Omg? First use of the government phone alerts, i think??

Sorry to read this. I hope he’s ok. They’re going an amazing job in such tough times.

People's homes have burned, there is serious risk of life-threatening fires. This is precisely what the system is intended for - to tell everyone what they need to do.

We had weather one elsewhere which was not great at 4am (louder than this one as well) , but great because it allowed people to get cars from underground carparks before they ended up owning submarines instead....

I imagine that the fire services across the country are exhausted, even with mutual aid from other areas, and are running out of resources to deal with any more fires. And then there’s water resources too.

Not the biggest fan of government over reach but no problem with this - it's just about the most sensible use of technology I can think of really.

Narrowly missed getting caught up in the A31 madness on Sunday as we took the back roads coming back from a festival. That's still ongoing....

My relative was at Rustic Stomp and involved with clearing the campsite that went up a couple of weeks ago, flames were about 30 feet high and they said it scared him and his friends shitless, and they're not overly sensitive types.

So yeah, given how quickly these things can get out of hand, prevention and information is fine by me.

I think that the timing is because it is slightly cool so families might go out this weekend and have barbecues. In England and Wales 18-year-olds have just had their exam results and maybe going out camping or having parties. They may also be travelling to other areas so even if there isn’t high risk of fire where they live it may be where they’re camping.

I’ll keep them on unless they hey become particularly regular.

One of my DC is a doctor A local hospital is swamped with injured people, including some firemen, from the fires. Their A&E department are very worried.

If the drunk underneath me did this the fucker would get rehoused before me and DH too cos hes "vulnerable"

I was in a restaurant and everyone’s phone went of it went silent for a minute then everyone just carried on. Was very surreal

I have alerts switched off.

I was responding to a ridiculous reaction to an alarm lasting a few seconds but if that person would prefer their house to catch fire...

I don’t know why but I got the same emergency alert 3 times in the last hour. Bit excessive!

It’s okay Rizzz, still not had it but my carer got the alert and checked I was okay.

That's just a glitch of some type rather than an intentional repeat.

We have had a wildfire next to my house. They are constant in the area. I am in the middle of parched fields. I need to know when it's time to go, not just information about bbqs.

The dramatic reactions are embarrassing with people trying to outperform one another.

I wonder if all this jumping/shaking/crying/heart attacks/shitting oneself is being posted on male dominated forums.

The embarrassing posts are from those trying to be so cool they've turned theirs off. I'm not scared or shaking, I wasn't planning to have a barbecue in a field snyway but its not just about me.

I don’t think people should disable emergency alarms, but I am very sensitive to hearing them. The moment I hear one, my brain tells me nuclear armageddon before anything else. Doesn’t help that there is a lot of tension worldwide.
