I have a trans cat

My dog thinks he's a cat. Obviously, biologically he isn't a cat, but he thinks he is (should I gently tell him? Will he grow out of this?) I'm thinking of giving him a cat name as affirmation that I understand want he wants inside. He was born into the wrong body.

When people describe their cats, he fits all the stereotypes, he chases birds, mice and butterflies. He loves a scratch pole. He chases balls of wool. He is completely untrainable. He sneers when given instructions, he's the boss of his empire. He comes in and out as he pleases.

He has excessive sleeping, he scent-marks objects or people by rubbing, kneading with paws, (he does this if he wants picking up) and he has short bursts of frantic running. He's nothing like a dog. He thinks he's a cat, he behaves like a cat, therfore he is?

He's an independent sole, a predator and returns with presents for me, usually insects.

I should tell everyone to start calling him a cat. AIBU?

Your trans cat would get on really well with my late Dsis’s trans dog. He has never seen himself as a cat despite growing up with two cis cats. He almost passes but is struggling with his voice. Once he gets the hang of barking he’ll be fine, he does have a pretty good growl and has trained himself to wag rather than waft his tail. He also snores and farts in a canine fashion, mainly due to his diverse diet, he could well be a very convincing Labrador.

Of course I haven't. Why should I have done so?

@RelaxAndDetox You and your cat are no doubt much happier now he's shrugged off the last vestiges of his old dog life and embraced his true catself

My dog Rufus was a pedigree Affenpinscher, but is now a gorgeous cat of unknown parentage who calls herself "Gloria the Magnificient who must be worshipped at all times".

She is adapting so well having had to come to terms with the fact he was a she, and a cat not a dog. Luckily the fact I had Rufus' balls cut off at 6 months helped with the boy to girl transition and lots of oily fish helped the silky cat coat come through. Admittedly trying to get the number of fish right was difficult and some of the side effects whilst disgustingly smelly were thankfully shortlived.

She has recently reached a personal cat milestone and caught herself a mouse.

I am very proud of her.

TRAs send rape threats and death threats. They call us bigots, nazis and terfs. They turn up at demos with placards that have violent slogans like "decapitate TERFs" (Jan 2023) and "The only good TERF is a (hanged) TERF" (April 2025). They attack unarmed women (eg the 71 year old woman who was repeatedly punched in the head by a 20 year old man in New Zealand).

We, on the other hand, just take the piss out of the nonsense.

You seem to think that being trans is synonymous with what you call “TRAs”, which is in turn synonymous with a person who makes rape and death threats.

You really can't tell can you. Your cat totally passes and no photo shop either. Just shows what a supportive owner can facilitate, although, now them's a cat I suppose you're staff now.

Not among the people I have conversations with. I have genuinely never heard it suggested before.

There was some very well crafted hair clipping carried out. Cost a fortune but so worth it as it really helped to bring out her feline essence. The groomer, thankfully skilled in both dog and cat grooming, did wonders around the ear area. Add in some hair product and industrial strength hair spray and voila cat ears where previously only very dog looking ears once sat.

She is enjoying making me follow her commands these days!

It’s possible to be gender critical and not resort to pseudo-satire to mock trans people. The existence of TRAs or autogynaephiliacs doesn’t mean you should make sweeping statements and analogies that are savage to the majority of trans people, many of whom might be struggling. This could be your child. The self-congratulatory callousness on this thread is depressing, though I only made it one page.

Hmm, not necessarily? Just knowing his felines about it might be enough for him. That should be enough for anybody else to accept him as a true cat.

Indeed! Why is it always about the modifications? A trans cat is a cat before surgery and after surgery. Why should they have to modify their body to comply with society's stereotypes of what a cat looks like? It's so bigoted.

A trans cat is a cat because they feel like a cat and that should be sufficient.
