AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

We have enough scumbag, vile , evil, violent men here in the UK without importing any more from elsewhere

I’m a woman so of course I don’t walk around freely at night.

I don’t know any woman that does.

Even those who seem to, will always be on guard for being attacked because that is unfortunately part of being a woman.

But statistically if you do get attacked, it would only be 10% likely to be a stranger or in a dark alleyway etc.

90% of sexual crimes are committed by people we know, in places we feel safe.

Do you not understand that these statistics are as they are currently because these crimes are based on opportunity and currently this is a fairly safe country. If lots of young men without any respect for the rule of law here suddenly appear then you can expect those percentages to change very drastically, just as they are drastically different in many of the countries from which these young men have come. For example, maybe read up about the women in Sudan who dare not leave the house because it is a daily occurrence that women are raped/ gang raped on their way to the farm/ market to buy groceries.

The statistics making it relatively safe compared to many other countries for women to walk around outside and participate in public life are not some unchangeable fact of physics, they are because of our culture and social norms and laws. If you change our society by dropping thousands of young men from a completely different culture with very different social norms and laws into the middle of it then why would you expect we can rely on the current prevalence of random attacks by strangers to remain static?

Ah there you are, op. I asked you a couple of questions earlier which you perhaps missed. The most interesting (to me) was why you used several distinct terms interchangeably in your original post. Why was that?

No reason, that I can remember,

But again what use would this data be?

If it shows that Indian men have higher rates of committing sexual crimes, then it is going to be Indian women and other nationalities marrying into Indian families that are at higher risk.

If it shows that illegal immigrants are more likely to commit sexual crimes - then it will be the female illegal immigrants that are most at risk.

It doesn’t matter what nationality or place of birth you look at, the statistics still show that if you’re SA or raped it is only 10% likely to be a stranger.

That’s quite some logical fallacy in your supposition but even if it was correct (per the data from abroad, it is not), are you trying to say that if it is Indian women or immigrant women in the UK being raped then it’s ok and we shouldn’t care?! So in your view increased rapes in our country are fine if they are not of white British women?

Yes yes you are.

How am I defending them?

By showing statistics of rapes and SA in this country?

I have said I would welcome the sharing of the nationality etc data because too many people are being brainwashed from SM.

No one is defending violent men.

But we’re not stupid enough to be brainwashed into thinking that immigrants are the problem when the data shows that they’re not.

What data?

No I’m saying it doesn’t matter what race or nationality is, the statistics show that 90% of rapes and SA are caused by men that the victim knows.

So if you mainly know lots of white, British men and you get attacked- there’s a 90% chance it will be a a white British man.

If you mainly know lots of Japanese men, your attacker is more likely to be Japanese.

I don’t understand why a thread desperate for data has multiple posters completely ignoring the data that is already out there.

What data?

The data from charities such as Rape Crisis

Fabiansrule · Today 22:40

From some countries that do publish data:

'Across Germany, Sweden, Denmark & Finland, migrants are 3.7x to 5.8x as likely as nationals to be suspected or convicted of rape. Non German nationals are 39.2% of rape & sexual assault suspects vs 14.8% of the population, 3.7x the German-national rate. In Sweden, 50.6% of those convicted of rape 2000-2020 were foreign-born vs a ~15% population share, 5.8x the Swedish-born rate.'

1. Most countries simply don’t release this data, so it’s rich to say “there is no evidence.” The UK gov is literally fighting to prevent the publication of detailed crime statistics on foreign nationals AFTER it was ordered to. 2. The countries that...

Who’s saying they didn’t happen?

My sister was raped by an immigrant.

I work with very dangerous men every day.

But I still don’t let the algorithms brainwash me and I focus purely on the statistical data from places like Rape Crisis that are obviously telling the truth because they only care about the victims.

'I think you must not have a mathematical or logical background though, because this doesn’t actually prove anything. The fact that someone known to me is more likely to attack me statistically doesn’t mean that increasing my risk of being violently attacked by a stranger materially is immaterial to me. These are, in effect, different categories of risk from males, both of which I deserve to be informed about and protected from.'

Quite. Logic is desperately missing from so many of the 'but white british men rape more! one is more likely to be raped by a known person!' people.. It's worrying that so little logic exists. Though I wonder if it's more an agenda as opposed to a real belief.

An op many posts above (I'm catching up on posts from the last few hours, I read it but can't find it now) posted something regarding taking into account background 'variables' ref rapists.

Something along the lines of but some of these (undocumented unknown) rapist men have come from such terrible backgrounds, they are young men these variables need to be considered. etc

I'm sorry what? No. Morality is objective. Rape is wrong. It doesn't make it better to consider oh well Of Course! He's a young man from Afghanistan, of course he's more likely to rape, it's not his fault. it's his culcha, and or it's his traumatic experiences! they made him do it. Poor little sausage. Do me a favour. Just no. Nope.

There is so much data coming from other European countries, why don't we join the club?

I think you are either deliberately misrepresenting the comment or you are completely oblivious of how data analysis works. Which just proves my point that releasing raw data is going to create more problems than it may solve.
Adjusting for variables is not done in order to excuse something. It is done in order to figure out whether the specific behaviour (e.g. sex crime) is truly due a specific factor (e.g. ethnicity) or if it can be explained by a different factor and, in fact, ethnicity makes no difference to the likelihood of the behaviour. That's why statisticians and researchers create complex models to adjust for confounding variables.
I can give you plenty of non-controversial examples from clinical research if you need further explanation.

It doesn’t have to happen, we can change the system so Rhiannon Whyte or the woman attacked with a glass isn’t. Why not do that?

I’m not sure we even collect that data. I did listen to a podcast where it was mentioned that Germany does collect that data and figures released showed migrants from specific countries were committing such offences at 17 times the rate of the native population.

Amazing! I pointed this out on the other thread that we don’t have the data to draw any conclusions and was faced with outrage, being called stupid, long lectures on how obvious it must be based on racist stereotyping, to speculation that I was some government mole making a concerted effort to cover up and minimise concerns.

You dead right though, this data isn’t being collected.
