The weather has changed for my holiday

Due to holiday in the south of France next week, and all along the long range forecast has been beautiful.

Now it’s changed. Rain every fucking day apart from the day I leave. I have to unpack all the beautiful dresses and clothes I’ve packed and change them out for rain jackets and boots. I’m fuming, I actually can’t believe it. It’s just my luck!

AIBU to just not want to go? I was due to do so many lovely day trips and now they’ll just be awful - damp and grey, any pictures I take will look awful. I just can’t believe it

It’s more the fact when it’s grey and pissing it down, there won’t be a sunrise due to the clouds?

Yeah I know. I saw your other posts.

WhisperingAngelisnotbad · 21/08/2026 11:21

A wild fire would be a lot worse, n'est pas?

AnonyMumAuDHD · 21/08/2026 11:22

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:29

Oh yeah, that’ll look nice on social media!

JFC - the holiday is for a break away and a chance to see new things, explore a different location’s history and culture, and eat local foods. NOT social media for a load of gawping fuckwits you don’t know. FFS grow up.

I suggest you cancel and spend the money on therapy.

clary · 21/08/2026 11:22

@youcantmakethisup I'm another one not sure why you keep talking about it "pissing rain" all day. I looked up Menton on BBC weather which I find pretty reliable and there is only one day in the next fortnight when there are showers forecast.

Even the forecast you screenshotted only talks about "a little rain". I highly doubt it will be pouring with rain all day, every day tbh.

Also your comment about wildfires is immature and thoughtless. I wonder if you are young? Tho tbh even my 23yo knows that wildfires are a major and serious concern this summer.

Reading the whole thread I am also wondering if it is real. Surely no one could be this shallow and obstinate?

TheMimsy · 21/08/2026 11:22

I’m off there on Tuesday and travelling around Normandy and down to the south of France.

I’m so glad such a negative attitude won’t be around.

It’s around a 50% chance of rain. I’m layering up my summer dresses with a soft cardigan and fancy joules raincoat. I’m eating in amazing French restaurants, visiting beautiful cultural museums, galleries and mansions. I’m catching the good weather when I can. The markets. The coast.

it’s not rain 💯 24/7. the weather forecast might change.

But you crack on and stay away. I can’t imagine what you’d behave like as a tourist but this show of your personality on here makes me imagine what kind of personality you present to Tiktok

PotolKimchi · 21/08/2026 11:22

@youcantmakethisup You can have a good time in the rain. Partly because it won't rain constantly and because there are other activities you can do. You can't get aesthetic photos for work in the rain. Those two are not the same.
And just like all of us with normal 9-5 jobs, a bit of separation between your 'leisure' and your 'work' will give you some perspective.

Also given the loss of wildlife and people to repeatedly say you don't care about the environment while being a 'travel' TikTok-er is quite shortsighted and frankly a little gross. Since the environment is literally the backdrop for your 'work' and how you intend to make money, one would think you would have some concern for it.

Enigma54 · 21/08/2026 11:22

🎤🎶It’s raining men, hallelujah, it’s raining men.. ( sorry OP, couldn’t resist!! 😆)
Seriously, you will enjoy your holiday, despite the rain. You have to, now you’ve forked out so much money, surely?

Knickerbockermisery · 21/08/2026 11:23

Whaleandsnail6 · 21/08/2026 11:10

See, I get ops upset with the sunrise swim. When you have an image of a lovely blue sky for sunrise and its just grey and cloudy.

I do get the disappointment, but you either make the best of it and carry on or don't go

I've never had a terrible time due to weather, but I can't lie, there have been trips where it would have been better if the weather was sunny/clear and dry

Yeah sure, but she can't possibly actually know that it will be raining every minute of the day. And if you've never gone swimming outdoors in the rain, you're missing out in life.

But OP seems only concerned about the optics to everyone else than actually having a nice holiday so she's never really having a good time anyway. Not unless it fits the aesthetic of her Instagram grid.

MrsPapillon · 21/08/2026 11:23

We go to the South of France every September. It doesn’t rain all day every day. If you check the app you’ll see it’s often from midnight-6am, or there’ll be a little shower in the afternoon. You might get an odd day that’s a write off but it won’t be for the entire holiday. And the sun will be cracking the flags in between.

