Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

I'm not surprised. We have an underclass in this country who instead of being gaoled are pandered to and, in many cases paid for by the authorities and the rest of us.

I wonder how many professional people have had to waste their time on them.

What I would like to see-if these criminals were under 18, is their parents in the dock as accessories before the fact.

The funerals should take place at the crack of dawn-in plywood coffins- at the crematorium with only one parent of each present.

Induce a sense of shame, even if they naturally feel none.

A bit more harshness, a bit more judgement is well overdue and there needs to be a correction.

I imagine none of that will happen but I would like to see the taxman take an interest in how any big fat funerals are paid for.

I agree.

Parents are too soft and do not want to discipline their children, especially boys.

I am appalled at the general standard of driving across the country, this is obviously at the far end of stupid and life ending. However, every single day these days we see 'stupid' overtaking up the brow of hill where there is no vision or perception of whether a car is coming the other way. Twenty years ago these type of mad manoeuvres would be once a month now you can see them twice a day. I think a reason for this is that drivers feel en-powered by the cars they are driving and think they are Formula 1 drivers. This has been enabled when you think an 80's Supercar like a Ferrari Testarossa would do 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and 11.5 to 100 MPH . These are figures most electric cars can complete today. Hence, we have a lot of under-skilled drivers driving in reality very fast cars, this evidenced when after making a stupid overtake, these drivers end up braking on a corner because they have attained speed to great for their driving ability. A lack of awareness about speed braking or their own abilities.

With regards to this particular incident and the one in Ireland it is obvious we have a number of 'young' probably 'Drugged' up criminals who are prepared to kill or die for a dare. These, people are also likely the idiots who film themselves doing 170 on the Motorway and are so stupid they don't realise they have incriminated themselves. If you had driven at such speeds why would you not keep it to yourself to avoid likely a 'jail' sentence or a lengthy ban. This in itself proves the type of people making driving today 'Dreadful' are a complete menace to society.

I’m local born and localish now (village in North Yorkshire)
DD has gone to Saltburn to see friends, up the A19 and along the A174,
.Wont deny -I’m shitting myself.
Have you seen that a large part of M’bro (Brambles Farm, to Ormesby Bank, To Eaton/normanby, down Normanby rd to Trunk Rd) has been served with a section 60 police order for 24 hrs to give Police more powers?
Obviously expecting trouble from the ‘He loved his nanna’ brigade tonight. As if the police haven’t got enough to deal with

yes I saw the post about the dispersal order. I work along ladgate lane area and regularly see masked youths on bikes 2-3 at a time wheelieing like utter idiots in my way from work. Middlesbrough got named the worst place for crime, those brave police officers my heart is breaking fr ther families

im glad I live away from the bad areas of Teesside

Pinkbananaa · 22/08/2026 21:06

PLEASE BE AWARE

There is images circulating which people are claiming to be officers involved in today’s incident on the A66 at South Bank.

THESE ARE NOT THE IMAGES OF SAID OFFICERS.

When both the families of those officers and Cleveland Police are ready, they will release them.

Until then, the message is simple, have some common decency and respect. Allow the families to mourn and not keep having to see things on social media which are harmful.

Several colleagues have already commented on various posts to say those images are not that of the officers.

Official news agencies, ourselves, other news pages similar to us and various other pages will post them once released officially by the Police.

Lets just have some respect Teesside 🫡 🌹 ❤️

Absolutely horrendous, as was Ireland last week. I don't care if these wastes of space take themselves out but it is unbelievably cruel that two policemen have lost their lives

I had to drive through Birmingham last month, and these scoundrels were all over the road performing tricks while vaping.

Children. Doing stupid child things. All dead.

But yeah, fuck em. Yay for the gene pool though!

Well said! We can do without 'children' like this. Fuck them and their parents and yup it seems likely the gene pool is improved with their parting. Many condolences to the innocent people injured and killed in this and the other similar crashes.

The tik tok dangerous driving trends for likes has been around for a long time, lots of high speed high on nitrous oxide. But it's getting more dangerous as it ups the ante doing more and more reckless things. I hate driving at night because it is rife on motorways, dual carriageways, country roads etc.

Kids are clearly bored and it's herd mentality. These kids have paid the ultimate price for fuck and find out. Nobody has any idea about parenting etc so wouldn't want to pass comment tbh. I'd love to see some hard hitting visits to schools to discourage. As much as parents should be educating, a lot of teens think they are invincible and they need to understand the potential consequences for themselves and others.

The poor police officers and their families 😭

JohnofWessex · 22/08/2026 21:17

Making an obvious suggestion what about a protest outside the Tik Tok etc offices on Monday.

Obviously I will specify peaceful but I cant imagine the Police busting a gut to keep protesters out?

Social media has destroyed most kids' minds, and it is deeply worrying.

To think kids are inspired to perform reckless stunts like this after watching a ten-second video?

I dread to think what we'll witness next.

None of the social media giants are making any attempts to stop this kind of content. Have you not seen the analysis on how an Instagram algorithm gets disturbing very quickly?

Do you really not see the connection?

But this is a problem with the general population, not the tech giants. My TikTok algorithm is recipes, fitness videos and tech news. I love it. It benefits me. Watching or recording car chases is a conscious decision.

I am sick of these companies not taking responsibility for their actions.

I've blocked all social media apps on my children's phones.

The funerals are standard traveller funerals so no, they are no more a slap in the face to the families of their victims than any other type of funeral would be.

You have to see it from the point of view if the victims.

In my view elaborate funerals should be banned in these cases and if they go ahead, prison terms handed out.

If your kid kills someone and you commemorate his death like some kind of martyr, to prison you go.

What type of funerals do people in prison get? You'd think it should be the same if you've deliberately committed a crime but killed yourself in the process. Like if someone murders someone and then commits suicide?

The poor police officers.

In your opinion.

You know how long the dark web has been around?

Terrible people have been around forever, with each generation their methods/channels just evolve slightly.

The problem is the algorithm.

Last year, I made an account to see what TikTok would show me. Bonnie Blue & Lily Philips prancing around and degrading themselves.

Vile.

Children should not be on these apps.

Absolutely yes, fuck em. All of Ireland have this attitude after what happened here last week. Except from the community the driver and his mates were from of course.

dustabsorber · 22/08/2026 21:28

May the officers rest in peace and may their families find solace in the knowledge that they gave their lives serving their community. May anyone who encourages this kind of behaviour hang their heads in shame.

Exactly, your gut response was "vile", and you moved on. That's how an algorithm works! It adjusts to your preferences.

Again, there will always be people who seek out violence, porn, animal cruelty, etc. It's absolutely awful but it's not because TikTok is creating these people from scratch.

The algorithm still pushed their content.

Social media apps should not allow violence, porn, or animal cruelty in the first place.

This.

It may not “create” the kind of people who consume such vile content, but it normalises the content and provides instant, unlimited access to it.

Those things aren't allowed on TikTok.
