Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

1000 replies

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

If the five teenagers had survived but then received custodial sentences, they would probably be released early in a few years time, potentially like the killers of poor PC Andrew Harper.

I have no sympathy with these morons nor the families that created them.

The Mum of the 18 year old baby is gettong threats made at the baby, which is truly awful, I wonder where this comes from - perhaps he was the driver and is being blamed for the other 4 and is why disorder and Section 60 last night?

As much as I remind myself that the other 4 could have been telling the driver to stop, I feel they probably day to day egg each other on. As Mumsnet says, FAFO

XX getting my house smashed up from ya nutty ward over a boy that can’t defend himself if I want to post MY BABYS DAD I WILL get back to ur 14 year old girlfriend XX XX saying ur getting a ONE YEAR OLD BABY KICKED ALL OVECER OVER HIS DAD funnt hiw u have waited for the day hiw dad can’t defend him

..This is normal behaviour for them.

Everything is amplified 0-100 as nobody has learned Critical Thinking skills, how to manage emotion, or how to behave like an Adult. They are pandered to be a media (Social and Mainsteam) who wear being thick as a Badge of Honour. Education is seen as “elite” and therefore bad.

You can’t point out that being uneducated is generally a bad thing. Just watch any episode of “house of games” to see the degeneration of Education in this country .. basic Maths, History and Geography questions sit unanswered (I saw one where nobody knew where Germany was, and that Queen Victoria was around in the 1950s)

Those two on Gogglebox who get people saying “awww” as they don’t know the basics in life.

How can we ever grown the country and grown the economy, when we won’t challenge “thickness”

Unfortunately one of the fuckers had already procreated and his son now being dragged up by an illiterate teenager. He has no chance.

I've seen the photos of some of the VW occupants. I see that they are all making that stupid gesture with their hands- you know - the one that tells you that you are probably looking at a photo of a recently deceased young man.

I hope the police have rich pickings at the funerals of these folks - they should have live facial recognition and plenty of transport at the ready.

Social media didn't create joy riding. Joy riding has been around for way longer than social media.

But it didn't generally involve driving the wrong way down major roads ending in multiple fatalities. It was just driving around a bit then dumping the car. And cars are bigger and more powerful now, so if you hit something at speed you're going to do a lot more damage.

I remember hearing the late Henry Cooper talking about boxing as a sport for boys. He said yes it involves them hitting each other, but young males are naturally aggressive and it's better to work it off under supervision in a gym than have them beating each other up on street corners.

And in his day the boxing gyms and clubs were in the working class communities, in pubs or wherever, rather than in big leisure centres somewhere else, so it was easier to get the boys in. (And in Our 'Enry's day most of the coaches were likely to have seen military service so they wouldn't tolerate any nonsense.)

Yes absolutely we have bigger roads and cars now.
So the stakes are higher and as I was saying getting likes and glory on SM definitely intensifies the thrill.

The Two Norries podcast was a really interesting listen to get an insight into the role models young boys look up to in disadvantaged areas.
These two men hit rock bottom and turned their lives around after serious addiction. Very interesting to hear. I live in a "disadvantaged" area now but I wasn't brought up here.
It still boggles my mind a bit how different values are.
It's a vicious vicious cycle.

Which I'm compassionate to.....but also ..these cases really test that compassion.

I'd be so ashamed if my child caused devastation like this.

Makai Saddington is the one has a one year old child albeit I wouldn’t be astonished if more of this group were ‘fathers’ too. In the loosest interpretation of the word.

I’ve seen a post from two years ago where his mum is displaying a scan picture saying ‘she couldn’t be happier’ and is ‘so proud’ of her 16 year old son who’s got someone pregnant

Shame it didn’t make him grow the fuck up. Why was he not at home looking after his child? Presumably that’s his baby mum’s job 🙄

Ugh.

This made me heave.

MidnightPatrol · 23/08/2026 10:39

In Ireland we don't permit under 18s to be put in an adult prison since 2001 and we have exactly 46 secure places for under 18s to be confined in the Country (though it never operates at capacity due to not being able to get staff to work there because it is so violent). That is the only capacity to imprison anyone under 18. This is completely reserved for the most violent offenders. If you think this has to include teenagers up to 18 years old and what they are capable of, then you can see that any offence other than very serious violence, is not going to get any imprisonment. And that's the case in reality. Of the 5 killed last week they averaged around 40 convictions each, but never spent a day confined because bulgary and steeling cars just doesn't meet our threshold for imprisonment for under 18s. So you get convicted 40 times with no consequences other than meeting a juvenile liason officer, what message does that send to you. Carry on as usual. Until eventually something catastrophic happens.

It’s crazy. Children in the 60’s and 70’s went to jail for robbing soda. The young offenders institution is at 175% capacity.
We need to build more prisons. Woke is no longer cutting it, there is no rehabilitation or deterrent, community services. Ireland like the UK has too many criminals in not enough prison space, early release schemes and suspended sentences is the way at the moment.

There’s no need to speculate. There are no mitigating circumstances for driving at speed the wrong way on a motorway.

They shouldn't be driving on the wrong side of a motorway at ANY speed.

Puffinsandcoffee · 23/08/2026 10:44

ownedbymydogs · 23/08/2026 09:02

I think this is the nub of it. @Puffinsandcoffee may be genuine (but I have my suspicions), but unfortunately simply sounds like they have just written an A level essay on Social Identity Theory and is bursting to tell us of their knowledge.

