Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

There was an interesting article in the guardian today about this "craze" with young drivers filming themselves driving at excessive speeds. If they get chased by the police even better for them and their followers on social media

What I cannot understand is how this kind of content is not being filtered out - if it can’t get any likes or attention it removes the temptation to try and do it in the first place. Surely it’s just common sense that any content showing speeding, dangerous driving or a police chase should be immediately taken down by TikTok etc.

A Teesside Community page came up on my feed saying they will not be promoting the balloon release and any requests to do so will be declined, and hundreds of comments in support.

'Hearts of gold' 😡

The community page came up for me too!
The looks so fake!
How can people have so many spelling mistakes? Especially with spell check etc!
It took 10 attempts to spell balloon 🎈 wrong!

The same goes for the craze for setting fire to hay bales. People are stupid enough, let's not encourage them or give the ideas that their pea-brains wouldn't have thought of.

'It doesn't surprise me at all to find that there's an Irish woman with such compassion and dignity and generosity'

Lots of people have compassion, dignity and generosity. They don't have to be Irish. It is usually for victims though not the arseholes that cause devastation and destruction and their cheerleading pals.

Jesus fucking Christ. I know she doesn't have to be Irish.

My point was 1. Look, here's one of those Irish people I insisted did exist, who felt some empathy for the boys' families, and 2. It is possible to have been more harmed by an event like this than probably anyone on here, and still be empathetic towards the perpetrators.

Yeah, compassion, dignity and generosity are usually for victims. But here, this woman - the survivor/ victim in this scenario - can extend them beyond that, to the person who harmed her. That was my bloody point.

Did you really think I was saying, look, it's Irishness that makes people compassionate? Really?

DaisyDooley · 22/08/2026 20:14

I haven’t either.
Parenting no 1. Be a fucking parent & don’t let your kids run wild.
I do how ever feel huge compassion for the dead police officers, their families, the officers/paramedics & fireman who attended the scene and saw horrific things.
I’ve been upset all day for them.
But the 5 fucking idiots who are responsible for murdering two coppers-nope. Not a whisper of compassion for them or their families. This will hardly have been the first time the 5 of them did something ‘stupid’ FAFO.

I agree. These young men were prepared to risk the lives of others and two police officers have lost their lives. I feel no sympathy for the young men - they had zero care for others.

You need to calm down. Where's your compassion dignity and generosity? Don't swear at me.

You have constantly criticised people attacking these thugs, you even said you don't 'like the word thug'. Now this nice Irish person shows us how to do it?

Nope. They deserve all the judgement, as do their communities. Hope that helps.

Have you read this? Just, because the woman it's about says she has a lot of empathy for the boy who crashed into her, as well as a lot of anger. And of the crash last week, she says many kind and empathetic things about the family who were injured. But also that has empathy both for the boys in the car, and for their families and what they've been going through.

I'm pointing this out not for point-scoring, but just as a counter to some of the fury on here, which I think is leading people to post things they might not really mean. It doesn't surprise me at all to find that there's an Irish woman with such compassion and dignity and generosity: this is my experience of the Irish people I know and love as well. I do understand the anger on here, but I think this woman's response to these events is important to hold in view.

With all due respect, this woman is a shell of who she was. Shes afraid of the dark, of driving, of everything. She can barely work and has been in intensive therapy since she was almost killed. I’m sure a big part of her therapy has been focused on forgiveness for the person who caused this, and also killed one of his friends.

Róisín is not in anyway representative of the average Irish person. I’d be pretty sure her compassion comes from a position of necessity for her own healing and peace of mind.

Be under no illusion that Irish people are bloody livid, sickened at the scumbags who have done this and the families who have raised them. And I’m not sure why you’re trying to prove different.

