The weather has changed for my holiday

Due to holiday in the south of France next week, and all along the long range forecast has been beautiful.

Now it’s changed. Rain every fucking day apart from the day I leave. I have to unpack all the beautiful dresses and clothes I’ve packed and change them out for rain jackets and boots. I’m fuming, I actually can’t believe it. It’s just my luck!

AIBU to just not want to go? I was due to do so many lovely day trips and now they’ll just be awful - damp and grey, any pictures I take will look awful. I just can’t believe it

I find it hilarious that it’s apparently so far fetched that someone might actually want to enjoy their holiday, not spend it in the pissing rain!

I think most of us find it hilarious that you've translated "a 55% chance of very light drizzle for two hours a day maximum" into "pissing rain".

Pack all your boots and wet weather gear as you suggested. You'll soon be wishing you hadn't.

TeenToTwenties · 21/08/2026 13:13

There was an article on TV a few months back about tourist places complaining that these weather summaries put people off as all they see the the rain cloud and not that the rest of the day is nice.

OP, with your travel tiktok if you are any good you could easily make a 'feature' of enjoying the rain, if you wanted to. It's a matter of attitude.

I mean, I can understand some mild disappointment. I don’t understand this level of catastrophising given that the weather forecasts for Nice and Monaco look absolutely fine to me. Therefore I can only conclude that this thread is either a wind up or simply part of a wider pattern of online attention seeking.

CeeJay81 · 21/08/2026 13:21

7 days or more in advance your not getting a accurate picture. Forecasts I'm seeing are saying it'll be nice next weekend anyway!

Yeah I think your holiday sounds shit too.

MrsMurphyIWish · 21/08/2026 13:27

I think the forecast is perfect weather. At the start of the summer I went on holiday where the typical temps should have been 30 degrees, the heatwave in Europe meant it was 40+ some days - that was awful weather in my opinion as that really meant we couldn't sightsee without risk of burning and feeling sick. I'm away again next week - in this country - and it's forecast storms. I'm looking forward to it. There are means to keeping dry but not the same for keeping cool.

I’m not going to be able to go out and do the day trips, it’s raining every day. I’m so gutted

Why can't you still do the day trips? You're not made of spun sugar ffs.

Not recently!

Very true! I wish it would rain!

Can’t cope with the astronomical definitions because that means winter does not start until 21 December and goes on to March. Meteorological makes more sense.

op cannot read and interpret weather apps.

The astronomical makes more sense, oddly, with the weather in Kent in recent years. Autumn starts late and goes on until Christmas or early January when Winter suddenly blows in. Chilly weather goes on into March. Then there is a kind of half arsed Spring until it finally gets warm in May, often very wet in Spring, not that it makes any difference to South East Water. After two weeks of warm weather we get a hosepipe ban. Then it's warm (ish) until October. This year absolutely scorching.

FookFookFook · 21/08/2026 13:37

Are you able to cancel and not lose too much money? Sometimes the cancellation periods are quite generous.

deedeemegadoodoo · 21/08/2026 13:38

I’m in SW France. To be honest, it’s been unbearably hot for weeks until this week. This week is cooler but still pleasant. There’s bits of rain but mainly at night or early morning. Scattered clouds but still very hot when the sun hits you. Keep your summer clothes but just add the odd layer. All umbrellas and shades are up on all pavement cafes because it is still nice,

Whatbloodysummer · 21/08/2026 13:41

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:49

I have a travel TikTok. I don’t want it to look British, I want it to look like the luxury trip it’s supposed to be.

So it's more about trying to impress people on SM than on actually seeing the places and doing the things i.e dawn swim/cake thingy/Monaco 'walk' than anything else isn't it?

Obviously, most people would be disappointed with rainy weather on their planned holiday, but you're taking the 'petulant' to the extreme on the thread? 😂🙄😤

Not wanting to use an umbrella and your pics being shitty is nonsence.

The weather changes hour by hour, day by day, and yes, it may well rain for long periods of your trip, but that doesn't mean that absolutely everything is trashed, it just means that you may have to alter your clothing a little 😱

But if you've decided that wallowing is the best use of your thread, then by all means, have at it.

