Reform want to cut PIP

1000 replies

Daygloboo · 16/08/2026 09:15

Reform want to cut benefits for disabled people. They want businesses to pay more towards sickness etc. I find it repulsive that they want to do this. When will people understand that they are a bunch of self interested sharks who want to make a stack of dosh for themselves while in govt and that they font give a damn about anyone in need. Why cant the most vulnerable ppl who vote for them see thus. It's astonishing. It's ac joke. I eish ppl who get what Reform.iscreally about and how it manipulates would make sn extra effort to tslk to.ppl who dont seem to get it.

PIP should be means tested, and the savings should be reinvested in social care and for those who needed it the most.

I have a friend whose husband claims PIP whilst doing the same job as me, he has a blue badge too, despite zero mobility issues, he gets almost a thousand pounds a month. My friend uses the blue badge for free parking at work or in town when shopping in their expensive brand new Audi. He doesn’t need the extra money for care, his condition is controlled by medication, my friend got savvy though and used the Facebook groups etc to fill out the forms and get him the maximum.

I have just returned from holiday and every other disabled space had an Audi or Mercedes parked in it, including some tosser with a blue badge who parked there £70k Mercedes on a lifeboat reserved area, with kayaks and surf boards on the roof..

I have no issue with supporting people who need it, and I am sorry for people who find it hard to claim what they need, but blame the idiots like my friend and others who absolutely abuse the system, and have no shame hiding it either

  1. PIP is not an out of work benefit. It does not assess the ability to work.
  2. The support that PIP provides claimants enables them to access low level care from family as opposed to the broken and much more expensive social care system. Eliminating the benefit, doesn’t eliminate the need and those people who lose benefit would then fall on the much more expensive social care system, negating any savings.
  3. PIP is not ‘almost a thousand pounds a month’. The higher rate of both mobility and care combined come to £775 a month and by no means all claimants are awarded that.
  4. The Facebook groups only use information DWP distribute and some of those groups have been set up by DWP themselves because they know PIP forms are difficult to complete and the help agencies are overwhelmed. It’s about advising claimants how to make the best claim they can based on the reporting of their actual disability, not committing wholesale fraud.
  5. Given that many disabled people without their own vehicles have a blue badge and can use it to travel in friends or relatives cars, how do you know that the ‘tosser’ with the blue badge was the owner of the Mercedes or the kayaks and surf boards ? I had a claimant who loved scycling until he became disabled. After that he still joined in with his cycling friends as an onlooker - doesn’t mean the cycles on the top of the vehicle displaying his blue badge belonged to him.
  6. I simply don’t believe that your friend has been awarded both PIP and a blue badge for zero mobility issues. Unless you live with him 24/7, are familiar with his condition and able to interpret it, and have access to what was on his PIP claim/blue badge application and any assessment report then you can’t possibly know everything there is to know about his disability.

Abd when the physio doesn't work?

Exactly! In my experience physio is great for rehab from injuries and post surgery etc but pretty ineffective for severe arthritis.

I believe it’s DLA that children receive under the age of 16.

The government is not putting anything in their private pension, what a ludicrous post. They save an amount in exorbitant taxes they pay. The rules are the same for everyone but just because tax rate on high earners is so high they save more than lower earners by contributing to pension.

if you make a lot of money and pay a lot of taxes (10% of earners pay 60% of income tax receipts) and get almost nothing in government support (free childcare hours, tax free allowance, etc etc) this is literally the only thing that’s left. People who contribute very little should not be complaining about that. They are free to earn more and enjoy same saving

You are just playing with semantics! Here is the long version of what I said:

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/personal-and-stakeholder-pensions-statistics/private-pension-statistics-commentary

NB - the gross cost of the pensions income tax and NI reliefs is £83.9 billion, and the net cost is £53.8 billion. Higher rate tax payers get £22.9 billion of that relief.

The point of the progressive tax system is to tax the higher earners more is to fund the welfare state, a safety net for the poor and vulnerable - not to pay massive amounts of tax back to those people, while taking the meagre benefits off those, living in poverty!

As for them getting no benefits from the tax they pay - they get an education system, the NHS, the emergency services, civil defence, the justice and prison system (to protect them from criminals), the road and public transport system….Time to check their privilege!

Interesting so many people think Reform voters are all on pip.

They don’t.

Bur you can’t argue with statistics and one stat that’s been pointed out is that in Clacton - Reforms latest by election win and the Reform leaders own constituency - 18% of working age people claim PIP.

We dont know how many of those are PIP claimants in work or out of work and why they are out of work if they are.

People are questioning if those people would vote reform under this policy.

Restore, the party that accepts donations from neo nazi who wants another Hitler? You remember how they saw disabled people?

They have the fastest growing membership of any party in how many years? You have to ask yourself why instead of just throwing negatives about.

@Helllllooooooooooo

  1. Audis and Mercedes are NOT available on motability so if your friend’s husband has just bought a new one, he’s paid for it himself!
  2. As for your comment about new Audis in disability spaces… are you seriously suggesting that these brands should be turning customers away if they have a blue badge? I suppose you think that they should all be driving the old blue 3 wheelers? None of your fucking business what type of car others buy!
  3. You sound like a really shit friend.

