Having suffered the umpteenth browser memory failure of the day and reached meltdown point with pages jumping all over the place due to my ad blocker - I've subscribed 🥳 Thirty quid a year for a seamless Mumsnet experience.

I've only been a subscriber for 20 minutes or so, and my stress level has already halved! It's cheaper than Netflix, and I spend more time on here tbh.

Didn't loads of MN women donate money to fund Maya Forstater's (successful) legal case for unfair dismissal for saying that changing sex is impossible? That was legally a big deal.

Many many women and MN users don’t agree with the FWR posters views or bullying. They do not speak for all women or all MN users.

MN has no courage. It stands out as a forum that blatantly allows bullying and abelism particularly towards women and children who have autism and adhd, alongside those that are on benefits and people of colour. It does not moderate threads but leaves vulnerable MNers to do it for them. Time and again posters have complained about this but still they do nothing.Look at the Jason Ardey threads. How are they still running? He hasn’t even had a funeral yet. If it was somebody white or NT one wonders if they’d be allowed to distastefully stand. MN used to be a safe space for all mothers:- disabled mothers, autistic mothers, mothers on benefits, black mothers and even shock horror mothers of trans children who like mothers of autistic children are now regularly told they’re abusers by bullies. MN it no longer a safe space for all mothers the way that it was or indeed anybody with any vulnerability or minority.

The reason for the deeply unpleasant way MN has changed and I’ve been here from the start is money, laziness, dreadfully poor moderation and weakness. There is nothing to canonise.

And are you on the payroll op? As it’s hugely suspicious that on the day somebody started a thread re how dire the site is as regards crashing with posters pointing out that those who enable MN to make money shouldn’t have to pay to be able to use it properly - you start this thread. 🤔

I think MN is great and is important to me. I’ve been on here for 23 years, same username if you want to check, and I’ve found it supportive, hilarious, annoying, heartbreaking etc. I am happy to pay my subscription

I know you've been here longer than me, @Davros! I love to see familiar usernames. I had to start changing mine as I was being harassed across the board and on other sites - not by the same people, I don't think, but I didn't want to make it easier. My real-world activism is under my own name and is much more low-key these days; I'm perhaps being over-cautious now.

It's a pity there are so many people looking to stomp on women with opinions but it's nothing new! Agree with all you said.

Another group of Mumsnetters have been through the policies and procedures of every hospital Trust in the country to check their policies on housing men in women's spaces. None were legal - you may be familiar with the rapes that have occured as a result of this.

There are lots of campaigns on here - official Mumsnet ones and informal members' ones. Women experiencing and escaping from DV have been helped. Just read the site more broadly and you can see this for yourself. And of course Classics and AIBU are often funny.

And that's down to me, I accept.

A goady poster asked why anyone would think of giving Mumsnet money when you can adblock for free. I replied I choose to pay because I value the platform Mumsnet have provided that allowed Gender Critical feminists to meet, exchange information and ideas and springboard campaigns that have a real life impact on women's lives.

Several others posted to say they agree.

On the same basis I often ate lunch a place in my city that - at the last minute - hosted a Fair Play For Women event when the city council pulled out of our room booking with an hour to go.

Do I think the pub singlehandedly saved women's rights? If course not, but they deserve my money for standing with us at a crisis point.

As does Mumsnet. They allowed the platform (with some fairly brutal moderating restrictions, I acknowledge) when everyone else was banning us or shutting us down.

I can't quite get my head around the idea that where a site is so badly done that it causes tech issues/overheating/difficulty in accessibility, but the solution - instead of making it usable for all - is apparently to offer a vaguely functional site in exchange for money and a crappy one for the vast majority of the product.

Well I won't be wasting my money. They're already stealing my data and I'm giving them content to monetise on a daily basis. I'm not also giving them cash!

If I have even unintentionally found myself on a thread in FWR I have always always left hurriedly as strikes me as just post after post after the same thing over and over again, and then someone joins, ruffles some feathers, lots of excitement and arguing ensues and then back to the same posts over and over again. Nothing achieved. Just lots of…. Posts repeating one another
