AIBU to think the trend for Lingerie lace and silk as outer wear is really odd?
Everywhere I look there’s cheap lace appliquéd onto skirts and t shirts.

Then today I saw bra’s, as t-shirt motif’s.

AIBU to think this trend is awful.

These are being sold as running leggings.

Saw this in Next last week and thought it looked utter shite but I know nothing about fashion so assumed it’s what the young folk like these days.

I saw someone in a skirt the other day on a train that reminded me of a petticoat and then I felt old!

I think a bit of heavy lace can look nice but cheap lace looks awful. I also hate the see through wedding dresses. I'm sure brides will look back and wonder wtf they were thinking.

Not the bra on shirt thing, but in the late 90s there was plenty of lingerie-style as outerwear being worn. I did. Silk skirts and lacey camisoles and hems. Everything had that lacey hem to it. As pps said, Madonna began the trend in 1983 or so. No doubt some 18 year old is taking credit though.

Agree with you @Askandyforcompo about the current trend for wedding dresses - the ones that look like lingerie / a basque are awful.

In the late 90s/early 00s i remember wearing light coloured vest tops with bright coloured bras underneath so that they showed through. And the ultra-low hipster jeans with a thong deliberately sticking out the back. And we were obsessed with lacey camisoles, which are essentially just lingerie. Plus ca change.

Oh, and half the skimpy spaghetti strap vest tops also had a massive cut out in the front, and I was never quite sure whether the hole was supposed to rest above your boobs, or whether you were supposed to pull it down so the neckline rested just above above your boobs (kind of normal) and the hole was then over your cleavage....🤷‍♀️

In the 70s I bought a long (maxi) length bra slip in black from M&S and wore it as an evening dress. My friend bought two long nighties with billowy sleeves and wore those to parties and clubs. I'm sure people were laughing behind our backs, but we were oblivious and thought we were the coolest of the cool.

Not seen this . Yet. Not surprised. Will Not be surprised when I see young women actually walking down the street naked because it seems they are taking their cue from celebrities and social media and a lot of parents don't seem to be doing anything to educate their daughters in acceptable and decent fashion choices.

Totalkl fed up of young women pushing the boundaries of decency and the cool parents telling them that's fine. Just get on with it.

Totally ridiculous that women complain about not getting respect when they actually don't have any respect for the rest of society themselves.

I remember hilarious t-shirts from the 90s that had images of blue tits on the....well.... tits. "Lovely 🍐" was another classic. I think pictures of actual underwear were reserved for novelty aprons?

Exactly-there was a reel of the low jeans, the cami, and the corduroy blazer from 05!
Trends come and go in everything. I suppose in the past, only younger people tended to follow fashion, and over thirties tended to all wear the same (if you look at old photos, women all tended to have the same greying hairstyle and similar clothes after this age, so trends maybe weren't worn twice by the same women).

I'm very curious what her vintage 90s dish consists of? I just had a quick look to see what the internet considers to be classic 90s foods, and it only gave me sunny D, Capri sun, Cadburys fuse, and stuffed crust pizza (maybe that's exactly what she's going for 🤷‍♀️)

I was a bit shocked to find a woman wearing lacy French knickers as shorts in Starbucks this morning. I suppose it's better than dressing gown and slippers, which I have also seen in there.

Marianne Faithfull wore her nightie to go to Covent Garden some time in the early seventies. It was fairly sober and not obviously nightwear, but she boasted about it to make sure people would know.

I remember this first time round. God I’m old.
