Rise of far right

Sillyme1 · Today 07:00

Any one else worried about the rise of the far right in Europe. Churchill once said ‘those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’. Obviously social conditions are different from the 1930s, but there are similarities such as using immigrants as scapegoats (not Jews this time). Things can so easily escalate and I admit to being worried

Just as a matter of interest, following on from.what Farage said the other day, does anyone else think he might be close to quitting. I do. I think he'll quit soon and then all the other contenders will start fighting like rats in a sack to see who can wear the crown. Can you imagine. That Zia bloke. Jenrick. Suella Braverman..All scrapping like kids in the playground to be the next leader. Then sulking and picking up their ball and threatening not to play anymore when they dont get enough votes. Watch this space.

The term “far right” has lost much of its power since it began to be weaponised against any woman who believes in women only spaces or sports or meetings etc. Language is notoriously adaptive, with the result that loads of people now shrug off “far right” because if freedom of belief or expression is far right, ok then.

It means that the term is now very loose - there is little similarity between believing men should not punch women in the face as an Olympic sport and several other very ugly beliefs that actually are what I would recognise from Times Gone By as far right.

I would file not liking Bauhaus as similar.

AfD are indeed scary af; they really don’t want to support Ukraine which is very bad news imo.

Edited

I appreciate your point. The woman survivor of the Holocaust in the report I have quoted, Charlotte Knobloch, does understand what the AfD are. They are neo-Nazis - let's be clear.

No idea, but so what? The attack still happened. We all saw it.

From all sides? I don't think so.

Oh right, once here. It’s not really related to who to let in.

No it isn't - but some posters use objectively xenophobic rhetoric when trying to redefine who belongs and that's the slippery slope I keep talking about. It starts with opposing new arrivals (there is a real practical and ethical question around vetting of arrivals and creating a level playing field for visa applicants; that question is complicated by humanitarian considerations ie. how to spot genuine asylum seekers and where to draw the line) but then it quickly becomes a trojan horse for the real agenda which is an ethnically homogeneous state with an ever narrowing definition of what makes someone an 'us' versus an 'other'. That is in turn generally linked to a wholesale stripping of the 'others' rights - and in tragic cases in history (including very recent history) ends up with untold depravity/genocide. That's where that particular train of thought literally terminates.

It's funny how some people claim that they get frightened as a white person by places like where I live where three or four foreign born men talk together in the streets, but they claim not to be frightened of about 300 white men all dressed in black and balaclavas refusing to explain to locals who they are or why they are blocking traffic.

If he quits it's because he is mired in investigations about illegal conduct and so will be forced to quit. He won't go willingly.

I know. Amazing isnt it.

@LuckyHazelFox yes I find a large group of all men dressed in black and with face coverings intimidating. Wouldn't you?
Doubly so when they refuse to talk to local people to explain who they are, and have no leaflets or banners to explain who they are.

You quoted my comment but ignored my question. So I assume you don't think the local people made very late for work or who missed their holiday ferry matter?

No they don't have banners with hostile threatening slogans towards Jews. They don't tear down leaflets either, disrupting an appeal to bring home hostages. I think a missed ferry and being late for work is quite trivial in the grand scheme of things.

The room was full of thousands of Reform supporters. If there was an alternative narrative, then believe me, we'd have seen the video by now.

What we have seen is video footage from multiple different angles. All showing the same thing - Reform supporters assaulting a young woman.

I'm sick of people using phrases like 'far-right'.

Because the AfD are literally proscribed as an ‘extreme far right’ group in Germany.

how can the AfD be proscribed in Germany given that they have stood in and won victory in an election? Guessing you meant to type described, but it does give your post a totally different meaning.

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 15:30

@LuckyHazelFox thanks for agreeing. You don't care about the local people affected by 300 exclusively men dressed in black and balaclavas blocking roads and intimidating local people. I could tell you didn't care, but thanks for confirming it yourself.

Well she was a woman with a voice, not a woman in the kitchen, of course they attacked her. Absolute thugs.

Yes it's incredble isnt it how some are so terrified of people in black standing silently. No chants, no 'from the river to the sea' no 'decapitate infidels' no 'decapitate terfs', no hammer attacks, no gestures of throat slitting. Just standing there. The fear and shock is as always so very selective.

At the end of the day there is no justification for this violence from a group of people towards one woman.

They are classified as ‘extreme far right’ in Germany. Which is why no one wants to form a coalition with them.

They're not illegal but they've been isolated politically (so far) with all mainstream parties refusing to build coalitions with them. It's a PR system rather than first-past-the-post.

Protests cause disruption. It's the whole point. Not ideal if you're late for work but it's not like they were attacking people with hammers like that pro pal group is it?

So not proscribed then as the pp claimed?

Oh isn't it just. We've all seen footage of crowds of angry protestors storming airports to look for Jewish getting off a flight. Frightening kids sat in restaurants with thugs trying to break down the doors. I don't buy this fake I'm so terrified and horrified at men dressed in black. You don't hear at word if the protestors aren't white so right back at them.

For consistency they should be described as 300 fighting age men dressed in black and balaclavas.

You might disagree with it, that doesn’t mean what pp said doesn’t make sense though.

I agree with @CouldICopeWithAnotherPuppy . If, by raising worries based on actual lived experience, people are insulted as being racist, far right, thick etc they will move towards the likes of Reform out of desperation.

If Reform are voted into power next time it will be due in no small part to many people being shut down as racists instead of their experiences being listened to rationally instead of insulted into shutting up.

This is a bit contradictory though. Because people keep on saying 'everyone is angry about immigration' 'ordinary people have had enough' 'the government isn't listening to the people' etc which suggests that the concerns are widespread and mainstream views that the majority share. Meaning those who call you racist are the niche group and easily ignored?
I'd have thought given its the opinion of The People, you would meet lots of other ordinary people who will agree with you, without needing to seek out the further right in desperation.

Yes the same happened in my area. Reform UK were the biggest group but none of the others would have a coalition with them. So the second biggest and the others are in charge of the Council. 😇

Do they show what happened before the alleged assault. What lead up to this alleged assault? Did she hit the disabled pensioner when she was trying to unroll her banner. That would put a different context on it all
We don't know.
If there is all this footage why hasn't the supposed 'victim' come forward when asked by the Police?
If this was genuine she could have a field day. She could sue for assault, sue the security team for injuries, sue Reform for employing an incompetent security team who injured her, sue the people who assaulted her in a private prosecution (that could be paid for by the organisation she is a member of) the list goes on.
But all we have is radio silence.
I wonder why ?

That’s because they’re chatting shit.

The reason none of these women happened to be at this protest is because they would be too scared to go because they know these men are likely to attack them.

Even Farage has condemned these men for wearing face coverings.

I do not want it to ever be acceptable for hundreds of men to walk around in balaclavas chanting and trying to be intimidating.

I hope this doesn’t lead to other groups doing the same.
