The weather has changed for my holiday

Due to holiday in the south of France next week, and all along the long range forecast has been beautiful.

Now it’s changed. Rain every fucking day apart from the day I leave. I have to unpack all the beautiful dresses and clothes I’ve packed and change them out for rain jackets and boots. I’m fuming, I actually can’t believe it. It’s just my luck!

AIBU to just not want to go? I was due to do so many lovely day trips and now they’ll just be awful - damp and grey, any pictures I take will look awful. I just can’t believe it

You seem to be more bothered about not being able to take nice photos to put on social media. If that's the only reason you're going on this holiday then i guess you'd better not bother going. A bit ignorant to say you don't care about the wildfires though. Are pictures on SM more important than people losing their homes?

AlgaeDreams · 21/08/2026 10:54

They won't want you there moaning anyway.

Sorted.

I have a travel TikTok. I don’t want it to look British, I want it to look like the luxury trip it’s supposed to be.

But this is a great opportunity to adapt this particular content showing how people can still experience 5 star luxury with unexpected bad weather. Give people tips and advice. If you're savvy you can use the ones being given here.

You're being so myopic, come on and leverage the opportunity.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 21/08/2026 10:54

It probably won't be that bad in terms of rain. I think you've got off lightly TBH, you could have had 45C and your accommodation going up in smoke a week or so ago. Plus it's often stormy/changeable at the end of August anywhere in Europe.

We went to Croatia at this time of year and it was mostly sunny and 30C but there was one day of heavy rain and some spectacular thunderstorms.

We just went to Thailand in the rainy season. It was 30-35C every day, sunny, rained quite often early evening, saw some great thunderstorms over another island and it rained one afternoon out of two weeks.

When we looked at the forecast before we went it said rain every day. Well technically that was correct. If anything the rain added to and didn't spoil the holiday. And it was absolutely nothing like the UK. In fact when we arrived it was 33C there and 38C at home, so I was very glad to be there!

What tips? “Go out and get soaked! Sod all your plans!”

And as you have seen, even luxury trips can't control the weather.

Your followers will get far more out of content about how you adapted when a trip didn't go to plan than a boring carousel of perfect pics. It wi be more relatable and more interesting and more useful.

At any rate, that's your only choice (that or cancel the trip). I guess only you know whether you have enough cash and followers to chuck those thousands down the drain, and whether that will give you a better outcome than a trip and content that were adapted to a very very relatable change of circumstances.

There haven’t been wildfires in Nice.

Okay so for example:

A sunrise swim. Can’t do that if it’s pissing rain and cloudy, it’ll just be grey.

I can’t go to Monaco and walk along the harbour, it’ll be pissing rain.

I can’t go to Menton, get a Menton tart and sit outdoors eating it, it’ll be pissing rain.

Hey posters - what are we missing? Since when can't you go for a sunrise swim just because it's grey?

Has the world now become so sad that our only enjoyment is basing a holiday on good pictures? How awful.

I don't take a lot of pictures. I live in the moment and enjoy my family. The success of a holiday isn't the social media photos, it's the memories we made.

hugasaurus · 21/08/2026 10:56

In general though I do feel sorry for people with such a negative perspective on life like OP. It must genuinely be a not very nice way to live. I know others like that, they see everything through a negative lens, minor issues become this massive ordeal. I just think it must make life such hard work. I don’t know if that kind of thinking is just genetic or if it’s a nurture thing or both but it’s really sad I think.

Newbie42 · 21/08/2026 10:57

Awful. You should probably set up a gofundme. People will be queuing to donate when they read what an ordeal you have been through.

Sigh.

Good luck. With the millions of people who now do content creation, you are going to need a bit more nous if you want to stay relevant for more than 2 mins.

I hope you have a good time whatever you end up doing.

WoollyPigeon · 21/08/2026 10:57

Sack it off then. Sounds awful

Limeandfigs · 21/08/2026 10:58

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:46

Can you read?

She can read much better than you can.

A few mm of rain for 1-2 hours a day is a light drizzle which passes quickly.

It's not torrential monsoon weather. You don't need waterproofs and boots.

You might need a hat if you don't want your hair to get a bit frizzy.

Maybe try enjoying life instead of wasting time on social media? Everyone knows that it's all vacuous tripe. Seriously, nobody gives a shit about your pictures. You've paid thousands to impress strangers, what a sad existence.

InveterateWineDrinker · 21/08/2026 10:59

sweetpickle2 · 21/08/2026 10:38

You sound very miserable and unpleasant OP. You should probably stay home.

Good advice OP. In addition, I think you should completely reconsider your approach to life and the role social media has in it.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 21/08/2026 10:59

Surely you have been wearing ' your brand new summer wardrobe ' for the last couple of months - as in England we have had weeks and weeks of sun !

You wouldn't have kept a wardrobe full of brand new summer clothes sitting there just for the last 2 weeks of Summer - would you ?

Autumn starts on Sept 1st, today is 21st August - you have 10 days of ' Summer ' left.

Yes stay at home, you may/will lose the money you have paid out already on transport / Airb&b but at least you will save your spending money so you will be better off financially.

After all your social media photos are soooooooo important to all your family and friends...

DeftGoldHedgehog · 21/08/2026 10:59

@youcantmakethisup Nice forecast looks 30C and sunny all week next week. Week after, 27/28C and has about 50% chance of rain every day. That doesn't mean it will bucket down every day, or in the daytime. They are expecting 0.5mm to 1mm of rain a day.

Ah, so you're an eejit. Would have saved everyone a lot of time if you'd mentioned that from the start.

Yeah grey shitty weather looks sooooo good

You are being arsey to everyone who is trying to be positive and give advice.

DollopOfFun · 21/08/2026 10:59

Style out some wellies?

You could start a social media campaign to bring back the rain hood!

Genuinely who wants to watch videos of trudging about in the rain?

I really hope it's a solo trip, I can't imagine anything worse than being stuck on holiday with someone so negative!
