I should've coughed up for a Mumsnet subscription ages ago

Having suffered the umpteenth browser memory failure of the day and reached meltdown point with pages jumping all over the place due to my ad blocker - I've subscribed 🥳 Thirty quid a year for a seamless Mumsnet experience.

I've only been a subscriber for 20 minutes or so, and my stress level has already halved! It's cheaper than Netflix, and I spend more time on here tbh.

I did find an alternative. I subscribed 🤣

I mean, I've just been out for a coffee. It was £3.75 and I was there for an hour. I spend a fuck of a lot longer in here, and it works out at 8.3 pence a day.

Yes although it’s not as bad some of the YouTube channels, where you pay £3.99 per month to get access to some emojis and a badge 😳

I see subscribing to ad free , as the same as giving money to gofundmes , patreons and suchlike - it shows you have way too much money.

I have issues with the free version but not sure if that’s because I go through a browser and not the app ( whose layout I can’t get on with). The only thing that drives me mad is when the screen suddenly goes white while it’s loading ads. But I still won’t pay for any service to go ad free though.

Different strokes and all that. I do give money to fundraisers. I am definitely not well off - if I had to think about it, I'd say I value supporting things I believe in above ... well, getting my nails done or other bits other people spend their money on.

Are the people using ad blockers visiting on their phones? I used to use Adblock when I accessed Mumsnet via a laptop but didn’t know it was possible on a phone? I use chrome on an iPhone.

For as long as Alzheimer’s exists… I will be donating to that charity what I can spare.

just google and install

@ThisMachineWillNotCommunicate, on Android you have to switch to the Adblock browser (free on Play). I think there's a Safari plugin for Apple wonks.

And when it glitches, I bugger off f a bit until it's sorted out.

What left me with a very unpleasant feeling about Mn HQ was the debacle around Mumsnet Recommends products, where it was revealed they were using quotes from mumsnetters that were… complete BS

I use duckduckgo on my android phone. No issues whatsoever, and no ads. It's free, fantastic and once installed you don't need to think about it, just use it as you would a normal browser.
The flashy/jumpy ads give me migraines, so it was either block them or stop using the site as I wouldn't pay for something where the users are/ create the content.

You don't need to pay - just download AdBlock.

I love that you used getting nails done as the alternative , when it's another thing you literally don't have to spend money on , and can do yourself for free. You may as well said coffee shops 🤭.

I thought about it, but we're the product that is sold. People who post on Mumsnet are the ones who bring in the money for the site. I'm not paying to be a battery hen. Even if I'm a pretty crap chook because I dont start threads

Even if the pop up adverts are keeping me on in short bursts because they drive me nuts I'm still not at the addblocker stage.

I've never had that problem, ever. I use the app.

I didn't even know it was a thing. I use chrome and have never had a problem with ads getting in the way of anything, why is it so different? (Genuine question, I don't understand!)
