The weather has changed for my holiday

Due to holiday in the south of France next week, and all along the long range forecast has been beautiful.

Now it’s changed. Rain every fucking day apart from the day I leave. I have to unpack all the beautiful dresses and clothes I’ve packed and change them out for rain jackets and boots. I’m fuming, I actually can’t believe it. It’s just my luck!

AIBU to just not want to go? I was due to do so many lovely day trips and now they’ll just be awful - damp and grey, any pictures I take will look awful. I just can’t believe it

That is awful luck. But… You’re not stuck at home in the rain - you’re on holiday! It could be worse. I hope you have a good time regardless.

I’m not going to be able to go out and do the day trips, it’s raining every day. I’m so gutted

It’s really unlikely to have rain all day every day. Chances are it’ll be fine with the odd shower. I get why you’re catastrophising but I agree with PP- better to be in rainy France than rainy home and work!

You can't go out in the rain? Are you soluble?

Sparkletastic · 21/08/2026 10:27

It won’t be non stop rain and on the bright side fewer wildfire concerns.

Roselilly36 · 21/08/2026 10:28

The forecast will change I expect OP, often the forecast doesn’t happen, enjoy your holiday, no matter what.

There’s no point going out, I won’t be able to get any nice pictures, just trudging about in the pouring rain.

Don't be too hasty. It's probably going to be great weather. Don't trust the weather apps. Any chance of a shower and they stick the grey cloud and raindrop symbol up making it look like mid-winter.

Take the dresses. Wear them with boots if necessary.

Don’t care about that. There’s not been any where I’m heading anyway

Oh yeah, that’ll look nice on social media!

But it's South of France rain!

In my experience of that area, rain is rarely constant and the weather forecasts on your phone (well the one I use) gives a percentage chance, so when you see the rain symbol it's not always "real" rain, just a light shower or a chance of one.

You will be absolutely fine, just pack a brolly as the temps will still be very nice I'd say.

And remember, it doesn't rain inside a bar or restaurant, and the gorgeous terraces on such places can be covered.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 21/08/2026 10:29

I am sorry- its shit. I am sure someone lovely will come along soon to tell you first world problems etc, but its really rubbish when you are looking forward to something so much and then it's an anti climax.

You may be lucky -the weather could change again or you might only get a heavy thundery shower for a short period of time.

Maybe make rainy n sunny day plans so either way, you have something nice to look forward to each day.

CasperGutman · 21/08/2026 10:30

We went to the Bordeaux area and although the area we stayed was okay, when we visited the city the smoke was awful. One day we had grey skies all day, but it wasn't overcast: it was just yellow-grey from the smoke! We saw convoys of (many) dozens of fire engines, ambulances and vanloads of gendarmes everywhere. I think they'll all be glad of some wetter conditions.

Go on your holiday. Take a coat and a brolly. You'll be fine.

Edited to add: I know it is disappointing on a personal level, but don't worry too much. I often find that advance weather forecasts look terrible because there'll be one symbol for the day and it's rain. When you get nearer to the time and the level of detail improves you often find it's fine all day apart from a shower at 4pm or whatever.

2 grand for the week plus excursions etc while I’m there just for it to be the French version of the town I live in! I’m absolutely gutted

I’m sure. AccuWeather is more accurate and it’s risk everyday for the days I’m there.

Fair enough. You should probably cancel it then. Sounds like it will be awful for you.

sweetpickle2 · 21/08/2026 10:33

Are you always this glass half empty OP? In my experience "just my luck" people always seem to have the worst luck because they're looking for it.

Yes it's not the holiday you had in mind, but you're going anyway so you may as well try and enjoy yourself and maybe have a chance of having fun- rather than sulking about it in your room and having a guaranteed shit time.

If you can't get out of it, get into it!

Pollyanna87 · 21/08/2026 10:33

You’re being a bit silly, but I do like getting nice photos too, so I get it. What area are you going to? You could get nice photos in hotels or museums. And you can get nice photos out in the rain if you’re wearing nice outdoors gear!

FookFookFook · 21/08/2026 10:33

Buy a lovely bright coloured umbrella or two and you could have some great social media pics if that’s your primary concern.

panomara · 21/08/2026 10:33

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:31

That's what it is - "risk".

Sounds like occasional thundery outbreaks. That happens a lot after the intense heat of Summer. Rarely last for long, and then the sun is out again.

The percentage chance is what you need to look for. TBH it looks ok to me and not as disastrous as you are making it out to be!

Wow, you’re such a joy.
what a horrid thing to say, the wildfires have been horrific this year.
Hope it pisses down every day.

shellyleppard · 21/08/2026 10:34

@youcantmakethisup but it doesn't stop you having a good holiday?? If it rains...so what? You are still on holiday. Not everyone has the chance of that. Enjoy it whatever the weather x
