Lindsay Clancy was let down

For those of you who may not know, Lindsay Clancy is an American mother who killed her three children (all under age 5) then tried to commit suicide by throwing herself out of a window, and is now wheelchair bound as a result. Her defence is she was in the throws of post natal psychosis.

You can watch the full trial on Court TV. The trial is ongoing now.

She was totally let down by the system, the doctors, maybe even her husband. I’ve never watched a full trial and been so appalled at what I am seeing and hearing. Kevin Reddington her lawyer needs an award.

It is interesting to me because I have a close relative who I’ve cared for for over a decade who is regularly in psychosis. The lack of understanding of psychosis generally is wild. I My relative can slip in and out of psychosis on a minute by minute basis some days.

I really hope Lindsay’s defence lawyer gets the best outcome for her even though her life is completely ruined whatever the outcome of the trial.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories but I'm actually starting to wonder if she did it at all. The husband is quite suspicious in what he says and has contradicted himself on a few occasions now.

allthingsinmoderation · 14/08/2026 12:25

This is a tragic case. Those poor little children!
I think there is no doubt that Lindsay Clancy was a severely mentally ill woman, who was over medicated and under supervised by Drs.
I know the trial is about wether she was of sound mind when she killed the children or not rather than wether she killed them, but i cant help wondering why the only evidence that she killed the children is that this clearly ill woman said she did. Is that reliable ?

BonaBona · 14/08/2026 15:34

Lindsay is very ill. It's sad. but legally I would have to say she knew what she was doing and carried on. She didn't hear voices, her lawyers told her to say that she did. LC refused inpatient care and told her husband she was ok with the kids when he put it to her that she might not be. She carried on trying to be Miss Perfect and control everything. The support was there for her to ask for a break and she didn't take it. And she wanted a 4th child! So unrealistic. She wasn't all there upstairs, but she wasn't legally insane. So guilty is the verdict for me.

The thing is you can’t say she was not insane. Nothing you’ve said here is anything but your opinion. People in psychosis can act rationally one minute, and irrationally the next. It’s the lack of real understanding of psychosis that is the problem here.

You can’t say she is innocent because of her lack of criminal responsibility either. Thats for the court to decide. A lot of people are projecting and giving their opinion.

No but there is ‘reasonable doubt’ which is what it all hinges on

Just saying if I don't believe she had diminished capacity. She knew. If I were on the jury, I haven't seen any reasonable doubt that I could credit outside of the defence lawyer trying hard to create some.

What is the evidence that she knew please?

But the husband said that she told him that a man’s voice told her to do it and now was her last chance?

That's not a question. She did. It's an agreed fact.

MsKirby · 16/08/2026 06:53

Based on inconsistencies coming out, I don't think she did it. The husband is not coming across well at all.

Yes, convenient how the first time 'hearing voices' was mentioned was after the defence lawyer's doctor spoke to her. That's when she was lying the hospital bed having asked "Do I have a lawyer?". See, yes, she did it, yes it's terribly sad, and no I don't judge her because I can only begin to imagine that kind of stress. Legally, it comes down to if you believe she was not in control of her own mind when she did it. And I don't believe her there. All the evidence tells me she was at breaking point, but I've heard nothing about losing her mind completely. I know a bit from experiences about mental breakdown (unfortunately) and I'm afraid I just don't believe her, no matter what the shyster lawyer says in her defence.

But all this is crazy, if she did indeed do it, of course she was/is severely mentally ill, who would do that to their own children

I suppose there are lots of cases (eg Chris Watts) where people have killed their children and haven’t been mentally ill - ie wanting them gone, wanting a new life etc. You could argue that someone would have to be mentally unwell to even think that way but it’s not the same as being psychotic or having post natal mental illness.

Human memory is very fallible, and nobody expects to have to recall the detail what they thought at the time was going to be a banal trip to run errands, under pressure, and following severe trauma, almost three years later. I concede that he possibly wasn’t as engaged a parent as he could have been and probably found his wife’s mental health problems difficult to understand, and like all family members and friends of people who have committed suicide he no doubt lives with the wish that he’d done things differently or been able to predict what was going to happen.

Lori Vallow Daybell. Not legally insane, just wanted to run off with a new man.

Valeriekat · 19/08/2026 17:40

You do realise that the job of her defence is to put her in a good light and to plant the seed of reasonable doubt?

It’s so strange that her dna wasn’t on all murder weapons and he was happily married again within months of it!

I’m guessing you’re not watching the trial then? The amount of theories debunked just this week alone.

Hate how on here when a woman murders her children she gets sympathy. Women can be evil as well.