Like I have already said, this thread, on this morning, is probably not the place for that.

I am genuine, and my views on this subject don't come from anything I learnt at school. I'm from a minority community myself. I've never heard of "Social Identity Theory" (not sure if I've missed your point/ if that was a joke). I really am genuine, and what I've read on the thread makes it, in my view, very much the place to give a different perspective on minority cultures. Especially as it turns out the boys aren't even travellers.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 23/08/2026 10:45

OneHangryGoldDeer · 23/08/2026 09:57

Paris Fury, probably the best known self-proclaimed representative for Irish Travellers proudly states her DC are pulled out of school at year 8 as 'it's the traveller way'.

She says they then have home tutors which may or may not be true but she fails to acknowledge that for the traveller community who aren't DC of multimillionaire public figures, home tutors are simply not an option.

Same as proudly waving off her DD to be married at 16 and live in a caravan with a barely literate teenage husband as it's the 'traveller way, and she's really mature'. Her DD will have the option of leaving and moving back into the mansion with her multimillionaire parents which the rest of the traveller girls married as teenagers just don't have.

I know the traveller site Paris was brought up on in Doncaster. It's a shit-hole which elevates local crime rates. Some traveller sites are okay, this one is not.

I think Tyson Fury put it quite well in a clip I saw where Paris was extolling the virtues of maintaining traveller culture and he said 'you've lived like a premier football WAG for 20 years, WTF are you on about?'.

I used to teach literacy to Irish travellers in a YOI. There were whole families of cousins and brothers in there. They absolutely think the norms of society don't apply to them. They had never gone to school which was why they couldn't read. Even so, they were reading within a couple of weeks with one to one tuition.

MandingoAteMyBaby · 23/08/2026 10:45

Metalmotha · 23/08/2026 09:42

But it’s part of an ideology isn’t it? Why do they have low levels of literacy in a society with free education for all? Where there’s so much help? Is it because of the rejection of society’s ideals, rejection of their institutions? Rejection of the discipline required to learn. A lack of parental support of the child to make themselves into the best version of themselves to be the most use to society? Ultimately a rejection of the larger society itself.

We need to stop pandering to “communities” if you live in this country, abide by its laws, morals and values. Teach your kids how to become the most useful members of that society. We need to stop pussyfooting around. Kids need disciple. They need boundaries. Yesterday I encountered a group wandering across Dartmoor blaring our music. It’s not the first time. And it’s never a bunch of kids doing their DofE..I thought about saying something them thought twice as I was isolated on my own. And knew Id prob be accused of racism.

Unfortunately people seem to leave school with very little knowledge of even their own country’s history. I was talking to a couple of people in their early 30’s recently. Both reasonably good jobs. The subject of church/religion in England came up and they’d never heard of the Reformation!

JudgeJ · 23/08/2026 10:52

“You are racist.” Shuts down all discussion. And is one of the main reasons we are all too terrified to say anything, or authorities to do anything.

It's the shut-down across the board and is used far too often.

hairbearbunches · 23/08/2026 10:53

Puffinsandcoffee · 23/08/2026 09:04

No - no, not at all! That's not at all what I meant. Of course I don't think the police officers were at fault.

I was talking about the problems between travellers and non-travellers more generally (on the assumption, which seems to be running through the whole thread, that the boys were travellers). I was saying that I think the tensions between travellers and non-travellers emerge from attitudes and behaviours from both sides. Travellers aren't just victims, but non-travellers have attitudes that don't help build bridges either.

Culture cannot be allowed to trump the law. And with this group of people, (and other ethnic minority groups) it has been allowed with bells on. There should be zero tolerance to any ‘cultural’ practice which sits outside our defined and settled legal framework. If you can’t abide by these rules, fuck off and live somewhere else is the message that should have been rammed home. And instead we’ve had decades of hand wringing so called ‘progressive’ appeasement that has ruined the country.

And I say that as someone who identifies as left wing.

edited for a typo.

Nope. It’s a toe rag thing. As an example the lucky dip gang in Ireland is made up of 70% settled and 30% traveller, from run down estates, the boys wearing Canada goose jackets, scooters and face masks, these groups have merged, they started off just stealing items from cars that were left open or your garden (lucky dip) before moving onto houses that cars.
It is people whose parents never had a job gang.
Most have been in and out of care.
Social welfare payments are a curse too, if they had to go out searching for food and wood to heat the house they’d soon look for a job.

That young lass sounds vulnerable to me. Her Facebook is open and it seems like her parents both died, she had the baby at 16 and heart of gold Makai hadn’t seen the baby in months and was slated her to anyone who’d care to listen

Name changed. I’ve spent the last few months working with a young man who moves in the same circles of this group. Being honest, I’m still waiting to see if he was in the car. This is a cohort of society with poor role modelling, lack of parenting, drug use and knife possession. This isn’t just recent failures, it’s from day one and multiple professional interventions.

Do you know for sure if they were travellers?

CandidLurker · 23/08/2026 10:59

The Irish public have definitely had enough reading some of their comments online. And the funerals of 5 young men have drawn lots of negative comment. It made me question don’t parish priests in Ireland (or here for that matter) set any limits around what is acceptable at a funeral at a church?
