Having suffered the umpteenth browser memory failure of the day and reached meltdown point with pages jumping all over the place due to my ad blocker - I've subscribed 🥳 Thirty quid a year for a seamless Mumsnet experience.

I've only been a subscriber for 20 minutes or so, and my stress level has already halved! It's cheaper than Netflix, and I spend more time on here tbh.

Yes I subscribe because the ads made MN unusable on my old phone, I was constantly accidentally opening ads. And not enough storage memory to download an adblocker even if I'd wanted to.

Even with a newer phone with a much bigger memory I've carried on paying because I think if I use something I should pay for it. Like the BBC, I listen to the radio everyday so I pay for it.

I can't really get my head round people wanting everything for free, maybe it's how I was brought up?

Yeah, it's quite easy on the MN side but for some very dull tech reasons to do with forwarding and spam filters it's a bit of a faff on mine, so I haven't got round it it. The ads don't bother me that much, the main reason I signed up was to help MN have a revenue source that isn't vulnerable to pressure on advertisers.

I subscribe to several newspapers even few I generally dislike for the same reason.

The women from FWS met on Mumsnet. Discussion everywhere else was absolutely shut down - and even here it was very heavily moderated. @WendyHousedis absolutely right. I think it’s a small price to pay for freedom of speech and women’s rights.

This was ten years ago. I don't know if you were interested in discussing issues of gender identity and trans activism online ten years ago but Mumsnet in part made it possible.

Why? Like Rhinos, I think a revenue stream that isn't dependent on the whims of advertisers is a good thing.

I feel the same about paying my licence fee, because although there's a lot to dislike about current BBC culture there's a lot it gives back as well.

I don't worship at the altar of Mumsnet but I know that without this space for feminists to communicate, recent battles for women's rights would have been far harder. That's down to the amazing individual women of FWR not a profit-making company, but all credit to Mumsnet for providing a space for those women.

I'm assuming you're being disingenuous. On the slim chance you aren't, I will answer.

The rights enshrined in law by the Equality Act and workplace legislation that anti-woman activists have been misrepresenting and falsely 'advising' public bodies on for 10+ years. Stonewall and Mermaids have been particularly egregious.

Battles like those fought by Maya Forstater, Sonia Appleby, Allison Bailey, Jo Phoenix, For Women Scotland, Sandie Peggie, Darlington Nurses - do you need a longer list?

Women can't organise and resist if we're denied every platform. I'm just a bystander but I appreciate the forum that braver and smarter women used.

So yeah, on the topic of why pay for a subscription, I do it out of appreciation. The lack of ads is a bonus
