WTF is this new trend

AIBU to think the trend for Lingerie lace and silk as outer wear is really odd?
Everywhere I look there’s cheap lace appliquéd onto skirts and t shirts.

Then today I saw bra’s, as t-shirt motif’s.

AIBU to think this trend is awful.

I agree, everything I've seen myself done in this style looks unfinished and messy, especially if the hem is fishtail/diagonally cut
Also the colours used contrasting together can be so wrong

In my mid-twenties I worked with a woman who had a skirt she'd wear for going out which had a naked bottom printed onto the back of it. I'm 44 now so early 2000s.

I remember a trend in the 80s for bras as outerwear after Madonna’s cone bra scandal.

Coming through Gatwick airport last week there were some sights. I saw on young teenager in a pair of white knickers reminiscent of the frilly ones people used to wear under tennis skirts, but with the frills all around & a vest top with suspenders hanging down. She literally looked as though she had gone out in her underwear. I saw the frilly knickers thing a few times, but only saw the suspenders once.

I've got a few like that, they are all training tops from the London moonwalk about a decade ago!

Whilst I'm not a fan of the t-shirt, I always think some of the sneery comments about fashion on here are just so serious/uptight/miserable.
I love clothes and experimenting with new silhouettes and am actually chuckling away at pp's description about a silk nightie and feather boa combo as I'm pretty sure I had a similar outfit! I certainly wouldn't look back and be mortified, it was just of its time.
Fair enough it's not for everyone but experimenting with clothes and style is quite a joyful and fun experience for many people.

Unless it's a car (has to have been made before 1930 to qualify as vintage, I think) "vintage" just means "more than twenty years old" really, so 1999 things would definitely be vintage. In cars of course over twenty years old is "classic". Or sometimes it isn't. Personally I just call things over twenty years old "old"; it saves trouble.

It's like a lot of fashion. I look at it (and always have, so it's not just a sign of getting old) and just think "why?"

I remember 4yo dd asking me why people would buy a skirt with a hole in "when they'll just have to darn it when they get home" and I often think similar.

But I want to know why so many bras are padded. I hate padded bras. It's hot enough at the moment without adding more layers.
I went to M&S and all I wanted was not padded and not underwired (which give me a rash) and had a choice of about 2, neither of which had my size.

It was the fashion in the 70s too. I had a lovely floral layered skirt that had lace at the bottom. My DM hated it because in HER day, showing your slip meant you were a prostitute.

Yep, the bra on my moonwalk t-shirts assumes things are a whole lot perkier than the reality!

Blame Temu and Shein for the mini lace shorts that look like lingerie trend. Although Boohoo and ASOS also had plenty.

Prefer the mid thigh ones myself but are they are worse than hot pants?

I get a bit cross about shops selling obviously bad clothes. Not because they aren’t to my taste but because fashion is so wasteful. Producing loads and loads of tops that fashion people say is “edgy” but normal people say is hideous means more going to landfill - either here or in a poorer country.

I don’t just mean this (horrid) stuff. Clothes with stupid logos on. Shapeless dresses in a weird length and colour. So much waste.

The only thing I remember about hot-pants was my considered opinion that someone ought to have told Liz Taylor that they really didn't suit her legs. She wore some on one occasion when she flew into Heathrow, I think combined with over-the-knee white boots, and the press photos were not kind to her.
