Everyday phrases that piss me off

As the title goes , a couple of examples:

It only costs xxx - What an incredibly ignorant thing to say in this day and age of mass inequality. On any given day there's a bullshit thread on here comparing pension plans and the amount of hundreds of thousands people have saved compared to the ones who have nothing saved.

Well I've never seen/heard that before - well Jackie, I've never seen anyone abuse a wheelchair user or a trans person or a Jewish person in my own life, but I believe that it happens, despite my not witnessing it.

Feel free to rant about other stuff that people are willfully oblivious to.

“You know” as filler in a conversation. It drives me mad!

Not so much a phrase but improper use of reflexive pronouns (yourself, myself). It's so common and people seem to think tusing them makes them sound formal/intelligent, but misusing them just sounds so bloody dumb. '.e.g. I'm going to the party what about yourself?'
Erm, no, unless you've already used 'you' in the sentence, you do not use 'yourself'.

Totally agree; this makes my skin crawl.

However, they’re not reflexive pronouns in this sense; they’re emphatic pronouns..,

Ilikesundays · 26/08/2026 21:20

“Super” for “very” as in,”I’m super excited by ….”

maxandru · 26/08/2026 21:23

“I’m so OCD” : this really gets me. OCD is an awful illness, not some kind of personality quirk and I find trivialising it like this so ignorant.

“Literally” used in a phrase that is completely NOT literal. Eg “Omg, I was LITERALLY dying with laughter”. No, you weren’t, that’s the whole point of hyperbole.

“Can I get…”. I worked in Costa as a student and every time I heard this I wanted to reply “yes, please do step behind the counter and come and GET your coffee yourself”

”Cool beans”.
So painful.

Stablegirl2012 · 26/08/2026 21:28

”I am wanting to…” rather than “I want to…”. Urgh.

maxandru · 26/08/2026 21:28

Also , as a teacher, I’ve found lots of kids recently asking “Can I go toilet?”. I mean, seriously ! Where is the preposition?! Where is the article?!

Ilikesundays · 26/08/2026 21:39

People who answer “Good!” When asked how they are.

One of my dearest friends hates it when people say ‘I’m good’.

I agree with you and with her…

igelkott2026 · Yesterday 14:09

Another one from me - everything is "kinda chic" these days.

Maybe I should just come off social media.

Empress13 · Yesterday 21:27

One word “Like” ! Used after every bloody word “It’s like … I’m like “ gggrrrrrrrrr ! 😩

Pinkissmart · Yesterday 21:39

I hate the social media ‘way’ of excessively using fragment sentences as paragraphs.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · Yesterday 22:46

I’ve just watched some advent calendar unboxings and have found more words to hate. Spenny - just say expensive ffs! Boujie or bougie - however you spell it. Is there a committee of idiots somewhere whose life’s work is inventing ridiculous words? 🤬

hairyweebeastie · Yesterday 23:04

“A committee of idiots” is now my favourite collective noun.

Motuihe · Today 00:31

'It is what it is'......ggggggrrrrrrr
