AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

No, it isn’t. Because nobody is saying “this particular person is a rapist because they are from Sudan!”. What the data that various countries have produced does is analyse the relative offending rates on average per capita, within different categories/ characteristics including nationality. That is not discriminatory or racist, it is statistical data analysis, which is precisely the basis upon which public policy should be based.

Trying to prohibit people from analysing the profile of offenders because some idiot who doesn’t understand statististics is going to scream “racist” and pretend that people are saying everyone from X country is a rapist is absurd, and dangerously undermines our ability to make effective public policy, if people can prohibit us even having access to the data produced by our own authorities at our expense and having transparency so that people can hold politicians to account to ensure evidence-based policies/ laws are put in place. Objective facts exist, and they are not “racist”.

The comments made her are absolutely unacceptable and have been reported.

Yes, racist stereotypes are racist. Amazing that I should have to point out that racism is racist but to be honest I don't think we're dealing with some of the brightest sparks here. Do you know the harm that such stereotyping causes? The over representation of black men in UK courts and prisons and the mental health service is a result of exactly what you're doing. So is the rise of baying mobs of domestic abusers screeching outside hotels and trying to set fire to the people - yes, people - inside. Time to stop accusing other people of being vile and disgraceful perhaps, and have a look at the hatred and division caused by your brand of xenophobic and racial prejudice. Be accountable.

I’ve been trying to tell you, as have others, that the charts and data you are sharing are not real statistical analysis. They do not prove what you think they do.

Nice words but I don’t think the racist token is working any more against the increased threat to women and children

Jesus Christ! Nobody has said anything about any stereotypes? The discussion has been about the facts about the cultures and laws in the societies in which many of these men grew up, and the fact that we know from copious psychological research the impact that growing up in violent environments has on subsequent behaviour.

Are you now trying to claim that the last 50 years of psychological research on this topic are racist??

I haven’t shared any charts or data. I told you to go and look up the official data published on the websites of the German, Swedish and Danish governments.

So yet more completely false accusations from you. You really can’t stop lying, can you, with your attempts to cast slurs on other posters?

Really?????

No, I’m not going to spend my time doing that.

If you allegedly dispute the entire basis of much of modern psychology regarding how social behaviour and social norms are formed, how trauma and violence affects subsequent behaviour, etc, then I think it would be for you to cite your evidence for that rather than expect me to quote the tens of thousands of papers proving the above beyond any doubt which have been published over the last 50 years or so.

These comments become more and more absurd.

Evidenced scientific facts like the claim that some cultures are innately violent and, given the chance, will come to the UK to practice that violence here? "Facts" like that? Facts that you claim are evidenced via half a century of research which you can't be bothered to cite? Those "facts"?

Stop wasting everyone's time.

You have been stereotyping based on nationality/national origin, which is part of race IAW the Equality Act of 2010.

The narrative that they are more likely to be dangerous simply because of where they were born is de facto racist stereotyping and has led to street riots, houses burnt down with entire families inside trying ti escape, beatings, murder,…

I’m just so offended by this.

Science and facts aren’t racist. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever been accused of being a racist and I am so disgusted by it I can’t even find words to express it.

One of my closest friends is someone who moved to the UK as a refugee as a child. He is kind and wonderful and gentle, but that’s because he was raised here, in our society. He would have been a very different person if he hadn’t escaped with his mother; he says so himself, seeing the difference between himself and some of his “family” in his country of birth, who he now wants nothing to do with.

It’s disgusting that posters have attempted to claim that it’s “racist” to state the scientifically evidenced and obvious fact that the culture and environment in which you are raised impacts your behaviour and likelihood of being violent yourself. It has nothing to do with race, as I made perfectly clear in my posts. Yet these vile posters have repeatedly tried to pretend that statistical psychological data (or indeed, other European Government collecting data on crimes and analysing it to inform public policy) is somehow “racist”.

I really am quite shocked and I hope that Mumsnet will take appropriate action to ensure the posters who have made such gross misrepresentations and repeatedly broken the Talk Guidelines are removed.
