The weather has changed for my holiday

Due to holiday in the south of France next week, and all along the long range forecast has been beautiful.

Now it’s changed. Rain every fucking day apart from the day I leave. I have to unpack all the beautiful dresses and clothes I’ve packed and change them out for rain jackets and boots. I’m fuming, I actually can’t believe it. It’s just my luck!

AIBU to just not want to go? I was due to do so many lovely day trips and now they’ll just be awful - damp and grey, any pictures I take will look awful. I just can’t believe it

Okay so for example:

A sunrise swim. Can’t do that if it’s pissing rain and cloudy, it’ll just be grey.

I can’t go to Monaco and walk along the harbour, it’ll be pissing rain.

I can’t go to Menton, get a Menton tart and sit outdoors eating it, it’ll be pissing rain.

Echoing another poster, you’re miserable because you’re looking for misery. Of course you can swim in the rain, you’re getting wet anyway!

You can go to the Palace in Monaco, they have a lovely Grace Kelly exhibition on at the moment.

See if you can make a dinner reservation at Eden-Roc.

You can do a tour at the Fragonard factory.

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:41

I’m not going to walk about with an umbrella like I’m at home, I don’t want to get fucking soaked

Who enjoys being in the rain? If I wanted that I’d have booked a UK holiday.

True....... like all the rain we have had all summer.

Still, sitting in the sun on a sunny quayside in England doesn't compare (on SM at least) with being in Monaco...........😆

ShowOfHands · 21/08/2026 10:40

If does actually. No glare and better colour but if you insist on speaking to me like my KS3 students, I shall do the same as I do with them and actively ignore you.

I agree. My wedding was abroad and it was cloudy and I was disappointed as the day before had been bright sun and blue skies. The photographer said cloud was much better to photograph in as the photos come out nicer with the soft lighting instead of harsh sunlight.

trotterstrot · 21/08/2026 10:42

What is it with these photos and social media? WTF? Initially I thought it’s because the holiday would have to have changed plans but my god what’s all this obsessing about social media looks ?!

Hayley1256 · 21/08/2026 10:42

I find AccuWeather the most unreliable forecast especially for abroad. The met office is the one I trust the most and that's not showing hardly any rain for Nice next week

DollopOfFun · 21/08/2026 10:42

That is unfortunate after all the hot sunny weather recently. Bummed out this time

jobsagooduninnit · 21/08/2026 10:43

OP I have a VERY accurate weather app and every location in the south France from Nice to Archachon says 8 hours of sunshine a day. It has weather in 3 hour blocks and if there is a chance if rain is it low, only for a short period and a tiny amount <0.1mm. You’ll be fine.

I’m not going to be sitting on the quayside when it’s pissing rain!

Everyday is pissing rain. The only day that there’s a chance of it being sunny is the day I’m booked into a beach club, which will be ruined by it raining!

Oh yeah, that’ll look nice on social media!

OMG!
You do realise that no-one actually cares about your pointless posts on SM?
🤣🤣🤣

Berlinlover · 21/08/2026 10:43

You seem more interested in social media posts than having a nice time on holiday.

How am I going to have a nice time stuck in the Airbnb in the pissing rain?

Tickingcrocodile · 21/08/2026 10:45

Your forecast doesn't even say pissing rain. Every other forecast seems to say the weather will be nice but with the occasional threat of rain. You seem determined to have a negative outlook on it. If you are so sure you won't have a good time, perhaps you should just cancel (and then look silly when your travelling companions are sharing pictures of themselves in the sunshine).

Keroppi · 21/08/2026 10:45

It's hot temps, will feel hot and humid, the sea will be warm, and sunny, with less than 1-2 hours overall of rain across a long summery day?
And you think it'll be pissing it down all day and you won't be able to sit and eat from a patisserie.

Are you thick or just can't read?
You'll have a great time.

Epoisses · 21/08/2026 10:45

You're behaving like a toddler

Doriangraysattic · 21/08/2026 10:45

We're away this week in the uk -our first and only doable holiday this year due to a shitty awful year of medical nonsense- and its been rubbish compared to the last few weeks. We've made the best of it and have actually had a good few days but it does seem a bit - arghhhh !!

Easilyforgotten · 21/08/2026 10:46

We had a 70 something percent chance of rain yesterday. It hammered down for all of about 5 minutes, 10 or so minutes after that you would never know it had rained.........

ezzemma · 21/08/2026 10:46

You sound so miserable so yes you more then likely will have a terrible time .

CarlaH · 21/08/2026 10:46

Struggling to take this one seriously to be honest.

Yeah lovely. Humid and pissing rain! Aka frizzy hair and no chance of getting a tan

Just adjust your itinerary OP.
Weather forecast is just that, a forecast!
Take an umbrella/ raincoat etc and you will be fine.

In all honesty, you are sounding a bit like a petulant child right now!

From the POV of someone who is French resident and has been praying for rain for weeks IMO MeteoFrance (and some other outlets) aren't doing a great job ATM...

It"s almost been a case of the people want rain so they've decided they'd better chuck some in the forecast (before anyone grumbles I know forecasting is difficult).

I wouldn't bin a holiday on the basis of the forecasts, I would come prepared for showers.

ChickenBananaBanana · 21/08/2026 10:47

Your screenshots literally say a little rain not a monsoon. And max duration of less than 3 hours.

sweetpickle2 · 21/08/2026 10:47

Starting to think this is a pisstake post, nobody is this much of a child surely.

If it is real- I feel for you OP. I personally can have fun anywhere because I'm fun, I imagine it's hard when you're an immature joy sucker. Enjoy your holiday.
