Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

I used to work at a place that was in an area populated by these characters. Constantly on the rob. Cars, buildings, students. Then out on their ebikes/scooters causing mayhem.

The lads in the Passat are murderers, they don't deserve any sympathy or dignity whatsoever. Fuck them. If I knew them or was related to them, I wouldn't be attending their funerals or sending my condolences.

Speeding the wrong way down a motorway and 2am is not a "stupid child thing".

It's sad that they are so let down. But having watch many of the like, grow up to be absolute scum and not even get a lengthy custodial sentence, even after killing a child, you start to think they are better having their lives cut short.

The Chief Constable was very controlled as she made her statement, but was clearly emotional. I admired her professionalism and smart appearance on what was probably the worst day of her working life.

A66 isnt a motorway. In any case it does seem like a copycat. Absolutely fucking terrible for all concerned.

I have absolutely no sympathy for children or adults who put themselves in this position. They knew exactly what they were doing. Just like the lads in Ireland. Well you live that way there’s a price to be paid. Unfortunately the price is also being paid by two police officers and their families. And by every emergency worker who attended and tried to help.
This is not a case of boys legally driving a car that’s too much for them too fast. That would be a tragedy and an accident.
This is a case of taking a powerful car, failing to stop when challenged and then knowingly driving the wrong way on a road, too fast, and obliterating police officers going about their business. This is a crime, in fact a series of crimes. It’s only a tragedy for the police involved.

I've got 2 police officers in my close family - this makes my blood run cold. I feel so sorry for the families and the emergency services who had to deal with the aftermath.

I read that one of the teens that died in Ireland were under the care of Tusla, and another two I think were known to them.

Does it change anything that these teens may have had horrific upbringings resulting in them being under the care of a children and families team? I don’t know the answer, I really don’t. You could argue it both ways I suppose - many children who grow up in care turn to crime, and many don’t.

My career choice means I tend to look for the reasons behind behaviours, but it’s hard to excuse something that has such devastating consequences on innocent people.

Not sure a copycat more they know police won't chase them down the wrong way on a dual carriageway. The police car coming the other way on the right side was not connected to the initial chase apparently.

That could be any one of us with the car crashing into us. Someone mentioned early in the morning. Anyone could easily be travelling at that time for practical reasons. It could be a family on holiday - leaving early to avoid traffic.

An Irish tech reporter has reported a load of these videos to TikTok this week and none have been taken down. She also commented that when viewing the, the algorithm was pointing her towards more similar videos. So no, you can’t say it has nothing to do with TikTok.

My god, the poor families of those police officers. Absolutely horrific. I shed not a single tear for the miscreants travelling at speed the wrong way down the motorway. Bastards.

Of course awful things have been done by people who happened to be very young throughout the centuries. But none of their acts were ever dismissed as "childish things."

Good point @Raspbellies . Paramedics, police, fire service. Dealing with the aftermath of a scene where 7 people lay dead or dying. Utterly unimaginable. It will be with them, and their families, for life.
