Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

I’m aware I’m coming across as overly anxious here but if there is a craze of daring teens to do this, that terrifies me! The thought that people would willing putting others at risk like that is really scary!

You're not alone. As well as absolute fury for the senseless deaths of the two police officers, yesterday I was irrationally stressed - not so much for me, but for my family. Makes me so angry.

I could not disagree with this more. Citizenship, whether through birthright or through naturalisation should be absolute imo.

Any country, particularly countries such as the UK who have high levels of development, should be able to - and have the responsibility to - adequately deal with their own criminals. Once the decision to confer citizenship has been taken, that should be final.

No, becoming a citizen- either by birth or conferral- is something which can and should be taken away. If only these five shits and their parents had been shown the door years ago-what loss would it have been.

I do think your way of thinking is entering its death throes and, although it might take a generation or two, the idea that anyone can rock up, become citizens as a gift and then spit on the people that gave it to them is losing popularity and more and more people are starting to question the sense of it.

So, take out the soggy hanky and the tiny violin and get ready to use them.

Citzienship is a privilege, not a right and as such the state should be able to revoke it at any time, both on those who have had it conferred as a gift and those who have it by birthright but whose behaviour outrages society,

An example of the latter would be these five shits and their mothers.

It could mean removal of all state money, the removal of the right to earn money, the loss of all assets including houses and cars, the loss of medical treatment, the loss of education, and ultimately, the loss of the right to stand on the soil of the country you duped and treated like shit.

Where will they go?

Maybe China will take them to work in the mines? Maybe we could build a prison ship that just sails around the world, only coming into port to change staff?

Let your imagination run free but always remember that one day citizenship will be viewed as something that can and should be withdrawn

Because right now the lunatics are running the asylum , aided and abetted by people who defend them either for money or because they haven't got the brain of an intelligent five year old.

I don't care what they think, their thoughts are of no consequence to me, whine and shriek as they will and, as I say, in two generations this will be the majority view.

The families of the 5 thugs have set up a go fund me and raised 5000 so far completely tone deaf. God knows who on earth is donating

This is crazy.
How on earth do people donate knowing these thugs have killed two police officers.

The way they were driving, it could have been anyone who came infront of their car would have got killed.

At least two of them will have been on this thread, with their wet hankies and yelps about the rights of all.

Ohcrap082024 · 23/08/2026 17:44

Two of the 5 were 23. Old enough to know better. Old enough to not hang out with 17 year old lads. I would put good money on the 2 older ones being in the front and the stupid younger ones in the back. With no seat belts.

The ultimate responsibility lies with the person who was holding the steering wheel and with his foot on the accelerator. He made the decision to drive as he did. The others may have goaded him but he was in charge of the car.

ItsPickleRick · 23/08/2026 17:46

Apologies for the daily mail link, correct photos of the two officers have been released.

One of them had a young son. It’s just so sad.

AuntieBiotics · 23/08/2026 17:47

tragic for the families of the officers. Nobody should go to work and not come home.

the families of the 5 chavs in the Passat - not so much. These young men were not going to be honest and upstanding citizens. They have at least taken themselves out of the DNA pool. The sad thing is that we’ll probably be reading a similar story about the 1 year old son of one of them in 20 years.

I didn't find it clear. I didn't understand. I do now. And yeah, I disagree. I'd be surprised if anyone who knows much about history or international law would agree, but then, I've been quite surprised by the number of people advocating sterilisation here too.

GunnelVallquist · 23/08/2026 17:49

Just horrific and I’m afraid I agree with the majority of posters.

My sympathy lies with the families of the killed police officers.

As for the families of the utter scum that caused the accident; if those social media posts are true then words fail me.

But it certainly helps explain why those young men (I’d like to use a different word here) turned out the way they did.

Puffinsandcoffee · 23/08/2026 17:50

OonaStubbs · 23/08/2026 14:33

We need to crack down on travellers and stop making allowances for them.

What do you mean when you say "crack down on travellers"? Do you mean all of them? Or just the ones breaking the law? Why just / especially traveller law-breakers?

LowAndSlow · 23/08/2026 17:52

They weren't kids; 2 aged 17,one 18 and two 23.

