Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

yes I saw the post about the dispersal order. I work along ladgate lane area and regularly see masked youths on bikes 2-3 at a time wheelieing like utter idiots in my way from work. Middlesbrough got named the worst place for crime, those brave police officers my heart is breaking fr ther families

im glad I live away from the bad areas of Teesside

I’ve just seen that dispersal notice. We were driving through the area this afternoon completely by chance (although we are local we don’t normally do that route) and it just brought home the tragedy. I drive on the A66 nearly every day and it’s heartbreaking to think of those officers (and the ones who were in pursuit who must feel terrible even though they are not to blame in any way).

Yes, this area is probably one of the most challenging to police in the country, the schools have the lowest number of 7’s and above, our children here have had decades of industry slowly pulled from under them but that is no excuse to put others in danger. I’m sitting here, feeling hopeless at the state society has got itself in.

Noluthando · 22/08/2026 21:32

there is not one reason why any car should be available to purchase that can reach speeds of over 80 mph.

olivepicanto · 22/08/2026 20:20

Neither do I

Nor I. Not long before the Co Kildare motorway smash mentioned throughout this thread, there was another in Ireland, very similar in outline.
One of the young scrotes injured in the stolen car made a TikTok film thingy in his hospital bed with his adoring mother cheering him on, both heaping abuse and derision on one of the car’s innocent victims.
At the frequent funerals of these malefactors, they all carry on like the Messiah has been taken from the community.
But who’d be the Parish Priest who’ll finally say what he thinks about these deaths?

These feckless parents really think ANYTHING illegal is to be applauded, as though their repellent offspring were a mixture of Che Guevara, Rosa Parks, and Michael Collins (not that education ever plays a part in these lives).

One of the 5 appears to be named on social media locally and appears to be a young man, not a teen. A balloon release with smoke cannons and fireworks is being planned for Monday night with "orders being taken". Photos of him havent surprised me in terms of what I imagined these 5 would be like however I do think OTOH the culprit is the driver - you could have 4 others telling them to stop, we would never know.

Section 60 in place tonight.

0Thatsplenty0 · 22/08/2026 21:27

Absolutely yes, fuck em. All of Ireland have this attitude after what happened here last week. Except from the community the driver and his mates were from of course.

And what will ever be done in that regard? Talk about a minefield.

Those things aren't allowed on TikTok.

There is sexually suggestive/light porn content on TikTok, alongside a plethora of videos of men attacking women.

Had a pair of these idiots killed near where I worked. Locals celebrated the deceased scrotes by blocking off a public road with wheelie bins, setting off fireworks, balloons etc. Later there was a run in with the Police now there is a mural of one of them with angel wings!!!

If you've seen men attacking women on TikTok you should have reported it and it would have been removed within a few hours. It's not permitted content by any standard.

(Not that removing those videos would fix the fact those people exist in society, and always will.)

Even a 13yo gets no sympathy?

In a car with a load of other teens at 3:30 am evading police?
I have no sympathy for any of them whatsoever.

RIP to the police officers.

Paul2023 · 22/08/2026 21:39

My condolences go to the two police officers families who’s loved ones won’t be coming home tonight.

The problem is the algorithm.

Last year, I made an account to see what TikTok would show me. Bonnie Blue & Lily Philips prancing around and degrading themselves.

Vile.

Children should not be on these apps.

I agree that the problem is the algorithm but this is also the case for adults. Plenty of 17-25 year olds doing this kind of stuff. If you don't make the tech company change their behaviour, you've just kicked the can down the road hoping for maturity and accountability. It's not teaching people how to use these apps safely. I think most adults would benefit from the algorithm shifting too, as much as it can be useful on occasion, it can be really negative.

There are also lots of kids on these apps learning dance routines, music, art techniques, how to crochet, science stuff etc etc. Not all kids are like this, vast majority are not.

I would also say, some kids have been doing stupid reckless things out of boredom long before the internet. I think the difference is the competiveness and herd menality

Less than 10 miles from this A66 crash a young lad of about 15 smashed his off-road motorbike into a garden wall and died about 4 years ago. Same scenes with fireworks being thrown in gardens around including elderly people's bungalows.

And those ridiculous funerals are a slap in the face to the families of the actual victims.

I commented above, it appeared funerals for hero’s. So disrespectful if that is the case.

Heroes funerals should be banned for criminals. I know they’re dead so they can’t be charged but they should be made to have a small service of remembrance for close family only out of respect for their victims

Absolutely! Condolences to you and yours 💐

Children. Doing stupid child things. All dead.

But yeah, fuck em. Yay for the gene pool though!

Stupid child things? Are you for real? They were feral little shits who cost two innocent policemen their lives, i couldn’t give a shiny shit about them!

Heathertrott2 · 22/08/2026 21:52

Parents would've been asleep or pissed. No doubt it will be the white coffin, white horse-drawn carriage balloon releasing lot with their "he was such a good lad" tripe.

GingerBeverage · 22/08/2026 21:53

Does the alogrithm for Tiktok China (Bytedance) also show such videos? Or is that just in western markets.

Yes.

It shouldn't be there in the first place.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/08/2026 21:57

When I saw the news of this latest incident this morning, I really hoped that the police officers hadn’t been killed. I don’t care about the idiots who think it’s clever to drive like dickheads and put the rest of us at risk tbh. If they’re dead, it makes the roads a tiny bit safer for the rest of us.

There was a fatal accident near us a couple of weekends ago. Two brothers in their twenties were killed, along with a 17yo boy. Another 17yo is in hospital. They’d been driving like absolute idiots, around country lanes, in the dark, came off the road and crashed into a tree. Of course, they were little angels, would do anything for anyone, loved their mum to bits and had the best bed waiting for them in heaven. 🙄. Go on TwatTok, and type their names in and you’ll find umpteen videos of them driving like utter dicks, thinking they’re Lewis Hamilton in residential areas and country lanes. It’s no wonder they have been killed.

Something needs to happen with these social media platforms for the sake of the innocent people who get caught up in the accidents at the very least.

What goes through these communities minds? It's like a subspecies.

No I don't.

Nor do the majority on this site it seems, no sympathy at all for those who have made such a mess of raising their sons. Where did the parents of the 13 year old think he was at 3am? Did they care where he was?

I hope the tree is okay.

Yes, social media shouldn't promote this content in the first place.

noodlezoodle · 22/08/2026 21:59

There is a very simple way to force social media companies to properly moderate their platforms, and that is to designate them as the publisher of all content posted, rather than the individual being responsible. It will never happen.

But regardless of tiktok, these are not well-behaved children who have seen some videos on social media and suddenly launched themselves into a life of crime. These boys and young men are career criminals and even without tiktok they wouldn't be sitting at home having a nice cup of tea with their families.

I thought it was striking that in the Guardian article about the Irish case that the police went out of their way to make that point.
