Hi everyone so I got a coil swap over last week. From the mirena to the Kyleena. They told me to abstain from sex for 7 days or use condoms. But we did not once. This was last Tuesday I got the coil swap over. And I had sex the Saturday the few days before. I done a pregnancy test today and I swear I see a second line! But would a pregnancy test show up this early on?! HELP

Did you tell your boyfriend you'd been advised to use condoms?

Anarchy99 · 19/08/2026 19:06

Gemilo · 19/08/2026 18:51

Nobody is pearl clutching. Of course if contraception fails abortion should be an option. However the OP is possibly pregnant because - despite being told to use contraception for 7 days - she just didn't bother.

Most unwanted pregnancies happen because of similar circumstances. Luckily in the UK we are still entitled to a termination regardless of how it happened.

In any case it looks like the op, if she is in fact pregnant, would keep it.

Not sure if this is better

I don’t think there’s any clear lines in these pics, it’s a tide mark from a faulty/flooded test window. There should be a clear defined line (even if very faint) with colour to it, your pics show first part of the test window being slightly darker and the other part of the window being lighter. I think you should do another test.

Nope it wasn’t planned but I do take full responsible for bein stupid and not using condoms but I’m not the only one on the earth that this has happened to. I think I’m gettin judged harshly

Well, you were specifically told not to risk having sex without condoms and you did so 9 (? it seems?) times despite not wanting a baby. No, I don’t think you’re being judged harshly. You’ve been bafflingly irresponsible - you’re old enough to know better and have kids so you know how this works - and people aren’t pretending otherwise!

MagicAlixk · 19/08/2026 20:02

Obviously this was planned because nobody who has an unplanned pregnancy is testing this obsessively early, especially during a coil change

Stop attacking people for having different views. Someone who goes against medical advice repeatedly, then sounds surprised she’s pregnant isn’t winning any intelligence or responsibility awards.

Why do we have to be sympathetic when people are playing with lives? Children should be an intentional choice by two responsible parents. Not some “accident” because the parents can’t comprehend basic instructions.

BeautifulViolets · 19/08/2026 16:36

You think you’re getting judged harshly??? You admitted yourself that you were told not to have sex for 7 days, but went on to have unprotected sex every day and once 3 times on the same day?!!

For that, yes, you are getting judged!!

Why? Who cares honestly. If she’s pregnant then that’s the consequence of unprotected sex. Many children are born in the same circumstances. I don’t get why so many people need to tell her off. She’s an adult with a child already. I’m sure if she’s pregnant she will have 9 months to get excited or she can have an abortion if she’s not in the position to have a child, which she said she wouldn’t do. Google reckons only 55% of pregnancies are planned.

GaslitlikeaVictorianparlour · 19/08/2026 21:15

For what its worth, that doesn't look like a positive test to me.

Have a chat with the nurse tomorrow, in general if your coil was in date when you changed to the new one you're not at increased risk of pregnancy. Mirenas last 8 years now. There may be a reason why this didn't apply to you so its worth checking but if the nurse was just being cautious - happy days.

You can find the info about changing from one coil to an other in the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health Guidelines on intrauterine contraception.

The one you say is negative is positive unless you checked it after the time. If it's negative the second box is completely blank.

Hey I checked it 3-5 mins after. Is a negative completely blank ?

You know we have declining birth rates don’t you? Lots of people are concerned about the impact that will have over the next few decades. Maybe OPs lack of precautions are a public service

I hope you are being facetious!

There’s a lot wrong with two irresponsible parents having unplanned pregnancies. That’s not a gift to society at all.

A third of babies born are apparently unplanned. ‘Happy accident’. Having unprotected sex in a committed relationship doesn’t make someone an unfit parent. Just chill out.

OP buy a digital test and do it with your first morning wee. That’ll tell you without the line guessing

The OP, despite having been asked several times, has avoided answering whether she told her partner that she'd been advised to use condoms. Potentially lying to a partner and tricking them into becoming a parent "in a committed relationship" could be considered not a great start to becoming a parent with them.

Yes I told my partner also about it. He was also well aware.

This is not a reference to the OP's situation but the Public Health England stat is that 1/3 of births are "unplanned or ambivalent" and that there is a correlation with negative mental and physical wellbeing for both the mother and the child. Unplanned pregnancies do not necessarily mean the parent(s) are unfit, of course not, but the stats do not suggest that unplanned or ambivalent pregnancies are necessarily 'happy accidents'.

I have no idea my periods are so fucked up I’ve had the coil for ages but then I got a replacement last week! On Tuesday around 2pm. And the last time I had unprotected sex was the Saturday night before that. But I got a straight coil swap over but the nurse did say to me to use protection for 7 days as the coil does not work for 7 days ? We did not. We stupidly had sex. Like every day. So it is my own fault. And it took like 3-5 mins for a line to appear

Why on earth did you completely disobey the instructions? You basically tried to have a baby by doing so.
