To think my neighbour is selfish tw*t for lighting a fire

Ok so how many people, after receiving a government alert about wild fires asking them not to have fires in their garden, would then in fact go against that and light a big F off fire in their garden, well that would be my next door neighbour! We all live in close proximity in terraced houses and my neighbour thinks it’s a good idea to light a fire. The fact the fire is (for now) contained in a make shift fire pit makes no difference, I mean it’s twa**ish behaviour right?

It’s clear that they don’t mean people’s back garden barbecues. They would have said so, and they didn’t. I’m not sure why people think it isn’t clear? They specifically say in the alert that “disposable barbecues” and fire pits are the problem, and on the government site they say you have to make sure your household bbq is fully extinguished. So they want people to be careful but they know banning bbqs entirely won’t be adhered to.

I have seen two fires in the past 24 hours,one a garden shed,destroyed 6 gardens and one person hospitalised with burns,second I have no idea what happened,saw the fire engine and hose,property in the country,that one hasn’t even made the local FB pages.Presumably all was well.
Before yesterday I can’t remember the last time I saw a fire.

I would call the Fire brigade and explain your neighbour has started a fire in the garden and you are concerned this will spread to neighbouring houses. I think the Fire Service might come round and give your twat of a neighbour some advice.

It explicity says to avoid any activity that could start a fire. I guess the only mistake they made was assuming that the general public weren't all as thick as shit.
We have had replies on threads saying gas bbq fine, home bbq fine, use a camping stove instead. I genuinely cant understand replies like this. Nobody needs to be lighting any kind if fire. It should have to be spelled out for every possible scenario.

Yep, I have already seen pics of people with BBQ on local FB groups. Taken before the alerts went out, as it was broad daylight 🙄
A lot of people miss the Covid restrictions, and it shows.

Well, there was a post on here from someone who turned the oven off in her own house after getting the alert.
How long until we get people rant on about not using any electricity at all in case it sparks and causes a flame and the emergency services to come out?

They clearly went out of their way to say disposable barbecues when they obviously could have just said barbecues. Your personal opinion about what people should be doing is your own.

Avoiding lighting a firepit is not enough... you need to close all your curtains in case the sunlight comes in and glances off of a wine glass and starts a fire... turn that air fryer off too. #saladstosavetheUK

What I really hated about Covid was the making up the rules in your head tendency and expecting people to adhere to your made up rules despite them only being in your head.

No wine, that’s non essential in the first place.

Ha, during Covid times, I went to a local shop and bought food for my dog.... pretty essential. I also picked up a bottle of wine, the shelf of which was on the way to the counter anyway. The security guard pulled me up on it and said it was not essential. Fucking twat.

As I said, the government deliberately didn’t ban bbqs entirely, I think they knew that would be counterproductive because if that was widely ignored (like hosepipes etc), so would everything else be.

i didn’t get the alert, neither did DP. If it wasn’t for it trending on X I wouldn’t have even known about the wildfires.

Saying that, lighting a fire in the height of summer when everyone has their windows open is twattish behaviour anyway.

Why are some posters banging on about Covid & people missing it?
It's a completely different situation.
If someone is stupid enough to have a bonfire in the garden after the wildfire alert went out then they deserve all the flak they get.
Personally I'd have watered my garden with the hosepipe & accidentally on purpose watered the the neighbours and said fire,

People who sit in their garden with a fire pit on a hot evening, hours after being told not to are t*ats. Even without the warning, neighbours have windows open. Some people just only think of themselves.

Why anyone would light a fire in these hot dry conditions is beyond me, absolute idiot.
