To expect everyone at my wedding to stick to the colour scheme?

I'm having an autumn themed wedding. I've asked everyone, all the wedding party, family and all the guests to wear autumn colours - brown, orange, yellow, red etc.
Some of the men want to wear grey suits but I am upset by this because I don't see grey as an autumn colour. They say they will wear autumn coloured ties and accessories but I said I want the suits to be in Autumn colours
Is this unreasonable?

I shall look forward to your thread after the wedding titled "Half of my guests refused to come to my wedding due to my insane demands over their outfits", I'm sure it will be an interesting read.

You haven't even bothered reading all of this thread. If you had done you'd have seen the OP has done several responses, including a long one where she reveals this is a reverse and it's actually her sister who is the diva with the demands.

hiermetzandvullen · 16/08/2026 07:05

Grey is the colour of Autumn sky. Anyone with a modicum of good taste would not want their wedding photos filled with men dressed in red/yellow/orange suits - they would look like time travellers from a 1970s prom! Halloween is also autumnal, however, so a £20 Dracula costume from Tescos should fit the bill.

Gall10 · 16/08/2026 07:08

How much are you giving them in John Lewis vouchers to buy your chosen clothing? And surely you’re not asking for cash as a gift?

Is your dress going to be orange or yellow?

I’d guess red

JustLookingThanks · 16/08/2026 07:16

I'd be tempted to turn up with a Halloween pumpkin dress on, the men in luminous orange and bat themed accessories all round.
But seriously your life will be much better now, what a nightmare, she's nuts. I'm guessing your family will be split saying yes she's nuts and agreeing and the other half pandering to her. I'm so sorry it's been so upsetting.

Also why do only 50% of people read the thread 🤣 use the see next button bottom right before answering!

Grandslam8 · 16/08/2026 07:16

Are you going to pay for everybody’s new suits in those colours then? How much do you think it will be £100 per guest? If you aren’t planning to cover the cost of their suits in your specific colours will you still be expecting cash or wedding presents?

JenRummy · 16/08/2026 07:17

Jesus wept.

Yes they are being very unreasonable.

Hate reverses though. Akin to Scooby Doo mask reveals and tiresome.

Wilnis7 · 16/08/2026 07:18

the important thing is that everyone you love is celebrating with you, not the instagram picture you want

Yes, you’re being unreasonable. You should invite guests because you want them to witness your marriage, not as some colour accessorised objects for Instagram. 🙄

hellospring26 · 16/08/2026 07:19

Fucking hell. So you want the men to go out and buy yellow / red / orange suits? I wouldn’t go.

sorry just read full thread. My point still applies to your batshit sil though. Your poor brother.

Rocknrollstar · 16/08/2026 07:20

I don’t wear autumn colours and not going to buy for a wedding

Thepeopleversuswork · 16/08/2026 07:21

There is rarely a day that goes by on this board without someone taking bridezilla behaviour to dizzying new heights.

This is a living testimony to it the weird things that happen to rational people’s brains when planning weddings.

You are being exceptionally unreasonable.

Wadsworthy · 16/08/2026 07:23

You cannot be serious?

Morning coats are grey.

JortsNTeeShirt · 16/08/2026 07:24

Horrible colours that don’t suit most people. HTH

Thepeopleversuswork · 16/08/2026 07:25

Just read the update sorry. Deeply batshit unreasonable of your sister.

Another mumsnetter crying and shaking ffs.

Eveyone copes with conflict differently. A lot of it is ingrained at an early age. I grew up in a household where conflict meant someone would get hit, and I don't mean a smack for being naughty. It means during conflict I can get sweaty, shaky, dry mouth etc and I generally avoid it even though there is no prospect of violence any more.

MummyWillow1 · 16/08/2026 07:26

Even as a woman I would struggle with those colours - a lot of people look terrible in those colours and I would not be comfortable being immortalised in your wedding photos looking terrible.

For men they will often only own one suit and they are expensive to buy - especially in colours other than black, grey and blue.

You are being a bridezilla.

CadiFfan · 16/08/2026 07:26

You tell me there’s a dress code, im out.

fuck off😆

Dorothyperky · 16/08/2026 07:27

Autumn coloured clothes are one of the most difficult types to find. We last saw brown mens suits in the 1970s and early eighties.

My son suits this palette and he had a Tommy Hilfiger suit when he was about 15 and recently got a Moss jacket in tan.

I can't see many British women wearing orange or brown. It suits warm skin tones ( I'm a trained colour analyst) but is very unflattering on blue eyed blondes.

Your sister is being a bridezilla.
I'd remind her, the bigger the wedding (or fuss), the shorter the marriage!

JustJoinedRightNow · 16/08/2026 05:20

Is she though?

Yes

Likeiloveyou · 16/08/2026 07:31

Well I hope you have some trusted people to tell you what actually happens at this wedding! DSIS is bound to get shitty about something or someone!

runnersfeet · 16/08/2026 07:32

Bridezilla

Onthemaintrunkline · 16/08/2026 07:34

I’m of an age that wonders why a wedding needs a ‘theme’. Isn’t a wedding enough in itself? It’s a special happy day, inviting family & friends to be part of and witness the promises made. Share the excitement and wish the couple well.

I understand the wedding party, flowers, etc often have a similar style or shade, but this ‘theme’ business expecting your guests to buy an outfit they likely as not will never wear again, sets the person expecting this up to be rather a laughing stock, never mind coming across as totally unreasonable. A pity really as the most memorable and happy weddings we have attended are those that have been delightfully natural and unregulated.

I’m wondering how many will purchase, autumnal colored suits.

But as always, it’s your sister and soon to be your BIL’s day.

Sugargliderwombat · 16/08/2026 07:35

Absolutely everything sounds mental BUT you shouldn't have kicked her from the family chat. That's the thing she'll beat you with now.

Thepeopleversuswork · 16/08/2026 07:25

Have I missed something? Why is everyone talking about OP's sister? I thought it was op's wedding??