This makes my blood boil. You do NOT get PIP simply by completing an online form. Shame on you for telling such a whopping, dangerous lie.

Not a lie - I know people who work for the DWP and they confirm this. You may have to enclose a doctors or counsellors note but they are easy to obtain.

Possibly Reform doing a deal with the Tories and Restore in the mix, but there is a strong chance Farage could be PM IMO, the present fuck up is a Tory/Labour problem but yet people still seem to want to cling to these parties and resist change, wonder why?

Currently no chance Farage will be PM. Even Reform+Tories+Restore won't do it. A coalition of the left would be the outcome.🥰

You can’t get pip for anxiety and depression. The bar for mental health disabilities is very high.

Yes you can as long as you state your anxiety or depression is severe. Very easy to exaggerate.

ClarkeandNewman · 16/08/2026 17:18

Howlerhog · 16/08/2026 16:24

They are prepared to recognise and try to address the issue. Labour are doing f-all, not even recognising the issue. Recognising the issue is always the first step (see also violence in schools, soaring immigration, lack of housing). I want to see the government acknowledging that paying every more for improbably high rises in PIP is an issue.

Borrowing is growing massively. 10% of all the UK spends is on interest repayments and Labour is increasing this debt, not reducing it. How’s that being grown up?

The Labour party was talking about reforming PIP and other disability related benefits before they enen won the election in 2024.They've reformed LCWRA and carried out the Timms review. They would have gone even further had there not been a backbench revolt among MPs who remembered that the Labour party is meant to believe in the welfare state. Have you not been paying attention? Disability benefit reform has been one of the defining features of this government. I don't know how you've missed it.

Rosscameasdoody · 16/08/2026 17:18

BySunnyJadeEagle · 16/08/2026 16:34

Yeah. We know how statistics work.

I already said in my post it wasn't the only condition but the DWP categorise it as the main condition since it's the one the claimant mostly reports as causing their disability.

Do you have an explanation for why mixed anxiety and depression is the most awarded disabling conditions when they literally can't be proven because they rely on what the person says rather than any medical evidence?

Do you think it's possible that because of that, this benefit may be being abused?

Edited

It’s not my experience (twenty years in disability support) that simple anxiety and depression treated by primary care GP input are the most awarded disabling conditions unless there is also physical disability. The bar is set very high for stand alone MH conditions so it depends on the severity of the condition and whether secondary care, consultant led MH teams are involved - which can’t be extrapolated from these figures. DWP use the claimants’ own assessment on the application from to specify the main disabling condition, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s correct - it’s just what is reported.

In actual fact, in some areas you can apply for PIP online. It’s being trialled in various areas, but is by no means the norm. Whatever evidence you have can be uploaded or sent separately and generally GP evidence mostly consists of the record of consultations - they don’t provide specific reports.

Simonjt · 16/08/2026 17:21

@Helllllooooooooooo Why do you think people shouldn’t be able to buy an Audi or Mercedes if they have a bluebadge, or a relative with a bluebadge?

Freud2 · 16/08/2026 17:21

Extra what ? Disability is universal, so support with the extra cost is universal. What you’re suggesting is that those with the means should exhaust them before being able to access support. That’s a two tier system and an absolute race to the bottom.

It might be being trialled but this is only in a small area and that is not the end of the process. A face to face, phone or video assessment is still required. The vast majority of areas still require the full paper form to be completed.

Idk who will win the next GE but surely it’ll be based on numbers of MPs then not 2024

Yes it absolutely will be based on the number of MPs then and not 2024.

But I am not convinced that restore or reform or a combination of them will suddenly gain the 150-200 seats needed.

This based on historical results.

2019 NF Brexit party had 275 candidates and won 0 seats

2024 NF Reform party had 609 candidates and won 5 seats.

You can’t argue obviously use statistics to make any picture you want but that’s pre facts and figures.

I could use the statistics to say he won 0/275 so lost 275 of the votes he went for. Which then also means he won 5/609 seats. So i could say in 2024 he didn’t win 604/609 seats contested.

So he didn’t win over twice as many.

However like i said you can twist stats to tell a tale using all sorts of bias.

But facts are he fielded 609 candidates compared to Labours 631 and Tory’s 635 and Lib Dem’s 630.

and only 5 of those were voted in.

But there would have to be an extremely huge unprecedented change for Reform to win enough seats from their 600 + candidates to have Farage as an MP.

TemperanceWest · 16/08/2026 17:25

KeepPumping · 16/08/2026 17:20

The election is three years away, plenty of time for Labour to really fuck up.

And plenty of time for Labour to get its act together. And the Tory party. Plenty of time for Farage and Reform's funding to be relentlessly scrutinised. Plenty of time for Restore to continue to poach Reform voters, too and split the far right vote. Anything could happen in the next three years. 🙂

DiscoRice · 16/08/2026 17:27

Freud2 · 16/08/2026 17:21

So that people who earn above a certain figure do not get extra.

Means testing is usually done on a household. So a disabled woman could receive no PIP because of her husband's earnings, even though PIP is there to help her.
How would that be right?
