Rise of far right

Sillyme1 · Today 07:00

Any one else worried about the rise of the far right in Europe. Churchill once said ‘those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it’. Obviously social conditions are different from the 1930s, but there are similarities such as using immigrants as scapegoats (not Jews this time). Things can so easily escalate and I admit to being worried

We are an island with water all around us. It is hard to have hard borders in the middle of the sea. Nevertheless, the numbers of small boats gone by 40% over 2 years. There is no conspiracy, no ‘invasion’, no blackmail.

Australia is an even bigger island with more water. They’ve managed to pretty much stop deaths at sea.

These men did……hundreds of them.

No women though… 🤔

And I’m not sure why you’re getting offended. If my post wasn’t about your situation, then why be so offended?

And I didn’t say day time posters don’t have jobs or friends.
Half the posters on here are SAHPs, disabled or work shifts - so why would I insult them when they probably have a harder life than most?

I said that particular posters (that everyone is well aware of) obviously fit into this category.

Like when the kids go back to school, certain threads get different opinions at different times of the day.

I don’t know why acknowledging that trend is offensive to you.
I wonder if it would be as offensive if I said about the kids going back to school and the change in the amount that of troll threads or did I hit a nerve 🤔

I'm not 'offended' it is jusy funny to criticise daytime posers when here you are in the daytime Grin. As I say speak for yourself if you don't have friends or hobbies?

Stop saying offensive all the time!

Anyway. Back to the debate. We don't want unvetted, undocumented men entering the country illegally in their hundreds, do you?? That is not right wing. I do hope that clears that up for you.

I see lots of liberals being interviewed on camera recently saying that’s they’d happily take a migrant in until one pops round the corner with his worldly goods and all of a sudden their house is too small / flooded etc. amazing viewing.

I wouldn’t take anybody into my house. Migrant or local. Not sure what that point is meant to prove?

How exactly is having a foreign born parent intrinsically a bad thing? People must be judged on their actions and their character, not their origins. Saying 'treating a native population like this is inhumane' absolutely reeks of xenophobia. Who forces British-born people to have less children? Not the immigrants who are having kids. If you want more babies in this country, your anger should be directed at the lack of adequate support for childcare.

Also a lot of people with a “foreign born” parent have a British born parent too.

Also seconded regarding people complaining that immigrants have children / more children than Britons. Well then Britons need to have more kids instead of whining about what others are doing.

Immigration is a serious problem that the government IS working to tackle.

Anyone (left, right or no wing) who thinks it can disappear overnight, by brute force or otherwise, is objectively stupid.

On legal migration, the current government has built on the work of the Sunak government, retaining:

  • the ban on most international students bringing dependants
  • the ban on care workers bringing dependants
  • the requirement for care sponsors to be CQC-registered
  • the increase in the Skilled Worker threshold from £26,200 to £38,700
  • the replacement of the Shortage Occupation List with the Immigration Salary List.

Additionally, since the current government has taken power, they’ve:

  • raised the main Skilled Worker threshold again to £41,700
  • restored the normal skill threshold to RQF 6 or degree level
  • removed more than 100 occupations from normal Skilled Worker eligibility
  • created a much narrower temporary shortage route with restrictions on dependants
  • closed the care-worker visa to new overseas applicants from July 2025.

On illegal migration, since being elected the government has:

  • created the Border Security Command
  • intensified action against smuggling networks and boat supply chains - by June 2026 there had been 3,900 organised-immigration-crime disruptions, up 48% year on year
  • expanded cooperation and enforcement in northern France and introduced the UK-France “one-in, one-out” agreement under which some small-boat arrivals can be detained and returned to France
  • increased immigration detention and stepped up removals, asylum-related returns and deportations of foreign offenders.

The net net of all this is:

  • detected illegal arrivals were down yoy 22% to 38,086
  • small-boat arrivals are down 23% to 33,374
  • returns rose 8% to 40,605, enforced returns 7% to 9,669 and returns of people who had arrived by small boat 35% to 3,310 – the latest July figures put small-boat returns 39% higher year on year.

