AIBU to change schools over my husband helping a neighbour?

Dh had always done school drop off and pick up due to my work hours and over the last 18 months I’d got increasingly irritated by him walking with or giving a lift to a neighbour whose child goes to the same school.

So I decided we would change dc to a different school a little further away and they are due to start there in a couple of weeks.

I didn’t want to spend time on discussions and boundaries and wanted to just eliminate the stress on our relationship. I told him I wasn’t comfortable that I’d asked him to stop and as he wasn’t I was changing schools to which he said ‘fine that’s your choice’. Dc are ok about it as we know people who go to the new school as well.

Neighbour has just spoken to us as we were leaving at the same time and she said to dh ‘back to the usual routine soon then!’ And I said ‘actually no, dc are going to be at a different school so all change for us !’ To which she turned to dh and said ‘why haven’t you told me this already?’ Which I found odd.

Unless he has previous form for cheating/lying, this seems an extreme reaction.

what bothered you about the neighbour?

ALovelyPinkUnicorn · 23/08/2026 11:47

are you doing the school run now?
what if he talks to someone at the new school ?! 😱

RoseField1 · 23/08/2026 11:48

Your poor children

Cardhey · 23/08/2026 11:48

You are very bizarre… your poor kid

rwalker · 23/08/2026 11:49

Your poor child being uprooted to another school
have a word with yourself

Flumposie3 · 23/08/2026 11:49

Massive over reaction to move schools.

Raptors · 23/08/2026 11:49

Surely no one is that insecure that they'd move their children to another school just so their dad didn't talk to a neighbor and their child ...

MelonSorbet · 23/08/2026 11:50

Your poor kids if this is real!

ginasevern · 23/08/2026 11:51

More context needed. It sounds a bit extreme. Does he fancy the neighbour?

Fridaysgirl17 · 23/08/2026 11:51

So your husband was being nice to someone & you completely overreacted, uprooted your children all because he had a school run mate, thank god the mums at our school are not like that as we all chat husbands, wives, grandparents etc outside the school

Mumtotornadoes · 23/08/2026 11:52

Very extreme and not fair on the kids to impact their education like that.

But also super weird reaction from her.

TokyoTantrum · 23/08/2026 11:53

Why were you irritated by the arrangement in the first place?

Why did you feel this was bad enough that you needed to drag your children into a new school? Are they fine with this disruption? I'd have been very upset to be leaving my friend groups and the place I knew because my dad was giving a schoolmate lifts.

Evaka · 23/08/2026 11:54

This is all fucking insane if it's real, which I doubt.

MyArtfulGreySloth · 23/08/2026 11:55

This is bat 💩 you changed you children’s school rather than confront your husband in his behaviour? wtf 😳

MaggieBsBoat · 23/08/2026 11:55

This is very confusing. Does he have the hots for the neighbour? Is she wearing skimpy dress and winking at him while handing her kid off.
You‘ve uprooted your kids just because of neighbour. What’s the deal? Very odd.

YourHeartyFatball · 23/08/2026 11:55

You’ve moved your children to a new school because their dad made a friend?

Thats not just unreasonable, that’s insane!

Mapleunicorn · 23/08/2026 11:57

What? You uprooted your DC and moved schools because you don’t trust your DH? That’s mental. There will be mums at the new school too you know. And if he wants to spend time with her he still can even without the school run.

sounds like you have some major issues in your relationship. I would focus on them, not make your kids the collateral damage in trying to avoid them

rainbowstardrops · 23/08/2026 11:59

Please tell me this is made up because you’re bored on a quiet Sunday morning!

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 23/08/2026 12:00

Well that’s…. Extreme

JLou08 · 23/08/2026 12:00

I hope this is a made up story. Absolutely bonkers if not. Poor children. Poor husband.

blythet · 23/08/2026 12:01

YABI - you are being insane!!!

blythet · 23/08/2026 12:01

Just a thought - she’ll still be a neighbour. Maybe you need to move house too

LauritaEvita · 23/08/2026 12:01

This school is further away so even more opportunities for your husband to offer mini skirted, red lipstick wearing Lilo Lil’s lifts. Oh dear. Maybe home school?

Alphonsethatisnotoktodo · 23/08/2026 12:02

You’ve lost the plot.
