Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

You say that about children?!

Do you have sympathy for the police killers?

You say that about children?!

If they are anything like the Irish guys, they have been terrorising people for months - stealing dozens of cars, assaulting pensioners in their own homes while robbing them, multiple cases of driving the wrong way on motorways to avoid police. Blinding other road users in previous crashes and causing other life changing accidents to others. I have no sympathy for anyone other than the innocent people involved.

There was an interesting article in the guardian today about this "craze" with young drivers filming themselves driving at excessive speeds. If they get chased by the police even better for them and their followers on social media

Until it all goes wrong it must seem like great fun (to them)

It’s not social media and it’s not a TikTok trend. It’s arse hole teens with shit parents.

Eh? Ban TikTok for something entirely unrelated to it?

It seems that the police were chasing the Passat through the side streets of the area. The police abandoned pursuit when the VW pulled onto the A66 in the wrong direction. Everybody dead when the police/ambulances got there. Obvs the police will have arrived at the scene of the accident first.
Absolutely dreadful night for Cleveland police. I’ve been upset all day.
Those poor police who went out on a shift and never made it home.

Local SM saying one of the lads who died was 13 - if that’s right what was he doing out at 3.40am??? I hve limited empathy for the males in the VW.
It’s never 40 year old women who go and nick a car and kill people is it?
Always boys/young men.
This Should be used as teaching tool in local schools - it’s a perfect example of FAFO.
The small rural market town where we lived with DD had a bad crash about 10 yrs ago. Lad in DDs class lost his older brother. DD has never forgotten it and it has ensured she does not drive stupidly and never gets in a car with lads in it.
It’s tragic but it really should be used as a warning to young boys.

My heart goes out to the Police officers and their families, the officers and paramedics/firemen in attendance. I hope there’s a go fund me for them - they were just doing their job.
It’s a very sad day for Teesside.

Robbing cars and deliberately driving the wrong way down a motorway, killing innocent people. No sympathy whatsoever.

Children. Doing stupid child things. All dead.

But yeah, fuck em. Yay for the gene pool though!

One or more of the passengers may have been terrified but not able to say anything…

Yes, it's an absolute shocker isn't it. Seven dead.

Just the week before the crash that killed the five boys on the M9 in Ireland there was another crash caused by a wrong way on the motorway on the M50 (Dublin). Nine people injured in that one (eight on the stolen car - one in the car that was hit). Both in the same "gang" with posts on TicTok.

There's been plenty wrong way on the motorway before and after these two incidents here.

One of the dead lads was in both cars. Extraordinary that he’s do that again after the first accident.

The police car was an armed response unit according to a news report. I wonder if they were on a call somewhere else.

They are possibly adults and with that comes certain responsibility. Certainly the driver should be aware of that but obviously they believed everything was ok. Young men and cars are not a happy mix

Marieb19 · 22/08/2026 19:31

At this stage we don't know the details but thd level of lawless dangerous driving is horrific. So, so sorry for the family and friends of the policemen who went to work to protect the public but won't be returning home. Heartbreaking.

None of the social media giants are making any attempts to stop this kind of content. Have you not seen the analysis on how an Instagram algorithm gets disturbing very quickly?

Do you really not see the connection?

It’s absolutely horrific news, and I’m desperately sad for the families and loved ones of the police officers who lost their lives.

It’s not social media and it’s not a TikTok trend. It’s arse hole teens with shit parents.

But tictok is allowing them to upload the footage. There's been loads, who lucky enough have only killed themselves, but many killed at least one other person. One good thing is it has led to the charging of the one lad, left alive, after the crash, which left four dead, here in Liverpool. The trend gas also convicted many others.

"Stupid child things"???? No children, even the worst roughs and semi-feral types, when I was growing up drove cars the wrong way down major roads for fun. Childish things would involve, oh I dunno, mooning people out of the car window while driving the right way down a road not particularly at speed and in a car owned by the driver or their parents. These are feral criminal things..

Stupid child things is drawing on a wall. Or putting all the toilet roll down the loo. Or eating all the chocolate biscuits.
It’s not Nicking a car, driving like a mad man, refusing to stop for the police , joining a dual carriageway the wrong way -then ploughing into an oncoming vehicle and murdering innocent people .
The fact that the idiots in the VW all died is their own fault.
Im hearted to see the majority of people on here think this way - and have massive sorrow for the police who died but not the idiots who caused it.

Marroon · 22/08/2026 19:36

EssCarGo · 22/08/2026 19:21

You say that about children?!

Children being used to describe masked teenagers, joy riding a stolen car the wrong way down a motorway ultimately severely injuring and killing innocent people seems incredibly, incredibly minimising.

I'm sad to say that you are part of the problem.

Wringing your hands, blubbering into a greasy hankie and saying, "Don't judge."

Let's hope, next time, it isn't you or yours at the wrong end of a car speeding the wrong way.

You won't be so quick with *they're only children" bollocks then.