SaltyCara · 21/08/2026 13:44

You are misinterpreting the forecasts, OP. They categorically are not predicting solid rain all day every day. They are predicting that roughly 50% of the forecast area MAY get rain (and even then, not much if it). It looks like there will be occasional showers. The MAXIMUM hours of precipitation for any of the days you have posted is 2.5hrs. Try to read the forecasts properly, you will feel less stressed.

Yoyokitten · 21/08/2026 13:46

You getting bored on the school holidays?
If this post is genuine you come across as a very unpleasant spoiled brat, and selfish too with your attitude to the wild fires.
Bloody social media !!

thedogisfine · 21/08/2026 13:48

Stay home then and sulk. Nobody cares if you go or not.

I find it hilarious that it’s apparently so far fetched that someone might actually want to enjoy their holiday, not spend it in the pissing rain!

And I find it rather sad that you have so little adaptability and imagination that you can't enjoy yourself and create interesting content unless the weather is perfect. Instead of whingeing on here, why not do some research and work out alternatives to what you'd planned, just in case?

Here's the forecast for Nice for the next 3 days on an actual French weather site: https://www.meteociel.fr/previsions/2005/nice.htm

and here's the longer range forecast for the following 10 days: https://www.meteociel.fr/tendances/2005/nice.htm

Not exactly pissing it down all day every day. 🙄

We had an influencer at our resort in Thailand one year. She spent hours dangling off various stuff in carefully curated outfits photographing herself. Eventually the kids in the resort cottoned on and started dangling off stuff too, with the absolute support of the staff. At one point she was dangling backward off one of those 4 poster pool beds with her hair in the pool. There were kids mimicking her on every single bed.

There was no rain.

I thought Influencers only went to Monaco to dangle during F1. I think you’re doing it wrong OP.

Bjorkdidit · 21/08/2026 14:04

Hopefully the OP will go, experience mostly lovely weather and realise how foolish she's being.

I went to a famously rainy country, with consequential green fields and parks even now, a few days ago and the weather forecast was rainy all day.

In reality there were 3 or 4 short showers, I still had a good time, ate and drank outside and took some lovely pictures.

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:43

I’m not going to be sitting on the quayside when it’s pissing rain!

Everyday is pissing rain. The only day that there’s a chance of it being sunny is the day I’m booked into a beach club, which will be ruined by it raining!

O.8 mm is nothing and with a cloud cover of 30% that hardly qualifies as pissing with rain. How ridiculous!

CapitanSandy · 21/08/2026 14:24

You have two options really - cancel your trip or go and make the best of it. I know which one I’d choose.

MsPrufrockk · 21/08/2026 14:28

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:39

I don’t want to waste a week in art galleries, I have things planned that I actually want to do.

They're not really things you 'want to do', you just want to take pretty pictures for social media 😂

How have you booked, can you change the dates or the location?

Sartre · 21/08/2026 14:29

It’s pretty sad you’re only going on holiday to get pics for the Gram.

MsPrufrockk · 21/08/2026 14:32

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 13:05

I find it hilarious that it’s apparently so far fetched that someone might actually want to enjoy their holiday, not spend it in the pissing rain!

If you're not a troll, and if you are in fact a luxury travel content creator (I have my doubts) - why are you having such a strop? Surely you have the money and travel knowledge to be able to postpone/tweak your trip, to go at a different time and/or to a different destination.

Pelotonia · 21/08/2026 14:33

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:29

There’s no point going out, I won’t be able to get any nice pictures, just trudging about in the pouring rain.

That’s tosh! You’ll just get nice pics with a greyer background! I’ve just come back from a long walk in Italy, in heavy rain. The town is still beautiful, the architecture gorgeous, the history palpable etc. get out there and enjoy it!

MandemChickenShop · 21/08/2026 14:34

youcantmakethisup · 21/08/2026 10:29

Don’t care about that. There’s not been any where I’m heading anyway