Given the fires they’ve had, some rain will be very welcome!

CoffeeAndACroissant · 21/08/2026 11:23

Sounds like you are living your physical life purely to provide content for your virtual life.

Maybe it's time to have a real think about what is really important in life...

chaos76 · 21/08/2026 11:23

If making travel videos is your job then you need to always have a plan b !

People will be more interested in real life tips what to do in theses places as an alternative when the weather is not sunbathing weather, it will make you different and more appealing.

the weather photos you post only says light rain and in total over those 4 days its less than 4cms of rain that’s not pissing it down !! that’s sun showers that clear up

and Saturday now says no rain in nice

if you go through life thinking so aggressively negative you are going to do you self no favours

hope you manage to have a good holiday albeit a working one by the sounds of it

JehovasFitness · 21/08/2026 11:23

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:59

Genuinely who wants to watch videos of trudging about in the rain?

Who wants to watch videos of you walking around in the sun? Very few people.

This all seems to be a tantrum because you can’t show off online and get the desired amount of skin damage (which you can anyway because it’s only going to drizzle a little bit).

Yetanothername3 · 21/08/2026 11:24

I do not think travel insurance pays out for holidays cancelled due to the risk of rain, does it?

Balloonhearts · 21/08/2026 11:24

And I couldn't have happened to a nicer person...

Fiftyandme · 21/08/2026 11:24

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:38

Yeah grey shitty weather looks sooooo good

Photographer here - you couldn’t be more wrong

gannett · 21/08/2026 11:24

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 11:19

I’m not going on holiday to gorge on food. I’m trying to have a good time, which isn’t possible in the rain.

Eating French food in France is the definition of a good time. No travel expert worth their salt would even think the sentence you typed.

LeastOfMyWorries · 21/08/2026 11:25

One of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on here. The forecast says things like "some showers in the afternoon" for goodness sake- Stop swearing, pull your big girl pants up and go and have a good holiday. Or stop whining and gift it to someone who might appreciate it?

BigGra · 21/08/2026 11:25

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:59

Genuinely who wants to watch videos of trudging about in the rain?

I do. Can you share your TikTok account, I’d love to follow ❤️

DeftGoldHedgehog · 21/08/2026 11:26

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 21/08/2026 11:15

@DeftGoldHedgehog

From my friend Google:

In the UK, meteorological autumn starts on 1 September 2026. Astronomical autumn starts on 23 September 2026 at 1:05 am BST during the Autumnal Equinox.

Meteorological Autumn
Starts on 1 September 2026.
Based on the annual temperature cycle.
Divides the year into clean three-month blocks.
Always runs through September, October, and November.

Astronomical Autumn
Starts on 23 September 2026.
Marked by the Autumn Equinox.
Based on the position of Earth relative to the sun.
Day and night reach equal length.

Ah I see. I go with the astronomical one, count it from the equinox.

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:29

Oh yeah, that’ll look nice on social media!

I can why it’s a worry. No need to enjoy something, just focus on how it will look on your social media 👍

user1471600850 · 21/08/2026 11:26

Where are you going because Nice the forecast is 30 degrees with less than 5 - 20% chance of rain for next week according to the Met Office?

Fiftyandme · 21/08/2026 11:26

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 11:19

I’m not going on holiday to gorge on food. I’m trying to have a good time, which isn’t possible in the rain.

You’re worse than a moody 14 year old. Are you like this with every single perceived bump on the road you encounter? If you are, you’re going to have a really hard time for the rest of your life (and alienate those around you)

DontBuyAnotherBook · 21/08/2026 11:27

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:29

There’s no point going out, I won’t be able to get any nice pictures, just trudging about in the pouring rain.

Would you rather be in 40c all day? Hopefully it won't be all the time but you just have to make the most of it.

Happyjoe · 21/08/2026 11:27

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 11:08

I genuinely do not care. That is not my issue.

Me me me me me me me me me me me.

fivepastmidnight · 21/08/2026 11:27

Yeah don't go cancel it and lose your money. The weather forecast is always 100 percent accurate. I'm sure there's literally nothing you can do when it's raining. I'd hate to be the person going with you, if you're not going alone because it sounds like you're determined to be miserable. Stay at home .