Enforcement against people working illegally has also risen: in the first half of 2026 there were 7,270 workplace visits, up 31%, and 4,756 arrests, up 20%, with more than 1,200 employers facing civil penalties worth over £74 million.

Both legal immigration and recorded illegal arrivals are now falling year on year, while enforcement and removals are rising.

If you think the government isn’t doing anything and people taking to the streets is legitimate, I'm afraid you've been manipulated into a position of impatient irrationality.

The government is worried. Starmer described the far right as 'a very real threat' and Burnham has said many times over he feels successive governments have failed people.

I wish someone would tell me what "The Far Right" actually is ?

Don't try and backtrack on what you said. Why are you also hung up on women attending the protest or not? Oh yes, you're trying to make it about feeling safe aren't you. More presumption.

Yes because I thought that that’s why people want to reduce illegal immigration because they don’t feel safe in this country???

The men were chanting that they want to ‘stop the boats’ and ‘to protect our women and children’

Women weren’t on the protest because the men who claim to want to ‘protect our women and children’ would have attacked them.

If you have other reasons for not wanting illegal immigration apart from feeling safe - then please say what they are - it’s important that everyone’s views are heard.

Why would they have attacked the women - did they attack them on the Unite rally?

I think the biggest thing they need to do if they want to stop this is developing the skills within the UK to fill those job shortages. And encouraging people into those roles.

No, just beating up a female protester. Utterly vile behaviour. From the party that “cares about women and girls”. They don’t need to wear a particular item of clothing to display violence and intolerance.

Exactly!

So why would I insult people at home during the day when I am obviously one of them - make it make sense.

Posters just try and pretend to be offended because they can pull out the sympathy card and not have to answer any questions.

And no of course I don’t want hundreds of undocumented, unvetted men entering the country - why would I? When have I ever said that I do?

But when people call themselves right wing because they align with right wing views - then yes that makes them right wing.

I believe the reasons given for the acceptance of asylum seekers and other non visa entrants is due to the UN Refugee Convention. A reason, an excuse, justification, reality, call it what you will.

Bearing in mind that this Convention was ratified post WW2 in 1951 and was genuinely supportive of war refugees at the time.

Fast forward to today. That same convention is being used as a basis under International Law to justify the reason the boats/asylum seekers etc. cannot be turned back. Maybe that's an over simplification but I'm sure I will be told if so!

The Convention is over 70 years in existence now. Maybe it's time for a revision of this now. Refugees from war yes, all others (economic) not automatically. Or something like that.

I suppose the difficulty is identifying who is and isn't fleeing war zones if they have destroyed passports and no one has a clue who they are or where they are coming from.

But look, times have changed and even a big meeting somewhere amongst all the signatories where they can eat lovely food, stay in nice hotels, discuss our futures as citizens and decide what's fair might be worthwhile to get the issue out in the open!

Somehow I am not sure if anything would be achieved. I always say "Follow the money", because someone somewhere is benefitting from this, and it's not the citizens of a country AFAIS.

I await a torrent of - oh I don't know what for saying all that.

I don't think your insult landed the way you intended. I'm in no doubt though of the reactions to it, that we can't see. The thing about people complaining about intolerance and racism, is that they need to make sure they don't veer off a discussion to make insulting remarks. It can safely be concluded, that would make one a hypocrite.

blackpooolrock · Today 12:21

I think most people don't see what's going on.

All politicial parties want people fighting with each other - wether its about right or left, black or white, poor or rich - it doesn't matter.

If you are all fighting amongst yourselves you aren't paying attention to what these parties and the government are doing. They are all doing the same thing - taxing people more, putting in more surveillance against you and in general trying to control your life. They are getting rich, they are getting away with murder and rape and yet people are fighting about left and right? get a grip of yourselves.

Stop fighting amongst yourselves and pay attention to what the government are doing.
