I have a trans cat

My dog thinks he's a cat. Obviously, biologically he isn't a cat, but he thinks he is (should I gently tell him? Will he grow out of this?) I'm thinking of giving him a cat name as affirmation that I understand want he wants inside. He was born into the wrong body.

When people describe their cats, he fits all the stereotypes, he chases birds, mice and butterflies. He loves a scratch pole. He chases balls of wool. He is completely untrainable. He sneers when given instructions, he's the boss of his empire. He comes in and out as he pleases.

He has excessive sleeping, he scent-marks objects or people by rubbing, kneading with paws, (he does this if he wants picking up) and he has short bursts of frantic running. He's nothing like a dog. He thinks he's a cat, he behaves like a cat, therfore he is?

He's an independent sole, a predator and returns with presents for me, usually insects.

I should tell everyone to start calling him a cat. AIBU?

I agree with everything you say, apart from the 'weird' word. There is nothing weird in Tom's behaviour or in the behaviour of your cat. They are merely in the wrong body. You need to stop marginalizing these cats by framing a normal cat variation as abnormal or unacceptable, it really isn't.

Cis cats need to get over themselves and accept him or else. Why can't they just be kind and let him live his true identity.

Unfortunately, the waiting list is so long at the vets, he'll be dead by the time he reaches the top of CAMHS - for those unaware that's the Cats and Adolescent cats, Mental Health Services. Dreadfully underfunded and short staffed.

Of course he is a cat, he says he is and therefore he is. Not all trans swap sex, many go gender neutral or use one of over 150 different terms to identify, you probably haven't kept up to date and not heard of that or of furries? He's a cat, stop mis identifying him. You are very cruel.

'Trans' means changing or transformation into. Well he is transforming into a cat because he was born in the wrong body. I hope that helps with your understanding.

Try to get them to move away from debate and focus instead on shared values, active listening, and calm, personal storytelling.

My Tom loves that he's a true cat, he understands their love of sleeping, chasing things, just because he looks a little bit different shouldn't scare them, he really wouldn't hurt them, he is after all just the same as them inside.

I don’t think Tom is suitable. It is too plain and could be a dog or even a human. “Tiddles” would be more appropriate. Then everyone will know that Tiddles is definitely a cat.

I haven't got a,cat but the neighbours cat is very friendly and therefore my cat friend.

No he's never shown any sign of dog type behaviour. From very young he preferred to play with typical cat toys and chase wool and insects.
