Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

When I was 17 I used to hang around with my boyfriend's friend group and sometimes we couldn't all fit in my boyfriend's car so someone would get in the boot when we went out. That was stupid enough but it wasn't actively putting random members of the public or police officers at risk of death. It was only risking the life of the idiot in the boot and the license of the driver.

Driving the wrong way up a fucking motorway is way beyond normal teenage rebellion because it can take out an entire family, in fact, several families.

I remember joy riding being quite a problem in the 80s and obviously cars have been stolen ever since then but I thought they were much harder to steal these days? TikTok and other SM should be forced to find and delete any posts showing illegal behaviour whether its this drugs, guns or anything else

@WatermelonSalad1 police attended one of the funerals at least to avoid unrest. The lad was buried in a gold coffin amongst a great deal of what can only described as hullabaloo. The people in the other car, which included a 7 yr old going on holiday, are still hospital. Hopefully they will be ok but even if physical wounds mend their lives are going to be severely impacted by this nightmare.

Yes and their shit parents will be crying all over social media and the news in no time about their 'angels'! They should have been more concerned about their whereabouts at 3am. I'm willing to bet they had been told about their kids feral behaviour time and time again and did nothing. Now they are dead and have taken two others with them.

Teenagers KNOW that a pursuit will be called off if they drive the wrong way down a major road. What starts as a car theft, or a joy ride, turns into a life and death situation when the police are chasing them and they are well aware that all they have to do to get the police to back off is head the wrong way down a carriageway.

I don’t know what can be changed to stop this?

We don’t have the resources to save all these children from their shitty upbringings. Maybe not ultimately their fault but probably the world is a slightly better place for them not being in it.
The only good thing is maybe other children being put off doing this stuff.
Apart from that I only feel for the Police officers who lost their lives.

They were driving the wrong way at speed the cars are completely destroyed the passat is basically in pieces this has been released by the police hours ago, I live in an area nearby ! 2 innocent police officers are dead due to their stupid behaviour .

It was a police chase through Middlesbrough on the A66 not the motorway, so sad 😥

I feel so bad for these police officers and their families and if it was caused deliberately then it’s so scary. Anyone could get caught up in it and have their life put at risk. I hope the police come down hard on people doing this and act now to prevent further deaths and injuries.

The comments on social media in Ireland are pretty horrific. One of the families put a death notice up on rip.ie (website where deaths are listed with funeral arrangements) and it had to be taken down due to the comments on the condolences page.

There were also some posts on facebook by relatives which were, I believe, tone deaf. I don’t think it was appropriate in the circumstances for them to post. However, the comments were vile. There were also extremely racist as several of the boys were travellers.

I don’t have sympathy for the boys. However, their families do not deserve the abuse they are getting. Regardless, they are grieving the loss of a son/brother/cousin/etc.

When I was a child/teenager/youngster I was so afraid of going into trouble. If you broke a window, you would get a beating from the owner then the owner would bring you home and you would get a beating from your folks as well. Got in trouble at school and teacher called your folks in? You were in big trouble! I am not condoning violence whatsoever believe me, but fuck me, kids themdays had respect, fear of authority and put their heads down in shame if they were told off! Mouthing at my mum and dad or swearing? God help me! Village to raise a child comes to my mind! I know I was born and raised in different country and culture (eastern european) but me and my sister did not get into trouble simply because we were afraid. We were not beaten because we never get into trouble, but the threat was alaways there. I am sure I am not the only one who grew like that. We went to the other extreme where youngsterd don't fear anything because they know nobody can touch them! I see 13 year old tugs spitting at security and police, if I did that.my dad would send me into oblivion and I am 40. He still demands respect and helds me to the same accounts! I might be torn the shreds here for what I am saying, but I am happy I was raised in those times!

I don't think the claim has been confirmed correct. Only see speculated comments. The two incidents are both associated with associated with the Lucky Dip gang.

It's thought there's a lot of Lucky Dip copycat groups who post on TicTok - social media being what it is, it's possible it' being also copied in England. That is also pure speculation at the moment though.

Absolutely this. Very local to me and its just awful. Those poor poor policemen and their families, and all emergency services personnel.

Too close to home for me. DH was a police officer, we live in a village, just off (part of) the A66. The times I worried about him being late home from work, especially after night shift.

These brave young officers were doing their jobs. Perhaps with young families, leaving devastated family members.
Emergency services too. I know the trauma the emergency services regularly face.

Absolute scum some of the youth of today. Dangerous and selfish. Yet the funerals of the Irish youths, involved in similar, show funerals of hero’s. Surely not?

They are quite prepared for it go wrong though and know that they face death and possibly killing others! Utterly selfish

It’s terrible that they had such trauma in their past. However they were on a path to cause more trauma to everyone else. I’m not sorry that they won’t have the opportunity to kill anyone else.

I'm afraid I regard it as Darwinism in action as far as the little scrotes are concerned. Tragic for the police officers and their families though.
