To expect everyone at my wedding to stick to the colour scheme?

I'm having an autumn themed wedding. I've asked everyone, all the wedding party, family and all the guests to wear autumn colours - brown, orange, yellow, red etc.
Some of the men want to wear grey suits but I am upset by this because I don't see grey as an autumn colour. They say they will wear autumn coloured ties and accessories but I said I want the suits to be in Autumn colours
Is this unreasonable?

Most men have a grey suit knocking about in their wardrobe. Brown, Orange, Yellow, Red, Men don’t have these coloured suits in their wardrobe & they dont want to purchase an autumn coloured costume to wear just once. Let them wear the accessories, they are cheaper to purchase, what with this cost of living crisis. Even hiring a suit will be more expensive than purchasing accessories.

Girl please. No grown man wants to walk around looking like Big Bird from Sesame Street, or an Thanksgiving Table ornament! SMH. Wearing autumn ties or cummerbunds or whatever people wear at weddings these days, decorating the table like that and flowers should be enough. Monochrome wedding is not artistic for photos anyway. You need some highlight and complementary colors to break up the sameness.

You will be happy you let them wear gray when you are looking at your photos in 20 years. You will want to kick yourself for the thoughts you are having right now.

TheBrunswick · 16/08/2026 04:20

@Autumnalbride why did your dsis have a problem with your wedding?

MrsVBS · 16/08/2026 05:18

It’s bad enough having to sit through a wedding at the best of times let alone being told what to wear, even more so for men when their choices are more limited. Get over yourself.

Rightsraptor · 16/08/2026 05:19

Nobody EVER used to have a colour themed wedding. Just wasn't a thing. But OP isn't being unreasonable, she's being preposterous.

Is she though?

Rightsraptor · 16/08/2026 05:21

I see it's a reverse. In which case OP's sister is being preposterous.

Missey85 · 16/08/2026 05:22

😂😂😂 of course your being unreasonable and you probably know that already

Rightsraptor · 16/08/2026 05:31

People have wedding websites???

OP, the big mystery here is that your sister has found anyone willing to marry her. Bloody hell, she sounds a total nightmare.

Dear god. The epitome of TL;DR.

What the hell
is TLDR?

Trallers · 16/08/2026 05:48

I can believe nearly all of it @Autumnalbride, but I'm really struggling with believing anyone would think a sea of burgundy suits would look nice for the pictures Grin

That said, clearly many men are going to turn up blissfully unaware in a grey/black suit with a maroon tie.

ColdAsAWitches · 15/08/2026 23:53

Jesus Christ, what a load of drama. You're as bad as her. Telling her to fuck off, and removing her from the family Whatsapp group? Petty and childish and you had no right to do so. Ridiculous carry on from both of you.

Yup

Bluebeast · 16/08/2026 05:54

I beg your pardon? Her "wedding website"

What the actual fucking fuck?!

JustMyView13 · 16/08/2026 06:02

Technically grey is an autumn colour in the UK because it’s often grey and miserable outside.

Herenowatbroad · 16/08/2026 06:03

Well, this wedding sounds like it going to be a truly joyous occasion doesn’t it??

and whenever an OP does a reverse, I can’t help thinking - no matter how reasonable you are in the scenario you’ve outlined, you’re a bit of t*at so makes me question the accuracy of what they have posted

QuirkyHorse · 16/08/2026 06:11

Hahahaha, I have visions of people turning up dressed as pumpkins.

YABU but it sounds like it could be hilarious 😂

MyDeftDuck · 16/08/2026 06:13

Well, if you really want the men to look like they’re all wearing construction site PPE on the wedding photos then carry on………..but TBH you are being ridiculous OP!
By all means remind guests that it’s an autumn themed wedding but don’t be surprised if invitations get turned down because you demand everyone wears ‘autumn colours’.
The theme could be reflected in shirts and ties for the men….but suits?!?! No! YUBU!

Actually OP, take a closer look at nature and have a gander at tree trunks……those in my neighbours garden that I can see quite clearly as I write this are a sludgy dark grey colour…….certainly NOT distinctly brown or orange!

IDrinkTeaAllTheTime · 16/08/2026 06:15

😂 I’m just trying imagine a bunch of men in yellow or orange suits.

If this is the shit that’s important to you when getting married, I feel for your husband.

I’m also hoping this thread isn’t real, or you’re just very young and have become a bit carried away by what you see on social media, and the sensible mumsnetters can talk you down.

Edited to add: I see it’s a reverse, so you’re also unreasonable for that and my vote stays the same.

Skodacool · 16/08/2026 06:37

So are you going to pay for these suits that the men will never wear again? You are being ridiculous.

Zanatdy · 16/08/2026 06:38

OP, I mean this in a nice way. Yes have a colour theme, for you grooms men, table decorations, flowers, venue. But to expect people to go out and buy a whole new outfit so they match on your photos is crazy. Most men do not own suits in those colours, and ladies may not own a dress in those colours either. Colour schemes for guests are not on, and i’d imagine many of your guests are annoyed at this, or think you’re a bride zilla. What’s wrong with them coming in a grey suit. You either want them there or not. 99% people agree with me, so you need to reconsider this whole colour scheme.

Skodacool · 16/08/2026 06:43

Minasama · 15/08/2026 21:50

This. It seems very unlikely that the marriage will endure if this is the level of stuff she gets het up about. ----

My thoughts exactly!

CoffeeBotherer · 16/08/2026 06:50

Comprehensively ratioed in that vote!!

Women may enjoy buying a new dress (though not being so hemmed in by colour), but men not so much. It simply wouldn't happen, no matter how hard the bridal party stamps their feet.

The men are simply going to wear whatever they have in their closet, and will only buy new if none of them fit or if their wife tells them they're not good enough for the occasion. Note that wife will not have much say (if any) in what he does buy. So bridezilla has less than no influence. Even if she hires suits for all they wouldn't be worn!

And how many wives want to stand next to their husband who's dressed like a children's entertainer?

madaboutpurple · 16/08/2026 06:52

If you invited me I would have to decline as I never wear autumn colours. People have their favourite clothes and they could look dreadful in autumn colours. Why not let people wear whatever colours that they want to wear. Are you doing this so it looks good on social media. If people don't suit those colours then any photos will look awful. Totally unreasonable.

muddyford · 16/08/2026 06:55

Grey autumn skies, black mud...
