’.

Many women on this site have been gang raped - by men wearing masks and by men not wearing masks.

I don’t think you can ever say which is worse and I don’t think anyone should ever try.

Yes the masks are obviously there to intimidate but it would be disgusting to suggest a victims rape wasn’t as bad purely because the men weren’t masked.

It's sick af. If something tragic happened to Starmer I'd agree it would be a tragedy, so what if he was useless PM. However anyone 'right wing' is just open season for vile sickening mockery. I wonder how these liberal lefties get through a day the knots they tie themselves up in.

That poster is a prime example of brainless fanaticism. People like that are those that enthusiastically end up upholding the Nuremberg laws. PP is in fact already there in their beliefs.

Lower immigration, deportation of foreign criminals and integration have long been mainstream political positions. What tends to attract the label ‘far right’ today is not holding those positions in themselves, but the rhetoric and policies that can accompany them.

In that regard, Reform and Restore are not centrist. They are far right.

Taking Reform - withdrawing from the ECHR is a legitimate constitutional position someone can argue for, but doing so as part of a programme intended to remove legal safeguards against mass detention and deportation is well outside contemporary British centrism. So is there plan for mass deportation - an explicit programme of mass detention and removal isn't centrism. Their current policy page describes Channel crossings as an “invasion”, describes migrants as “military aged men” and immediately references murderers, rapists and terrorists. That rhetorical construction invites the audience to associate the wider migrant population with violent criminality and hostile military incursion. That's recognisably far right populist rhetoric, not centrist concern about illegal migration itself.

It’s border control that’s causing political shifts, across the EU and west.

They stopped traffic for a long while. One woman interviewed going on holiday gave up and went home because she missed her ferry. Another man was very late for work. Do you think all those people affected don't matter?

I think these inconveniences you cite are first world problems, and a small price to pay to live in a democracy.
