I have a trans cat

My dog thinks he's a cat. Obviously, biologically he isn't a cat, but he thinks he is (should I gently tell him? Will he grow out of this?) I'm thinking of giving him a cat name as affirmation that I understand want he wants inside. He was born into the wrong body.

When people describe their cats, he fits all the stereotypes, he chases birds, mice and butterflies. He loves a scratch pole. He chases balls of wool. He is completely untrainable. He sneers when given instructions, he's the boss of his empire. He comes in and out as he pleases.

He has excessive sleeping, he scent-marks objects or people by rubbing, kneading with paws, (he does this if he wants picking up) and he has short bursts of frantic running. He's nothing like a dog. He thinks he's a cat, he behaves like a cat, therfore he is?

He's an independent sole, a predator and returns with presents for me, usually insects.

I should tell everyone to start calling him a cat. AIBU?

That would be very outing for him. Its still not accepted that he identifies as a cat (is a cat) and those bloody cis cats can be very unkind

It isn't your cat's choice to be a cat. It isn't something he has decided. He has always been a cat (albeit one that was born in a dog's body) and he has now realised who he truly is.

Given trans cats are cats I’m pretty sure this is the solution to my intolerance of dog dander.

I’m just concerned about being able to identify that my cat is in fact a trans cat given nobody could possibly tell otherwise and even if they theoretically could then all their records would have been changed….what a dilemma…..

I feel your pain, OP. I went out to water my lime tree yesterday for the first time in a while and found it had turned into a lemon tree almost overnight. Literally gave us limes last year and is now giving us lemons. Quite a shock all round, including, I imagine, for the tree itself!

I think that rather than encouraging your dog to embrace arbitrary, archaic, and external stereotypes of felinity, you should consider supporting him in expanding the boundaries of what it means to be canine. Why should a catnip mouse, a bowl of milk, or a scratching post be for cats only? Why do we as a species side-eye dogs who want nothing more than to meow piteously to be let inside and then run you over seconds later in the rush to get back outside or sleep all day and race around like a lunatic during the crepuscular hours or lie obstructively on their human's feet when said human is trying to go somewhere? The world is full of former would-be tomkittens who've grown up into well-adjusted adult dogs just because they didn't have tumblr or reddit and so no one ever told them there was another option. Why not one more? 🐶💗🐩

Tricky isn't it! My former dog displayed the behaviour of a cat, walked like a cat and played with cat toys so they was obviously a cat. You'd never know. The only individuals bothered are annoying bigot cis cats.

Conversion to biological reality rather than affirmation of what they truly feel they are inside. Was born in the wrong body, would be cruel to suggest body isn't wrong if they feel it is. Thought…maybe if I can source a terfy cis cat they just might be able through the power of bigotry to identify a trans cat for me to own, thus offering the solution to my dog dander allergies.

I think the real test will be if he likes hiding in cardboard boxes poking his paws out. If he does that then he’s definitely a trans cat.
