Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

1000 replies

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

I do wish people will stop releasing balloons. They don't go into heaven. Depending on weather conditions, they can travel up to 60 miles and usually land in a farmer's field.

Or blow straight into the trees on the other side of the field and stay there forever. That happened at a balloon release for some cause a while ago.

Don't people have spellcheckers with autocorrect on whatever device they're using to post these memorial messages?

A Teesside Community page came up on my feed saying they will not be promoting the balloon release and any requests to do so will be declined, and hundreds of comments in support.

'Hearts of gold' 😡

If they’re letting them into heaven I’d rather not go.

I heard today it was a tik tok challenge to drive a car thd wrong way down a street. Don't know if it's true though. Personally I hate tik tok it has a lot to answer for in my opinion.

It wouldn't surprise me. Tik Tok is the full embodiment of "Gen Z" brain rot.

OonaStubbs · 23/08/2026 20:35

Hopefully this incident will be a turning point and something tangible will be done.

Can the taxman not enquire where the money for gold coffins and the rest of it has come from. You know, make them account for their money like the rest of us have to or would that be classist or racist?

They stuck Al Capone in gaol on tax crime, so here is a golden opportunity to get the rest of the scum in gaol.

doorss · 23/08/2026 20:36

Youth clubs when I was a teen were crap. Table football, a poot table and seating - that was it.

There were better ones available the other side of town but buses where I lived stopped at 6:30pm

Ilikesundays · 23/08/2026 20:36

Apparently driving the wrong way on a main road or a motorway and videoing yourselves doing it is a “thing” on TikTok. Terribly dangerous and , as in these two cases at least, fatal.

What happens I believe (based on my experience working in schools) as that the writer instructs the spellchecker to accept the incorrect spelling.

Only last week, one of the farmers in our area posted a picture on a community page of a calf which had choked to death after chewing on a memorial balloon.

One of those men had a huge, thick gold chain

HelenaWilson · 23/08/2026 20:38

There has been quite a lot of cash thrown at the region in recent years. Many and varied organisations have tried to set up youth clubs and all sorts of activities, either very heavily subsidised or totally free - sports clubs - football, martial arts, swimming, cricket, athletics - arts and drama clubs, games nights, you name it. Hundreds, probably thousands of people have given their time to try and make a difference.

PC Matthew Blades, one of those who died, was one of them, according to the tributes posted by the BBC. He was involved with coaching U10 football and junior rugby.

To match his huge thick neck no doubt.

Beryl92 · 23/08/2026 20:41

This is so awful, and my sympathies are with those poor officers. Tiktok needs to go. I hope one day we look back on this and can't believe we gave teens access to this toxic nonsense (because the alternative future is unthinkable). Both my kids say they'd never bring kids into this world, and at the moment I can see why.

It won’t be a turning point unfortunately, this has been going on for years.

At least 2 more incidents of stolen cars being driven the wrong way on motorways to evade gardaí since the horrendous Irish crash.

These scumbags won’t stop doing this, so they have to be stopped. How we do that, without putting the gardaí and public at further risk, I just don’t know.

Iit hasn’t been confirmed that they’re all from the travelling community. Afaik. I’d hold back a little on travellers,
There has been lots of research on white young men from disadvantaged communities. This is the outcome of letting them take over communities terrorising decent neighbours.

And no-one being allowed to do anything about it in case it upsets them, the police have to so softly softly and teachers must not raise their voices at the little dears. There are now at least 2 generations who have been treated wth kid gloves and we are seeing the consequences, all many of them can do is breed then leave those who work for a living bring up their off-spring.

They often do (or what apparently to be gold). Similarly sovereign rings or fake watches. However some fashion accessories are perhaps just to the owners taste and not indicative of wealth or statusl

I don't give a damn whether it's thought to be classist, racist or any other 'ist' that can be conveniently thought up, all classes, races are subject to the laws of the land and paying taxes is one of those laws. HMRC could make it their aim to check the finances of people like this who seem to have more than they can account for.

Have you read this? Just, because the woman it's about says she has a lot of empathy for the boy who crashed into her, as well as a lot of anger. And of the crash last week, she says many kind and empathetic things about the family who were injured. But also that has empathy both for the boys in the car, and for their families and what they've been going through.

I'm pointing this out not for point-scoring, but just as a counter to some of the fury on here, which I think is leading people to post things they might not really mean. It doesn't surprise me at all to find that there's an Irish woman with such compassion and dignity and generosity: this is my experience of the Irish people I know and love as well. I do understand the anger on here, but I think this woman's response to these events is important to hold in view.

I'm assuming it was a gold coloured coffin rather than a coffin made of gold. I don't suppose that particularly more expensive than another colour

It can't be that HMRC aren't aware of travellers, it's probably not an easy task

If cars are stolen yes, but so many stories where young lads have driven too fast and killed their girlfriends and other passengers. An awful one where I live where a lad killed a girl on her 18th birthday and all the other passengers have horrible life changing injuries. Another awful one where a group of young lads drowned after the car flew off a bridge. One of their mothers is campaigning for this law. They egg each other on and peer pressure kicks in. If they weren’t allowed passengers these incidents would massively reduce.

Is the 18th birthday one, her sister has made a video with the police? Because I couldn’t bear to watch it! Heartbreaking 💔 .

'It doesn't surprise me at all to find that there's an Irish woman with such compassion and dignity and generosity'

Lots of people have compassion, dignity and generosity. They don't have to be Irish. It is usually for victims though not the arseholes that cause devastation and destruction and their cheerleading pals.