She’s allowed her opinion, no need to shout her down.

welfare has existed since well before the 80s/90s, but you know that
I don't think the 2 child benefit cap was in place when these boys were young- but that wasn't my point -it was just a current example of easy, thoughtless leftist discourse
I do agree that there is more to it than simply welfare but welfare plays a huge part-
economically still somewhat a north south divide though that's a little simplistic- but class is the thing and white working class is the real thing here- vilified, yet pampered with welfare- culturally so very different from metropolitan elite, never has this gap been wider but chattering classes are the media, the taste makers, the arbiters of what is ok politically- Overton's window has shifted inexorably to the left- such that soft right today would have been very much left territory even 15 years ago
white boys being by far the worst performing demographic by any metric but shunted aside by DEI, well they just don't have the same appeal (and photo potential) to Social Justice Warriors- you don't see Lily Allen quietly helping out at a community centre in Barrow or Wigan- it's all pics with "refugees" in Calais
it's no wonder that boys like this exist and it is absolutely liberal policies that have brought us here- have you ever read The Time Machine- Morlocks and Eloi that's where we're at.

Boys like this have always existed, long before DEI. Also, if it were any other demographic underperforming in school etc. people would blame the parents. Why do white working/under class parents get a free pass? If they don't engage with their children and teach them to be decent citizens it's on them.

Empathy for the people who caused her accident and similar accidents?
why does she (and you) seem to have this view that these repugnant, violent pathetic little scrotes deserve empathy?

We have to be nice apparently. it isn't the parents fault, nor the feral community's. We can say they did a bad thing but we must do it kindly and with generosity. Or some such.

Don't call them thugs or scum. Passat occupants is allowed I believe.

dustabsorber · 23/08/2026 21:45

One of them coached an under 10s football team. It isn't just the immediate family, is it? Those little footballers will be devastated too.

Me, because I'm an intensely irritating liar (and probably a traveller, right?).

Her - I have no idea. I think for some people, that level of suffering brings out amazing qualities. I think @AreYouActuallyForReal is right that she's probably been supported to find empathy as a way to heal from the psychological harm.

Genuinely, I've suffered violence at the hands of dangerous men, as has this woman. I don't know if that's why we both have similar feelings in this situation. But that's the truth. I think about the violent, addicted men who've harmed me and I wish they'd had better childhoods. I think I'd have been safer if they'd been safer. Not saying that for any sympathy btw. I don't expect any. I feel a lot of dislike towards me here, and that's fine. It's just a sincere response to your question.

NancyThompson · 23/08/2026 21:49

What I don't understand is how people DON'T get the anger.
You have these people that do nothing at all but take from society, and make society a shittier place. They are propped up by benefits, and in return they cause havoc with antisocial behaviour, making things more unpleasant and expensive for everyone.
Not content with that, they kill ordinary decent people who pay the taxes that pay for their pointless, non-contributory lives.

That liberalism has created the environment for these thugs to go about their business with impunity . I’m glad they’re dead it’ll save untold misery for everyone else .

I have a lot of sadness and sympathy for them, yeah. It's their fault, up to a point, but they were also failed, badly in some cases. Abused terribly themselves, with no support to come to terms with it. Yeah. I feel really angry sometimes, and I also feel really sad for them.

Exactly. Like the FB posts people need to read the room.

We've all had challenges. I bet most of us have had extremely trying times. That doesn't mean when something horrific happens at the hands of career criminals we can't rant and rage and call them and all their supporters 'bad' names like thug Confused. 'Compassion and generosity' reserved for the victims only, who are the police officers. Obviously.

OonaStubbs · 23/08/2026 21:56

Their families should be banned from claiming benefits for the rest of their lives, in perpetuity.

And @Puffinsandcoffee i don’t dislike you, you’re not important enough. I just despair that despite the constant violence, theft and general shitty behaviour of such people, there’s still people bleating on.

The Irish people you know are travellers. Will you please stop telling us Irish people to have empathy for the murderers. Seriously, just stop it. You are a traveller, as seen in the thread you had about your DH. You're writing with bias.