Puffinsandcoffee · 23/08/2026 17:54

0Thatsplenty0 · 23/08/2026 14:53

Oh indeed they do. Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly condemned their behaviour. Minister for Justic Jim O'Callaghan strongly condemned them, he didn't even mention their families in his statement. Get your facts right. You sound as if you don't even know the facts surrounding this.

Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly + Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan doesn't add up to "all of Ireland". I was disputing the hyperbole - I don't think it's helpful. "All of Ireland" will have a huge range of views on this, and I don't personally know any Irish people who feel represented by the Garda Commissioner or the Minister for Justice.

Greywizardthewhite · 23/08/2026 17:57

💐 to the police officers. Heartbreaking
I’ve seen the photos of the men and they look exactly like I thought they would!
I know that’s not kind but I don’t care!
I live in a pit village in County Durham, so I know what deprivation looks like!

Puffinsandcoffee · 23/08/2026 17:59

ownedbymydogs · 23/08/2026 12:01

Really? So why did you assert so confidently two pages ago (in response to a comment of mine) that they ‘weren’t travellers.’

You pick up semantics you don’t like but never seem to respond to people who have direct experience of the nightmare of living in the environs of these communities. You are lucky to be so sheltered.

I'm not sure I did, but if so - sorry - my mistake - I don't know if they're travellers or not.

I don't think, if you knew anything about my life, you'd think I was remotely "sheltered" from the sorts of behaviour I get the impression you think is typical of Irish travellers.

But what should I respond to? I don't know what semantics is, but I don't have anything to say about other people's experience. I believe them. It sounds really awful. But what should I be responding to?

JennyBG · 23/08/2026 18:03

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/08/2026 19:15

From bbc..

Around three minutes later, a Volkswagen Passat travelling the wrong way on the A66 nearby collided with a marked police vehicle. PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough are confirmed to have died in the crash, along with the five occupants of the Volkswagen.

The BBC understands the officers had not been part of the pursuit, which was abandoned before the crash, and just happened to be in the area.

As the mother of a police officer, I can feel no sympathy for these five men. My son goes to work every day to serve the community. No person going about their work deserves not to go home again. I am so angry, so I’ll say no more.

Goot · 23/08/2026 12:08

This is absolutely horrific. We have to clamp down now before any more innocent people are killed. Two similar incidents in a few days.

Anyone caught speeding the wrong way down motorway/A road = life in prison. If that individual is a teen living with their parent/s = 20 years prison for parents, any remaining minor children removed from the home, home given to govt, along with any assets. Anyone posting a tik tok or similar of it = 20 years prison, all assets given to govt.

Of course, it won’t happen and more innocent people will die at random. Shit UK.

It feels a bit like the IRA bombings of shopping centres in the 80s. Random innocent people including children killed.

What a weird comparison. The IRA aimed at property and a warning was given, so people could be evacuated from the building. Of course that often went pear shape and people were killed. These kids don’t give a shit. There is no warning.

What a horrific waste of life.

Anyone doing such an immature social media trend is absolute pondlife in my book. Running the risk of taking out innocent bystanders through their own stupid actions in the process is totally inexcusable. Some air heads simply don't consider this thought process.

If it is confirmed that it is linked to a stupid trend, then I hope the pondlife's families have the decency to not try to pin the blame upon the police pursuit and make a financial claim for damages.

Why is it allowed in Til Tok, shouldn't someone be addressing that.
Im not in til Tok but I've never heard anything good about it.

They don't promote doing good. How's it allowed though to be in there if anyone knows?

Law abiding, tax paying, decent members of society, working, studying, living crime free lives are ALL deeply criticising and condemning the way such reprobates are running amok with it seems no consequences under the law.

Anyone who has different views is either one of their number, or is a bleeding heart that never has to have the misfortune of contending with these people.

The Minister is ultimately responsible for the safety of all of us, his policy is operated by the Gardai. So he and the Garda Commissioner actually SHOULD represent our interests. People are sick and tired of all this. Maybe this is the watershed moment. We shall see.

Why is that frightening? The overwhelming majority of people have no sympathy for the 5 baby-faced yobs who caused this crash.

My sympathies go to the two brave police officers that were senselessly killed and their families.
