AIBU to be angry that my husband is unconcerned about women’s safety?

To be pissed off with my husband. I said how upset I am that the child abuse and rape leaflet from the government is judged as necessary and we are continuing to let these men into our country who pose a threat to women. He just shrugged - I said doesn’t it bother you these men are coming into our society. We have daughters , I am a woman. I absolutely do not feel safe anymore where we live and would not walk on my own anymore. He said no not really. Absolutely furious with him. Does he not have to care as he’s a big tall man? I’m so pissed off, I’ve walked off and he’s given me the ick.

The very fact that we have to use other country's data to know the statistics, is, in itself, terrifying.

Agree, disgusting how this government wants to keep crucial data from us. You can see why their voters are sucking up the must be racist trick. Still no evidence as to where anyone has been racist on the thread.

angelos02 · 22/08/2026 08:47

If there is no evidence that people from certain cultures are more of a risk, then just release the data. Pretty simple wouldn't you think!

Our culture is very different to India too. How do you think the health and care sector would look in the UK without any Indian doctors/nurses/care workers?

The care sector would have put its wages up if we stopped exploiting overseas staff, as it would become a more attractive job to UK staff.

angelos02 · 22/08/2026 08:50

We shouldn't be importing people from anywhere - we have a highly educated and large population of our own. No excuse. We've known for decades that we need doctors etc.

Well David Lammy never was the brightest. How desperate is the situation when court action is being taken to prevent those stats. getting into the public domain? Everything now is being shaped by race. It's being rammed down our throats.

Hi @Peedoffdoesntcutit

Having Read Invisable women by Caroline Carado Perez. I instigated a conversaton wih a group of male friends. dad's.brother's .husbands and partners and I was truley shocked how little of a shit they gave about any aspect of womens saftey or issues so your husbands response if of no suprise.

The only way we will ever be bothered is when it efects us directley it seems. Male rape is on the rise. It is either improved reporting or its genuinley going up which is intresting in the context of the leaflet which I have not read yet.

When your husband feels unsafe on his way home only then will he truley get it which is so sad and I think you have every right to feel the way you do about him.

Patriarchy relies on the average man being largely unbothered by sexism and VAGW.

Sartre · 22/08/2026 08:55

Men you enter into romantic relations with are a far bigger risk than random strangers in the street. Random attacks obviously can and do happen but they are and always have been vanishingly rare. You are at the most risk from male relations or partners.

Wishing14 · 22/08/2026 08:55

The legal and hard working Black immigrant is racist for feeling unsafe around large amounts of unvetted men coming to the country who don’t share our common values? Well I suppose the lesson here is to never bat an eyelid when someone shouts ‘racist’ to your own logical thoughts on the subject!

There are plenty of anti racist/AIBU to ditch my 'far' right friends - are those campaigns as well. Quit the personal attacks as well.

Don't understand "criminal record anyone". What do you mean, that debating and issue about criminality means you must be a criminal? If so, is ridiculous.

I took it to mean that if someone shows up in a boat, we have no idea who they are, what they have been up to in their home country, whether they are fleeing persecution or if they were perpetrators, criminals, rapists etc.

Sereine · 22/08/2026 09:01

The government is making significant inroads into the number of illegal immigrants getting in, and also in terms of deporting those already here. You're wrong to say it's doing nothing about this.

Happily say I’m culturist- we have a safe culture for women and women are seen as equal. Women here are respected.

He wouldn’t think I’m racist as we are black and are legal immigrants who work hard and are high paying tax payers.

Do we live in the same country? I work with DV survivors and child abuse survivors regularly and the vast majority of their perpetrators are British. Reckon they could do with that leaflet being sent to all British people as well.

Women minimising fellow women's worries about men. There's always something quite sinister about it. Sad, apologetic and appeasing but really quite frightening.

Not sure why it happens on mn this much.

Most of it's funded by the local authority so I wouldn't have any faith in the wages increasing, they'd sit back and watch it crumble and be glad of the savings they make whilst people are waiting longer to find care. I work for a Reform council and they already pull out all the stops to delay and reduce the care people receive so they can make savings.

Are these leaflets going in to schools?

They don’t need to directly.

Consent etc is already covered in the curriculum.

So our children get the education at school and the people claiming asylum haven’t had it so get it on arrival.

Unfortunately there will always be be some men who receive this education who will rape anyway.

I think the lack of prosecutions doesn’t help here as the deterrent isn’t anyway high enough.

InconsiderateBoyf · 22/08/2026 09:24

Bogliasco · 21/08/2026 20:08

There's plenty of White British men raping women so perhaps this leaflet could be posted to all UK men to remind them not to rape because lord knows they need it.

This.

Rapists are husbands, fathers, teachers, policemen, firemen etc.

Unfortunately the problem is societal as a whole.

I try to focus on the fact it's Not all men, so we don't turn into a man hating society... but I read posts on here where men haven't stood up for women against other creepy men and therein lies part of the problem.

Men need to protect. Not rape.

Lots more fellaz knocking around here is one answer. Internalized misogyny is another.

I am dismayed at this thread. Insulting the OP, minimising the issue, shutting down.

Yes, women must SHUT UP and PUT UP because thousands of undocumented largely uneducated men from countries with poor attitudes towards women present no threat at all . Just give them a leaflet (not that they need it, posters hasten to add) and any “cultural misunderstandings” are instantly cleared up! Let us welcome hundreds of thousands more men, you racist bigots!

Black people can be racist too

Love this!! I have a friend who is muslim and didn't think she was racist when referring to a Chinese man as Chinky. I called her out on it and she went so red. She just didn't think herself as racist 🤣

PrincessofWills · 22/08/2026 09:43

WorkHardPlay · 22/08/2026 01:05

But no one suggested that. They did suggest that the UK has a culture where women are legally protected (whether or not people choose to follow those laws) - and it is clear in comparison by Country, and comparison of per capita data, that yes - our culture is far safer for women in comparison.

Would I feel more unsafe if there was a group of undocumented Afghan men waiting outside a nightclub vs a group of British men … yes, and the statistics show why.

The statistics show that if you attend that nightclub with your partner, he's the one most likely to kill you.

Is it not incase vigilantes attack everyone from that background if the data came out? Could it not cause a lot of other issues?

No. The Pakistani grooming gangs were convicted so no one was let off.

Also, in the olden days they were called paedophile rings and they were made up of white men.

These guys look pretty white to me. And they raped 2 year olds. So yes. White men clearly need to hear this message too.

BBC News - Paedophile ring jailed for 'terrifying depravity' - BBC News
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-34219235

They haven’t all been convicted by any means.🤷‍♀️

There was a three part documentary on last week - Groomed/Channel 4, telling the story of what happened when children/young girls in Barrow in Furness tried to report what was going on.

One young girl was actually jailed, and is still forbidden from speaking to media. 🙄

dizzydizzydizzy · 22/08/2026 10:07

While I have some sympathy with you - men often do not understand the risks that we as women routinely face - I also I think you are making a lot of assumptions. The government producing the leaflet doesn’t automatically mean that they think these men are a particular risk.
